The worst practice and doctor. This arrogant doctor and his colleagues have to be the worst bunch of pulmonologists under one roof. I am glad I left this money grabbing practice of theives who absolutely have very little or no compassion whatsoever for the paying patient! This Scoopo character who never took my complaints serious should be scooped up by the internal review board and NJ state medical board. He was the worst, as were a few of his colleagues I saw on a few occasions. They ALL have questionable and terrible reviews. Stay away from this group practice, PULMONARY & ALLERGY ASSOCIATES and GROUP OF DOCTORS IN CEDAR KNOLLS NJ. Trust me you can find much better more competent bunch of doctors, especially in NYC & even Bergen County. I read some of the reviews for this place and surprised it rates so low. I been coming here pre covid and always found this place to be efficient with my appointment times, never no issues with parking or co pay. Dr Epstein always listens to anything I may experience and always had good suggestions if I am experiencing anything out of the usual. The staff is good and very friendly. Yet have I had any problems coming to this location. Sleep apnea is a scary thing & needs to be addressed, and so many think it is OK to not get it looked at when they are told they stop breathing while sleeping. Do not play with your health. I made an appointment with Dr. Matthew Daniel Epstein after having been diagnosed with mild sleep apnea. Check-in was a breeze, though I was asked to fill in three short paper forms. The nurse who took my vitals was pleasant and professional. I probably waited less than five minutes to see Dr. Epstein, who was personable and professional, asking questions about my medical history and explaining what my at-home sleep test showed. He answered all of my questions clearly and thoroughly and explained my options for treatment. (It was thankfully good news throughout.) Crooks. Billed me 18 months after my visit after my HSA expired. I called them and they said they understood and would waive the fee. A month later I received a bill from a debt collector. When you call the billing department, they disconnect you and drop the call. Avoid at all costs. read more

This is an excellent practice and is without a doubt the best in the area in terms of pulmonary and allergy care. My children have seen Dr. Oppenheimer and Dr. Gary Kohn and the care has been absolutely great with wonderful results. I see Dr. Capone for sleep apnea. I can confidently say that you will not likely find another doctor that is more knowledgeable and passionate about this disorder that Dr. Capone. These guys get an A+ read more

I have always experienced outstanding medical care at The Pulmonary and Allergy Associates in Cedar Knolls. I have been cared for by Dr. Daniel Markley who is just wonderful. Dr. Markley is highly educated in the field of pulmonary medicine and fellowship trained in the field of critical care medicine. I trust Dr. Markley completely with all of my pulmonary concerns and I have never questioned any of his recommendations to keep me well. In addition to Dr. Markley's superb medical training, he is a doctor who listens to his patients and welcomes their questions assuring successful medical outcomes for the patient. Dr. Markley is warm, caring and has a delightful sense of humor. His medical staff and office staff have all been lovely to me and the last time I called with a concern, one of the medical team members stated to me, "We are here for you." Not only was that lovely to hear, but it is a positive affirmation which potentially can affect healing within a patient. I have two physicians in my family and I brag to them about Dr. Markley. I am so grateful to Dr. Daniel Markley for being such a terrific physician and helping me when I was very ill in Morristown Hospital with pneumonia. Went here from recommendation from other doctors. Doctors are fine but the receptionist are awful. I had problems getting a prescription as a new patient after I had seen the Dr. I waited 2 hrs at the pharmacy for them to rectify the situation and got attitude from one of the office managers on the phone. The people I spoke to were polite but they kept handing me off to other people. In one conversation I spoke with 4 different people and told them the same story. Thats a bit ridiculous if you ask me. I think their downfall is the size of their practice. Its too big with too many doctors and not enough trained staffing behind them. I was a new patient but not any more,.... I will definitely be taking my business someplace else. Not a great first impression. read more

Evidently these doctors and their staff were trained in Communist Russia or China...I had seen Dr. Graffino two years ago and she conducted allergy testing on me. I had no issues with her but I can't say I loved her either. She was run of the mill. Since then my allergies have worsened so the other day I called up to make an appointment with Dr. Oppenheimer. Since I wasn't thrilled with Dr. Graffino and she specializes in pediatrics, I thought I would try a different doctor that specializes in what I am suffering from. When I called the office I was told my the receptionist that it had been three years since I was in so I was now considered a "new patient." I tried to explain that it had not been three years, it was two, but the receptionist argued with me, was hard to understand and rude. So instead of arguing, I just said "fine, I'm a new patient." She set up my appointment for me with Dr. Oppenheimer for a month away. Ten minutes later my phone rings and it's the same receptionist. She tells me she made a "terrible mistake" and that today was her first day on her own. She admits that it hadn't been three years since I was there last and that she can make an apppointment for me with Dr. Graffino. I said I wanted to see Dr. Oppenheimer since he specializes in more of what I am suffering from. She proceeds to tell me that I am not allowed to see any other doctor once I have seen one doctor in the practice already. Once I have seen one doctor, I am never allowed to see another doctor in the practice and that Dr. Graffino and Dr. Oppenheimer don't "share patients." At this point I was so frustrated I told her I think I'll go to another practice. She said "hold on let me speak to my manager." When she came back a few seconds later she said, "ok I have canceled your appointment for November 20th." So this practice would rather lose my regular business than have me go to another doctor within the same practice. I have never in my life experienced such horrible customer service. It is insane to me that this practice can tell me which doctors I can and cannot see. That should be up to me, not them. I have heard wonderful things about the doctors in this practice but I will never give them my business nor trust my health to doctors that can't "share." read more

The doctors are all fine, but like others have said, the front end staff and billing department are AWFUL. Appointment was in January, insurance was promptly billed. I however was NOT billed, even after calling to ask, nothing. And now in March they have very "kindly" submitted my account to collections. Really? REALLY!?!? ...never again. read more

While I agree the front-end staff needs some training in polite and professional practice, I really like Dr. Fessler and am willing to put up with the front office to see her. She takes the necessary time and listens to the whole issue without trying to be dismissive, like a lot of doctors do. She reallly cares. read more

The phone system, wait time is worse than horrible! I am currently on hold and there are 8 people ahead of me. If this was the 1st time it happened it would be understandable perhaps but it happens EVERY time I call. The last time I called I was on queue for my entire break period 35+ minutes and NO ONE had answered!!I had to hang up only to call back yet another day?? Apparently from the other comments I am not alone in my critique. I guess they can't hire enough staff??? Extremely unprofessional manner of handling incoming calls. read more

I've been a customer for 30 years, but on my recent visit they had me go into a separate room in their office for my breathing test. Unfortunately this other room was considered a hospital visit and I was billed $1,450 which was under my hospitalization deductible. So I ended up paying $1,500 for a rescue inhaler that I only very rarely need (and I explained this when I made the appointment and when I met the doctor). I wrote a letter to the two doctors that I have seen there and received no response (other than threatening collection calls). AVOID!!! read more

They ran the operation more like a car dealer than a doctors office. They sold me a lemon cpap machine, which a sorts of noises during the night ,which disturbed my family and the incompetent technician could not find the the problem. The nasty office manager Kelly would not help me. Worse yet, the doctor, Fredrick Scoupa was even nasty. He claimed that if it just bothered my family they should wear ear plugs. All in a all the Dr. was making decisions by was good for him financially. He could care less what was medically necessary. read more

The practice is so large that they've become extremely disorganized. I called early this morning (7:00am) and was prompted to the live service. I spoke to a person named Diana, explained the problem was for my mother, who was congested, having trouble breathing at times, couldn't clear her throat (she has asthma and was hospitalized last year after having same issues). The service said the office opens at 8:30am and would forward the message to them, who would then call me. It's now 9:30am and no call. So I call- I speak to the receptionist, she tells me that the office is not aware of the call from the service earlier in the morning- she says she can't go into the system either to retrieve the message,AND that her supervisor is not in yet. She also indicates that Dr. Scoopo is on vacation this week, and no other dr. is available today, would I mind going to the Summit office (never been there, don't know any of the doctors...)? I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE LACK OF URGENCY THESE HUGE PRACTICES HAVE. There are at least 5 doctors at this location, AND NO ONE IS AVAILABLE TO SEE AN EDLERLY PERSON, WHO HAS BEEN TO THE OFFICE REGULARLY TO HAVE HER ASTHMA TREATED!!! THE RECEPTIONISTS ARE ALWAYS COMPLACENT - I ask the receptionist why is it that an office with so many drs. can't find time to squeeze in an potentially urgent situation. She tells me she would need to ask the drs. if they can see my mom... unbelievable... a front desk person who can't make this decision without consul from the doctors, what are they there for then??? IT'S 10:30AM AND AM STILL WAITING FROM THE OFFICE. ADDITIONALLY, NO ONE HAS THOUGHT IT IMPORTANT TO ADDRESS THE FIRST ISSUE- WHY WAS THE MESSAGE FROM THE LIVE SERVICE NEVER ADDRESSED THIS MORNING WITH A CALLBACK? This is the very reason why people end up in the emergency room- because their own physicians either can't or won't see them when necessary, leaving people with few to no other options in order to receive medical care. read more

I went to see Dr. Donatella B. Graffino due to an itchy rash that I found all over my body. She prescribed me medication and both wrote me a note and verbally informed me to take a certain amount every day. However, upon picking up the prescription at my pharmacy, the dosage on the bottle was half the recommended dosage that Dr. Graffino advised me to take. Confused of which I should follow, I contacted the office and left a message describing my situation. A nurse called me back and informed me she would clarify with Dr. Graffino and would contact me as soon as possible. I waited a few hours and, having not heard back, I called the office again, to which I discover that the nurse has left work for the rest of the day. Because it was urgent that I take the medication, I took the dosage that Dr. Graffino informed me of. The next morning, I called the office again and left another message. There was still no response for several hours, so I called for the fourth time in two days. Finally, I was put in contact with a different nurse who, instead of verifying with Dr. Graffino, simply checked her computer and informed me to take the dosage that was on file. The dosage on file is the same as the pharmacy; however, it is different than the dosage that Dr. Graffino both wrote down and verbally told me. I informed the nurse that because I took the dosage that Dr. Graffino initially advised, which is double the recommended dosage, I was now short a couple tablets. The nurse said that she will check with Dr. Graffino and see if she would prescribe a couple more tablets to replace the tablets that I was now short of. It has now been four days and I still have not heard back. The nurses in this office are clearly irresponsible. Furthermore, out of all the times I have visited doctors, this is the very first time in which the verbally communicated dosage differs from the recommended dosage. read more

I had a terrible experience at this office this past week. I had made an appt. online for Dr. Fessler. I walked in ahead of my appt. time (3:15) and received some odd looks when I said I had an appt. with Dr. Fessler. They said I wasn't in the system and I showed them the multiple confirmations that I had received for the appt. When I said I'd made the appt. online they said they'd been having trouble with the system. I said it was ok, could they fit me in. They told me nope. Dr. Fessler was out of the office and her next available appt. wasn't for a 1 1/2 weeks. I asked if another doctor could fit me in since I'd had a confirmed appt. They said no, without ever even looking at another physician's schedule. Not once did I ever hear an apology for the mistake with THEIR system. Not once did they even try to find an appointment for me sooner since again, it was a mistake on their end. I was standing there, literally begging to be seen by anyone and the only thing they could say was 'No'. There was not even the slightest effort to correct the mistake. No empathy, no compassion, not even the least bit solution or patient oriented. Not even an apology for something that was clearly the fault of their system & office. I understand mistakes happen, but the manner in which they addressed the mistake showed their character and how little they actually care about a patients. I don't know how the physicians are, they may be great but the callousness of their staff makes it clear where the values of the practice lie. read more
