However, the problem was that the service was, well, partly good, partly bad - it sort of depend who was around at time time. Probably the best Indian I have had. Seriously fantastic curry and the most amazing onion pakoras I have tasted . Reasonably priced and the portions are perfect . The vegetable vindaloo was incredible. It had taste and heat that didn't obscure the dish. The service was attentive and the place was clean and friendly. Dinner with a visitor from interstate proved to be an enjoyable experience at Punjabi Palace. We had 2 mains. Punjabi Delight - a house specialty. We had the lamb. A blend of cashews, spices and sultanas. Prawns Malai - prawns cooked in a rich sauce with traditional spices. Both dishes were great and definitely as good as expected. I am not good with spice. ..well that is a small understatement. The first time I tried a "mild" dish by indian standards I felt I had minor asphyxiation. ..so it was with some trepidation I had dinner at Punjabi palace. I was pleasantly surprised with the vegetarian curry, it was not overly creamy but still very lush and rich. The mild meat dishes had a lovely finish to them, they simply melted on your tongue. But the garlic naan was the star dish, it was light, crispy but full of flavour. Perfection! Although some people may complain that it is not an overly authentic indian restaurant. I didn't really feel that it mattered. The value and the service was really good, so I will definitely be back. (I have my heart set out on trying the Chicken Makhini ...and perhaps the rest of the menu!) The place is also always pretty packed on a weekend, so I highly advise booking ahead. read more

Pre-Father's Day dinner with the Dad in law saw me at Punjabi Palace on a Saturday night. Although it was quite busy, and we had no reservation they found us a table and seated us super quickly. The menu was pretty standard Indian fare, nothing exciting or out of the ordinary, which is not necessarily bad, but a seasonal special might 'spice' up the dated menu a tad in my opinion. Speaking of dated, the restaurant itself looks and feels as if I've stepped into some kind of early 80's time warp, or my Nana's lounge room if she was an Indian woman with a penchant for fake flowers. I'm surprised to see it looking this way, a few years ago the front of the store was hit by a bus, which would have been the perfect opportunity for a makeover, I would have thought. The toilets are also a bit of a mission to get to, up a flight of stairs, through the back door, past the kitchen in a back driveway. I probably wouldn't recommend this place for anyone with limited mobility. On to the food. We went with the banquet option which was really well priced at $21 each for one main meal, 2 naan, pickles, raita, chutney and a small Indian salad (tomato, onion and coriander). For the mains Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala and Beef Vindaloo. A word of advice, if you're expecting a hot curry you may need to specify that you actually want it HOT. Our hot spiced curries were pretty mild. The food came out pretty quickly and was pretty tasty, although I suspect they weren't cooked to order which I suppose is normal for most Indian joints these days. The naan was a little undercooked, soggy and sad but the flavour was there. Dad in law was happy with his meal (except for the level of spice), so I'm sure we'll be dining here again. Punjabi Palace served up an enjoyable dinner, and is great value for money for those looking for an inexpensive night out. read more

Punjabi Palace is my favourite Indian restaurant in Brisbane, and is definitely suited to my tastes (world food seems very individually-loved or hated!). I do find it unreliable though, with different cooks on different nights - sometimes things can taste absolutely vastly different. And there are so many front of house staff - some unbelievably helpful, others absolutely clueless. Punjabi Palace is *always* busy, with people scuttling around everywhere, and as long as I can remember, it's been pretty packed - so it's always good to call and book a table. They do have an upstairs section as well - so even if it looks like there's not a table free from the street, there's often one upstairs that you can be put on. Smit, the man on the front, who, like Ganesh, the great elephant god, or an octopus, seemingly has 100 arms. He's on the phone, he's taking bookings, he's giving out takeaway, he's taking payments, and he's seating people. He's nothing short of incredible, and has remembered my voice and name forever, always making sure we get a table. He's incredibly sweet - but I haven't been dining as frequently as I used to, and haven't seen him in ages. Like a good receptionist, it's important to make a good impression with the person on the door, and not be rude! Like most Indian restaurants - great vegetarian food is in abundant supply, thanks to India's large vegetarian cultural heritage. The bonus with Punjabi Palace is that, unlike most Indian food, which is saturated with clarified butter - ghee (the cow is sacred in Hinduism), many dishes can be assembled with oil instead of clarified butter - making it great for vegans. Even better - "dairy-free" items are listed on the menu - so vegetarian + dairy free = vegan. Gluten free dishes are clearly marked as well. The samosas and onion baji pakoras are pretty darn delicious (though the samosa pastry has changed considerably, and isn't the absolute magic wrapping that it used to be), and, provided you stick to the vegetarian mains (not vegetarian-ising the meat mains), the prices are really cheap - under $15 for main meals, with rice included. The rotis can be made vegan, too (but check for ghee dressing the bread). My favourites are the dahls - and these aren't your watery, lentil and vegetable soup style dahls - they're thick, creamy, smoky, rich, long-simmered dishes that are almost like gravies. The dahl palak (with spinach) or the dahl masala (smoky mix) are great options. Sadly, they've suffered a bit of late - with a racist brawl a couple of years ago, and a bus crashing into them this week, but I'd like to see people keep supporting them - they've been around a long time and have (mostly) brought the goods, especially considering they're open 7 days. I'm not convinced by Punjabi Palace. I've been there quite a few times now and have definitely had some great curries; unfortunately there has been more that I haven't enjoyed. I found many of the Punjabi Palace meals seemed pre-cooked. I may be wrong, but the meals had a taste that wasn't overly fresh. This came down to the meat in each of the meals - it was often tough and tasted like off-cuts of any tastier piece of meat. Naan bread at Punjabi Palace is a different story. Like the other Yelpers to review, I found the naan soft and fresh, especially with so many varieties available. Definitely worth a visit, however I think I'm done with this restaurant. read more

It had been a long day, so we decided to eat out for dinner. Indian was the choice. I scored a park right outside the door (*fist pumps*) and in we went. It was reasonably quiet and we got a nice little table down the back. While embarking on an expedition to the gents, I also found there's a dining room upstairs, so if it's looking busy, chances are you'll still get a table. Chicken tikka masala is my go to, and it wasn't bad. I've had packet naan from the supermarket when i've made indian myself, and i've had naan cooked fresh while I watched. These guys serve up the packet stuff. Disappointing. The food isn't bad, the prices are fine, but don't expect anything amazing. read more

The first time I came here, I was suitably impressed with the food, but not the table we were on. We didn't book and the place was packed. So they shoved us on this tiny 2 person table on an angle, crooked by the back staircase... which the waiters used... and hit our table every now and then while they went about their nightly duties. The Naan Bread is always my favourite... plain or garlic, they cook it well, it's soft, not to chewy and always hot, also a good thing. The tandoori chicken appetiser was very authentic and a huge serving... what are they feeding these chickens with... steroids!? My favourite was the Chicken Tikki Masala (surprise surprise) it's because I don't like to venture outside my safe food zone, so I always order the same curries at different restaurants, it's my thing okay. They also give you so much rice! The second time I came here, I had the Massuman Curry with Beef and had to go to the toilet outside (really daggy out there, and scary) and I threw up. I was also pregnant at the time, so i'm not too sure what it was. The food was good I swear! Even after that experience, I will still go back, hands down one of the better Indian restaurants in Brisbane for sure. read more

I've been going to the Palace for around 20 years and nearly without exception the food has been first class. The naan bread is out of this world and the chicken tikka marsala is my G.O.A.T. curry. This was the first place I ever tried curry from and would recommend it to anyone. read more

We have eaten here several times, the entrees and mains are usually good and most times its close to a full house. However they seriously need to completely remove the Dessert menu or start again, with it. I've tried 3 desserts from here over the last month, and I'd score each, a 2 out of 10. The desserts really let them down and they often taste stale or have icey freezer burn... Even though their mains are good, I'd never bring guests here as there's no desserts worth eating and even for hippy West End the ladies toilets are atrocious, with the smashed window that still hasn't been fixed... read more

just ordered lamb vindaloo and palak paneer here for takeaway. i ordered online and they have a $9.95 wednesday deal for a lot of dishes including rice. pretty good, nice flavours and not oily like some places. The palak paneer tastes a bit sweet for some reason but that's just me. wasnt impressed with the naan though, was not warm and seemed like pita bread almost. Food is delicious. Place is well decorated and menu is well written. However, the staff are so rude. Also, it is too pricy. Also, most tables were left dirty with plates of leftovers. You can find far more delicious and cheaper Indian cuisines around Brisbane. read more

Punjabi Palace is my partner's absolute favourite Indian food in town, and I have to say, I can see why. There are very few places that make curries with such rich, full sauces with the amazing texture of Punjabi Palace. The creamy sauces are absolutely to die for, particularly the Korma and the Butter Paneer. I'd hazard a guess and say Punjabi Palace will probably add more to your waistline than you want, but it's absolutely worth it for the flavours. The restaurant is BYO and upstairs is a great spot for functions. Indian food is best when shared, so take along a group and enjoy! read more

One of the better Indian restaurants south of the river, I come here for the delicious naan among other things. These guys have so many varieties there's a whole bread menu. Their signature Punjabi naan is stuffed with cheese and spinach, while the Peshwari naan is an interesting sweet variety filled with nuts and dried fruit. It goes well with a mild and slightly sweet curry like a chicken tikka masala. read more

Dry old stale rice. How hard can it be to serve fresh rice not left over rice from lunch service. Really! Undercooked doughy naan bread. Five dollars for a piece of flat bread and they can't cook it. Well I'm certainly not coming back to this place. There are much better Indian restaurants that cost less. read more

Bad service and Worst quality food This one star given actually goes to server who insisted on to our feedback. We reserved the slot for in the evening on 7 March 2017 and was happy to see the front decor. We ordered for Dal Makhani, Dal Masala, Shahi Paneer and Methi Matar Malai and around few butter Rotis as a main course and Veg samosas as starter. To start with series of blunders by this restaurant, we were served with paneer tikka masala and samosas and then server insisted that its you table's order. We denied and she still insisted, kept dishes on our table and went away. After 5-10 minutes she came, with any apologies she took all these starters from our table and went to kitchen again. Then our samosas came and after opening a samosa we got a foul smell instantly. This was not accepted. We complained to server, he came confirmed its some mistake by kitchen staff, took starter dishes and disappeared. Now finally after waiting for 25 minutes, finally food arrived. Butter Rotis are nothing but a thin pizza bases heated on Tawa for 5-10 minutes with oil and served. Preparation for all dishes were not up to the Indian taste and mark. Methi matar malai is my one of the favourite ones, but the cook ruined it by making it spicy and adding paneer in it. They are using same base for all preparation. Seriously pathetic food and restaurant. Worst experience for us. This restaurant must be reviewed for hygiene and cleanliness. read more

A prompt and full apology and a complimentary lassie whilst I waited. The food was fresh and delicious and they even through in a naan bread.
