Overall this is a bare bones, generic training for corporate folks who need to up their skills in certain software suites (advanced Excel skills for instance). They provide the computer, the instructor and some coffee/water/pretzels. The class is all day (8:30 am call time in my case). The instructor was good. The class was varying in skill level (some people really should have been in more intro classes) but that didn't really deter from the pace. He stuck to the material which is good, but I would have preferred more time spent on things like shortcuts and tricks. Overall, this was a good class that I think is worth the time if you need to quickly gain some speed on software for work.

While volunteering I was able to get a tour of the facility to see what they'd offer to the students training there. I then was able to refer a client from my day job there who completed the training and returned to work able to maintain his lodging. They placed him with an employer that offer him competitive wages. If your interested in returning to work and need to brush up on a trade or even computer skills I recommend this place.

It's true this place helps people with disadvantages find work in the community. However, when I was there as a participant in 2017, there were only 3 or 4 job developers and too many participants per job developer. Because of this, it was sometimes a little difficult to get help from my job developer, as she was so busy helping other participants. One time she said she would help me with a cover letter for a job application but did not get to my cover letter before the job closed a few weeks later. Also, this place does not like for participants to take days off to take care of things like family emergencies. For example, my aunt passed away unexpectedly and I needed to go out of town for a few days for the memorial service. I was given a hard time for asking to take one and a half days off so I could get to my aunt's service. My job developer made a big deal about me needing to take time off, as if it were an unforgivable sin to have a life outside of work. It seemed a little ridiculous to me.

It seems like they have regular business hours, so no weekend or evening options. Overall, their availability was really wide and I was able to get a time and day that worked for me. There was ample parking and the main entrance is hard to see from the front - it's at the right wing of the back side of the building. When I came in, I stood by an empty receptionist desk and after a couple of minutes, a student asked what I was here for and I explained that I had an appointment. He told me to take a seat and I waited for about 15 minutes until what looked like the owner came in and I took the initiative to repeat that I was here for a hair appointment. She ushered me into the salon area and a student promptly started on my hair. The student was very detailed and had a good balance of taking client considerations for the procured hairstyle in addition to their personal input of what would be the most visually-appealing based on my headframe. The haircut service itself took about 50 minutes, including a blow dry. It was a pretty basic trim but I think the simple look matched what I was envisioning. Checkout appeared to be cash-only. Luckily I had the cash on hand, because when I tried to pull out my credit card, the owner had let me know then that she only took cash. I can't find any official communications outside of their Facebook page, so it would be nice if their appointment and checkout guidelines were more apparent. In terms of the atmosphere, it feels very home-like, like a home away from home. All of the students and staff spoke Vietnamese and it seemed like the fluency ranged from beginner to conversational English, so I didn't experience any language barriers. There's lo-fi music playing in the background and there were two kids roaming around the salon area. Overall, I feel like this experience was a learning curve for me. I could see myself going here again, but maybe after they are able to provide more structure to the experience.

This was the biggest thorn in my side until I stumbled upon Marlo and Scott's business via an email referral. After our first class with them I asked if they would be interested in being our primary CPR and first aid certification provider. An Ounce of Prevention and their employees are true professionals; they are always early, communicate very well when trying to schedule the class, they have been great at accommodating our needs on short notice and can cater to all levels of experience with CPR and first aid. The classes themselves were a great balance of content, hands one learning, stories and Q&A. They created a personable atmosphere where you feel like you can ask questions and allow a lot of hands on time with the CPR dummies. We have been working with them for around 3 years now and have always been satisfied with their services. I would recommend them to anyone looking for CPR and First Aid certifications.
