To whom it may concern,…read more I am writing this review after having the pleasure of Mr. Cobbin representing me in two civil cases. I came to Mr. Cobbin late in the first civil case with a hearing scheduled within three days. He immediately went over the case, made calls to necessary individuals and court representatives. He stayed in close communication with me and appraised me of any changes or issues that arose. At the hearing he met with the plaintiff and then with me. He instructed me to be completely honest when queried by the Judge (i.e., going over likely dialogue scenarios). He assured me that everything would work out as he had intimated. He stated the ruling will most likely be one of two scenarios. Once the Judge ruled it was for the favorable scenario number two as he foretold. He did not stop at that point; as he still pursed various and sundry court filings that assisted in the true closing and dismissal of the case ex post facto. In the second case (dissolution of marriage) I served as the respondent. Mr. Cobbin picked this case up in media res as both parties were pro se litigants initially. Prior to that he had informally guided me on filings while I was pro se prior to me hiring him to take the case. His hiring was a fortuitus decision as the case, due to my counterpetition, became exponentially more difficult and complex. Mr. Cobbin would make it standard practice to meet with me periodically to go over case information/developments, strategize, and map out the direction we would move to bring the case to a final resolution. From initially taking on the case to the successful mediation it was apparent that Mr. Cobbin is an elite attorney practicing in Jacksonville. In both cases, he was open to my ideas and feedback. In summary, Mr. Cobbin possess a unique mixture of professionalism, knowledge, dedication, and a caring attitude. From the very first consultation, Kevin Cobbin made me feel heard, respected, and confident about my case. He explained every step in clear concise terms, kept me updated, and always responded quickly to my questions. His professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care for my situation made a stressful process so much easier. Thanks to his superior expertise, we achieved a better outcome than I ever expected. I highly recommend the practice of Kevin M. Cobbin Attorney at Law, P. L. to anyone in need of a dedicated and compassionate lawyer.

Sheppard, White, Kachergus & DeMaggio - Silent When I Needed Help Most…read more In March 2025, I experienced what I believe was a serious violation of my civil rights and personal freedom. As a 100% disabled, retired Air Force combat veteran, I came to Jacksonville seeking medical help for long-COVID. Instead, I was held for eight days--first at the Mayo Clinic ER, then at River Point Behavioral Health--despite not being a danger to myself or others. While I was being held involuntarily and illegally, I reached out to Sheppard, White, Kachergus & DeMaggio for legal help. I explained my situation in detail, hoping that a firm known for civil rights advocacy would step in or at least provide guidance. Unfortunately, they did not respond to my request while I was still in custody. I received no assistance, no referral, and no follow-up. I was deeply disappointed. At a time when I needed a civil rights attorney most, I felt completely abandoned. What I Experienced * My attempts to file a writ of habeas corpus--a fundamental legal protection--went nowhere. To my knowledge, the paperwork was never even submitted to the court as is required by law within 24 hours. * I was denied pain relief and sleep medication. * My phone access was cut off. * My wife, who was overseas caring for her dying mother, attempted to contact me repeatedly. Her emails and calls, she tells me, went unanswered for the entire seven-day period. As a disabled veteran, this experience was both frightening and disorienting, all while suffering from debilitating post-COVID syndrome and combat PTSD, NOT SUICIDALITY. What made it worse was the lack of legal advocacy at a time when I was vulnerable and isolated. A Larger Concern This experience made me question how the legal and medical systems in Jacksonville interact. From my perspective, institutions like the Mayo Clinic and River Point Behavioral Health appear to use involuntary holds in ways that are difficult to challenge--especially for out-of-state veterans like myself. And when lawyers decline to help, there is no path to justice. Shakespeare's words ring true today, even more so than in the 16th Century. To Veterans and Vulnerable Citizens: If you're expecting help from this law firm during a civil rights emergency, please be aware of my experience. I hope your outcome is different. Mine left me with more questions than answers, and a deep sense of abandonment by the legal system at a time of real need. Needless to say, that was my first and last time in Jacksonville. I live all the way out in NV so my hours are way different than Florida, and I work all hours of the day with barely any chance to contact anyone. I contacted this place because on their Google information it says open 24 hours, and on there website it says in big bold letters at the top "Call us anytime." not call us anytime as long as it's an emergency. I apologize that I didn't realize what time it was out there in Florida, but that is absolutely no reason to be extremely rude to me, and treat me like crap. If you don't want to help me just inform me that this number is an emergency line only, and put that on your website. I would have been more than glad to call back in the morning, if I ended up getting the chance. Now, you just lost a potential client for being so rude and offhanded. Maybe you should learn some customer service skills, or better yet since it is so difficult for people to learn to be nice, just reword your website. And apparently your office hours on here aren't correct either. I guess I won't be able to find out for myself if those google reviews are true or not.
