The food is very typical of an italian eatery - pizzas, pastas and everything in between. The pizza is rather beautiful ... not on par with say Mario's or Rosso Pommodoro .. but great none the less - a special shout out goes to the chef who made the bruschetta into a pizza for us. The pastas ... well, it seems this place may have a slight reputation for their pastas. All 6 of us ordered a pasta dish as a main and of all the dishes ordered, the Pappardelle pork/veal ragu and the Pappardelle Pescatore (a tomato based seafood dish) were the 2 standout mains. Service here is slow but hey, when in Rome right? Hows that saying go?? Dolce far niente - pleasantly doing nothing.. and that's certainly what it's like here, but see this is what I love. You can sit here for HOURS talking and laughing and nibbling on the food that is still on the table because as Italians, you don't clear the table unless asked. Both times that we have come here, they have had large groups celebrating - one was a christening and the other a birthday, so this restaurant clearly caters for groups. Overall, a nice restaurant with decent food that caters for all and far from offends.

The pastas are nice, the pizzas OK, the service lousy and waitstaff can be very brusque. I've also noticed that the staff don't deal well with large functions. Glasses are forgotten, plates not changed, have to ask for clean serviettes, grated cheese, water etc. Mario's at Croydon has very good pastas & better pizzas, so they don't have a monopoly. Of course the venue is a lot better at Pappardelle. Am I being critical? No more than how I critique other places. If you are in the restaurant business good food is just one criteria, friendly and enthusiastic staff who are eager to please & interact will make your clients come back again & again. It is a little closer to the American style as the base is thicker than a traditional Italian pizza, but it is what it is, and as pizzas go, this is a very satisfying pizza. They use real meat in their ingredients and the quality is always there. The pizzas can be ordered in plenty of sizes but I always go for the biggest size. Yes the owners and workers can be a little "old school", as in they are probably immigrants that came to Australia in the 1950'-1960's, but that is half the appeal to the place. It is made and cooked in a way that reminds you of perfect home cooking. Their menu range is huge and they have incorporated other no so traditional pizza flavours. Eg:Indian, Asian, Mexican flavours into their pizzas. It doesn't really matter what you order though, for years this place has been producing top notch pizzas that you end up wanting to try as many flavours as possible. I was introduced to Bexley pizza at a friends house when they ordered take away. I had no expectation for takeaway pizza as they always taste a little worse than eating it fresh from the oven, but their takeaway is as good as eating it in the restaurant. The ice cream here is made with the highest quality ingredients. In fact, they even sell the Jersey milk at the shop. My son swears it's the best milk he's ever had in his life (and this from the boy who grew up drinking organic, bottled milk back in Northern CA... so he knows what he is talking about). The have a small(ish) selection of ice creams, written by hand on a sheet each day. When they run out of a flavor, they run out, but I can always find another ice cream to try. My favorite is the Creme Brulee, but I haven't had anything here yet that I did not love. It is creamy and made by hand, and the boys that run this place are really, really nice.
