It consists of a retail store, a cafe (The Cutting Table) and a fashion school. The project began in 2009 when community members and media and design professionals came together to discover how they could use fashion as a vehicle for positive social change. The Social Studio was born and today also hosts pop-up shops, online shopping, manufacturing services for other designers, and a printing studio. The designers here frequently use hand dyeing techniques and all materials used are ethically produced using only reclaimed or up-cycled materials and all collections are the result of collaboration between the designers. Next time you go on a shopping spree, make sure you put this store on your shopping list. It's retail therapy like no other.

There are some bizarre head to toe costumes ranging between $55-$70 for a weekend hire or cheaper DIY costume options. There are plastic masks that start at $4 or childrens packet costumes around $40. Its a good costume store in the way it encompasses different sides of the budget and levels of creative commitment, DIY or choose a costume package. The costumes are up to date as well, I saw a hilarious Pirates of the Caribbean costume (that pirate octopus head guy) as well as the classic costumes. Think The Beatles, hippy, vampire, muppet, Gumbi, Spongebob Squarepants. The list goes on.........and on..........and on.

Inside this delightful store is a treasure trove of restored vintage fashion in spectacular form and finish. Dorothy & Evelyn also carries vintage fashion for bubs and kids so if you're a fan of old-school cool, you have to check out the kids stuff. It also carries a unique collection of independent designer labels, so there's a good mix of contemporary and classic. On top of that, this store carries a large array of fashion accessories, with an emphasis on cute animals and graphic adorned pieces. Sole Devotion features shoes from 3 international designers: Camper (Spain), Trippen (Germany) and John Fluevog (Canada). Each shoe is beautifully made with quality materials and they all sit along little ledges up the wall of the store. Whether they are black and white brogues or vibrant orange clogs Sole Devotion have you covered. Just check out the different shoes and then flag down a sales assistant to help you out. There's a long cushioned bench in the middle of the store where you can have a seat, and even though the store can get very busy at times all the sales assistants are brilliant. Not only are they friendly, but their speed and efficiency astonishes me when the store is bursting with eager shoppers. If crowds aren't your thing then maybe try and avoid the weekends; there are always people around but its less likely you'll be distracted from some great shoe shopping.
