Today I went in for a money order and while I was grabbing a couple things from the deli area, a lady from behind the counter, called out to make sure that I didn't need any assistance. I can't remember ever having a bad time at Publix. This Homewood location is in a shopping center with a few other businesses, so it's easy to knock out multiple errands at once. The staff is friendly and the store is typically clean despite the constant influx if customers. I'm a fan of Publix's bogo deals, hot food bar, and sushi section; I love trying something new each visit. Their fruits are also a fav, I appreciate the pre packaged variety. Their pre-made sandwiches are great for a grab and go snack, I also like to take them on my hiking trips. My sorority sisters helped me discover "pub subs" in undergrad and they're still an easy choice for lunch or dinner when I'm feeling lazy. Glad to have this place in my area! read more

So I go back and forth on this. I like Publix. I like their BOGO deals. This store is always clean and stocked well. However- my concern is the deli and it's workers. Here lately it has gone way downhill. I was even there one day to pick up a preordered sub. I was there with multiple people waiting and the manager told us "we'd just have to wait and I don't know when I'm getting to your sandwiches". Mine had been placed two hours prior. It is slow, the workers are often rude, and the wait is always long. I also got food poisoning from a wrap I purchased Friday afternoon so I'll definitely be taking a break from it for awhile. read more

This location is nice and orderly. I was in the area so I decided to run in to pick up a few things. The meat department was well stocked. I had been wanting a steak so I was in deep thought on which cut of beef to buy. Gregg was there to my rescue! With his help I decided on the chuck eye cut and he even put some seasoning on it for me. Nice gesture. I was pleased with my selection. I hadn't visited this Publix location in a number of years. Publix has incredible customer service, great BOGO (buy one, get one free) deals and we cannot forget their subs, affectionately called Pub Subs. Publix is NEVER a let down. Decided to stop in and get a subs for dinner and they had their ultimate sub on sale, which is one of my favorites! The ultimate consists of turkey, ham, and roast beef, with your choice of fresh toppings. They have a lot of toppings to choose from, even if you don't see them, they have a list and they can grab any ingredients from within the store. Rhonda who works in the delinks very patient and precise with her sandwich making. She told me she makes the subs nice and neat just how she likes hers. I will not be shopping at the Publix on Greenspring's Hwy again, even though I live 7 minutes from there. The clientele is becoming quite different since they first opened. On several occasions I have been treated totally unacceptable from shoppers and the management. This one was the straw that broke the camel's back. I was waiting near the seafood counter to get some sushi, well a woman and her two daughters decided to camp out there, not waiting on fresh seafood. So, I waited several minutes for them to leave, still no evidence they were going to move. Oh, by the way her teenage daughter was dancing, like she was on a audition. So, I politely went around them and grabbed my sushi. The mother starts saying in a raised drama voice that I shoved her daughter which I did not. She kept on with the drama, so I asked the seafood clerk to get the manager so we could view the video, she starts in a raised voice NO WE GOOD, NO WE GOOD. The meat manager steps out from the back and the seafood clerk pointed him out to me. So, as I am headed to talk to him, she runs down and starts all of her drama. When I got down there, I explained the situation and that I would like to review the video, this woman is claiming I shoved her daughter. She starts in again NO WE GOOD NO WE GOOD. IMO she did not want to be caught in a lie. The meat manger told me I just need to finish my shopping and leave, all the while he is letting her in a raise voice and drama that I shoved her daughter. Both of them were the same race go figure. This store is going down the drain, like most of the businesses in Homewood Al It is a shame you cannot shop in your own neighborhood. read more

Food safety warning. We went to Publix on Green Springs last night and picked up Argentinian Red shrimp. When I unwrapped them tonight, they felt slimy and when cooked, they reeked of ammonia which is a telltale sign of bad shrimp. We took the receipt and a few of the spoiled shrimp back to Publix to get them replaced. The person in seafood assured us that he was giving us shrimp from a different batch but when we got home. it was the same story; the shrimp were off. We've never had problems with seafood from Publix before but they are clearly selling some spoiled product. Check it before you eat it. read more

Never seen people move so slow and with unfriendly attitudes in my life in the deli dept today. Deli was slow! no teamwork. The line got long because there was no management controlling the flow. Only one lady ahead and I waited 30min finally I left. Took her almost 30min to make 5 sandwiches for one customer. Her co workers just watched her and the line grow. I'm vegan and I couldn't find a restaurant offering vegan hotdogs, but I still wanted to eat a hotdog! So I decided to go to my local Publix and pick up some, along with standard (and some... non-standard) hotdog toppings. Publix is my favorite grocery store, and I was unsurprised by the excellent atmosphere on this visit. My friend and I went together, seeking to explore the store with a perspective of "store critic." Our findings were almost entirely positive. COVID-19 precautions were more than adequate; directions were marked on each isle for traffic flow, hand sanitizer was readily available, and everyone (employee and shopper) was wearing a mask. The store was very clean, and all of the merchandise/produce was well-organized and looked fresh. We had little trouble locating the items we wanted, and even found some neat things while perusing (Clamato juice??? Horrifying.) I, being the more sensible member of our friendship, cooked and ate my hotdog according to the package instructions (grilled- not microwaved.) I toasted my bun, and topped the dog with sauerkraut and stone-ground mustard. It was so good I made another! The second was Chicago-style with relish, mustard, tomatoes, and onions. Neither dog had the "vegan" vibe I expected them too, but they still maintained the processed goodness of a regular hotdog. The toppings (also bought at Publix) were excellent too. My friend is a monster, so he added baby sprouts, black bean hummus, and chocolate chips to his microwaved dog, wrapping it in a toasted tortilla bun. Other than recording the event, I played no part in that monstrosity. However, I will note that he enjoyed the hummus and chocolate chips. He described the sprouts as "too vegetal" and said they overwhelmed the hotdog's doggy flavor. Overall, my experience with the Publix superstore, employees, and all of the groceries I purchased was fantastic. I can't imagine going to a Walmart or Winn-Dixie and being as satisfied. Trader Joe's, Fresh Market, and Whole Foods are comparable in quality of food and service, but typically with higher prices. My hotdogs were delicious. I would definitely come to this Publix again. I asked april if i was going to be acknowledged any time soon and she pointed me towards nikki because she was busy while nikki walked around doing a whole bunch of nothing. If it says "10 Items or Less" on the register lane, they won't check you out in that lane. That's fine, since I stop, occasionally, to grab a quick lunch. But it seems, if you are wearing a "Shipt" shirt, you are allowed to check out with a full grocery cart, because "they are on a tight time schedule, and the regular lanes are busy". Really? I was in this location on yesterday and I purchased the chocolate romeo. The bakery associate was very helpful. She was able to give me every detail which made me more curious about trying it. So I did purchase the dessert which was delicious. So today I went to purchase another one but this group of associates totally ignored me. I stood waiting for someone to assist me. I still cannot manage to say the name without adding on a fancy French accent....Publie, Publuis, Public, Publix...no matter the pronunciation, just know this is a top notch grocery store! This was my first time in Alabama and I couldn't find a store I recognized (no Vons, Trader Joe's, Ralph's) so I search long and hard for a grocer via Yelp and Google and ended up at this treasure. It's everything your heart desires at a great price! The produce was fresh and I was even surprised to see a large selection of ripe avocadoes. The aisles were clean and customer service was top notch. Above all else....let me pause for dramatic effect.......that rotisserie chicken is pure flames. I grabbed the last one and soon found out by some Bama natives that this chicken is one of the best around town. It was so juicy and packed with flavor! I mean it fell off the bone with ease as I chopped it up for some chicken tacos. I mean good gracious why can't there be a Publie in Los Angeles! One of my favorite Publix locations. They have just remodeled it recently and I was actually very surprised. They have extended the deli section and added the salad bar. I unloaded groceries for the customer behind me while the same cashier that wouldn't ring me up just stood there like a bump on a log. The lady was clearly injured and needed help. For starters, I'm glad Publix supermarket chose to do business with Alabama. The staff is always friendly, and the products never leave me unhappy. The stores are always clean and well lit and seldom do I have to wait in long lines. No regarding this Publix location, it's ideally located right off Greenspring and ideal for the Homewood, Birmingham and even Hoover crowd. If I had one complaint, it would be that they don't have a store downtown, but rumors have it that they soon will. To me, good food, great location and wonderful staff is what makes a good grocery stores. I hope that you all visit this great location and I look forward to many more visits. read more

For the most part I always like their selections of seafood etc. Yes, I know it was close to closing but we still expect the same customer service as when we come in during the day. Our cashier (Ashley C) was paying another cashier for her own items and was not paying attention to my card payment when she needed to input on her end. Then once my payment was complete she told me to have a good night and went back to cursing and paying for her things. In which time she never bagged my things and STILL NEVER bagged my things. This Publix is generally pretty decent, with a wide variety of items and the weekly sales are handy. However, that their sandwich station, hot foods, and seafood hours are a bit inconsistent/unpredictable, since if there aren't too many people in the store after 8pm they'll start closing early. Also why does Publix close at 10pm in general? My main pet peeve though is that they start removing fresh bread from the bakery section after 8pm. Happen to be craving a baguette at 9? Fuggedaboudit. Sometimes if you catch them while they are dumping bread into a shopping cart, they'll fish you a loaf out of the pile, but I was digging through the cart the other day and some bakery lady came out and yelled at me because "Sir!!! They're expired! You can't buy that!" even though the bread had been baked in the last 24 hours...Also even stale bread is useful for things like stuffing and bread crumbs and batter and what have you, so I don't get this. I mean if "they can't sell it" what do they do with a shopping cart full of bread? read more

IN A PINCH! I am starting to really enjoy Publix "on the go". When I am on vacay and can't find a decent place to eat, I can always count on Publix. Today, I had a difficult time locating an appropriate breakfast restaurant so I Yelped the nearest Publix and ended up at this location. It was early afternoon and they had run out of wings. However they prepared a fresh order while I shopped. I also purchased a serving of the kale, turkey sausage and vegetable soup. It was delicious and not salty at all. I want to take this oppritunity to give kudos to the Publix Deli located in Edgemont Plaza in Homewood, Alabama. I needed a chicken finger tray for an office Christmas party on 12/22 and contacted the deli at this location several times in the week prior to that day. The associates I spoke with on different occasions were not helpful and did not offer any solutions for my dilemma. I have always good experiences with this location and had helpful associates, thus, I decided to stop in on 12/22 and make one last effort to see if the deli had anything on hand. When I arrived, I asked the associate what time they would put food on the hot bar because I needed several pieces of chicken for that day. One of the associates I spoke with made my request seem odd and difficult. But Paula overhead my request and asked me what time I needed the chicken by. When I told her I needs the chicken that day she said "oh that's not a problem! Give me about 20 minutes." She took the steps to make the order for me right then; this was so helpful. I know that the delis are busy during the holiday season and some workers are tired and not willing to help. But Paula was super helpful; she helped to remove the panic I had and made my dilemma not seem so bad. I believe that associates like Paula are what make this Publix great! read more

This location is conveniently located off of Green Springs for Homewood residents or anyone passing by. There are lots of options around, but this one is the best. Everyone at this Publix location are so friendly! We made the trip here after visiting 3 other stores looking for a bundt cake pan and a carrier for the cakes. We finally found the pan and it was only 9 dollars which was awesome. But we still couldn't find something to carry the cakes in. We thought it wouldn't hurt to ask the bakery if they could help us out with one of their plastic cake holders. Maria was so kind and gave us two for the cakes. Total life saver!!! I've been here a couple of times and every experience has been pretty good. The staff has usually been helpful and polite. The store is clean & organized, just well kempt in general. The produce in particular seems to always be super oragnized which is a major plus for me since thats where I spend most of my time. This review is pretty much based solely of the staff and the organization of the produce. Overall the store is more along the line of 3 stars in terms of products. I've shopped for other things and they didn't have what I was looking for or I knew I could get a better brand/price somewhere else. read more

Who doesn't love publix? In addition to the amazing cakes and fried chicken..The people at the deli here are always very sweet. Usually the ladies in the bakery department are sweet as well and all of the staff on the floor are always willing to drop what they're doing and help you. I left yesterday without my bag and when I called around an hour later they told me that when they realized I'd left it they put it in the cooler to save for me! Sure enough when I went back to pick it up they had it tied up in a bag and everything still cold and all together. They offered for me to exchange the items as well if I needed to. I always feel like publix is a place where I never feel questioned or the need to defend myself in any situation which is nice. The only reason I took off a star is because I feel like their produce department is hit or miss-- maybe that is simply because they are so popular that a lot of items run out quickly but it can be frustrating when it happens! Also I feel like they don't carry many non staple produce items which can be limiting at times as well but overall this location is very clean and typically stocked with everything you'd need! read more
