What sets the golf course in Whitford apart from other courses is the greenery and the trees. This course is fun to play, and offers the golfer a few good risk versus reward holes, and should allow you a good score if you can keep the ball on the straight and narrow. I can recommend sacrificing distance for accuracy, so stay on the fairways, and score low. Worst case scenario; drown your sorrows at the very adequate 19th.

I like to appreciate the surrounding environment when enjoying a round of golf and the Whitford course greatly assists in doing so. It is a tricky course, with the long holes particularly long, and the short holes requiring a lot of skill to navigate. The scenery continues to play a part here also, with trees lining most fairways. There is a fantastic clubhouse overlooking the course for a beer on the 19th hole. The drive out to the course is relatively straightforward, but just ensure you look out for the gate for the long drive up to the clubhouse - which can become seasonally hidden by the lively plant growth.

First, Titirangi Golf Club would really rather you play somewhere else. This is evidenced by the 225 dollar green fee they demand. Gulf Harbour, Remeuera Golf Club, Muriwai Golf Club and Windross Farms are far better courses and are half the price. Only one explanation: Titirangi doesn't want or need you but If you have 225 dollars to throw away, they will take it. The course is not that bad but neither is it note worthy. Remuera and Windross Farms are design masterpieces not far from Auckland City. If you want to venture out some forty five minutes away, Muriwai Golf Club on the west coast and Gulf Harbour on the east coast demonstrate New Zealand's nautical appeal. Both tracks are exceptional layouts with majestic views of the Tasman and Hauraki Gulf respectively. Go play!

I'm not a member, so my voice won't be heard, but I'll be quietly upset anyway. I played Manukau during a recent golf day, and I found it to be a good parklands course, challenging and rewarding. The club house is one of the better ones you'll find in Auckland, and there is a good driving range and pro shop. I'll have to make a plan to give the course a last good go before the club moves down to the cow paddocks. I love the idea of a new golf course, but it is sad to see an old one go, as it can never be replaced, and houses could easily have been built in other areas.

Playing golf in the middle of a drought is always going to be interesting and we never thought that…read morethe course would be quite as affected as it was. I had previously visited Onewhero Golf Club in the middle of last year and was a great course, especially with its greenery in a particularly rural setting. Google Maps had set us off course, landing us in Pukekohe and the club's old address decades ago. We managed to find our way there via the back streets of rural South Auckland. During the weekend's round the course had visibly taken a hammering. The fairways were burnt off, making for a very advantageous roll on if the tee off was accurately hit - it was like playing on hard dirt. The greens were in great nick though, however were deceptively slow after adjusting to the dryness of the rest of the course. It is relatively cheap for a round ($25 for affiliate for 18 holes) and I would suggest a cart next time, especially after walking 18 holes in the heat of the day. The bar was ideal for afterwards, with pints a cheap $5, with all the country favourites on tap - as well as a pool table, only accepting old 50c coins.
