We saw La Lanterna on our first night thought we have to give it a try while we were here. The next night we walked by and the was a table outside in the stairs. OK, it does not talk much to excite us but this was awesome. Enjoying our meal while watching people walk by and walk by. A lot of people walk by and look et you. So if you are self conscious ask to sit inside. They have a basic menu of pasta and at first we thought, "this will not be enough food." It was plenty and so flavorful. In our four weeks of travel in Italy and Greece, this was my most memorable and tasty meal. No hesitation. Just a cute little restaurant with a great eating experience.

Just barely beating the rush, we were given a lovely table inside and could enjoy the artsy decor--loved the flat wine bottle art, just wish it wasn't so expensive. 60 euros with the current exchange rate is a bit much especially that I was wary of being able to get it home safely! My mom went with the minestrone and she raved about it the rest of the trip! I dipped some of my bread in it and agree that it was quite good and that's not normally a soup I care for. The rest of us somehow all got lasagna and most of us enjoyed it, though one of the group found it too "creamy." I would agree that I do like a bit more mozzarella on my lasagna, but that could also be an American thing and not "authentic." Really the only negative here was having to go all the way downstairs to pay my bill. The restaurant isn't very big yet it was not the easiest journey and the wait down there was a bit long. Otherwise a great experience!

The owner is extremely knowledgeable, steered me to many new incredible finds in wines that "punch above their weight" as far as quality for the cost. She and her staff are kind, and quick to pour you a taste of something good, and the wide variety of gourmet food items and coffees is icing on the cake! Don't miss it in the wonderful town of Stresa, and be sure to swing by and look at the website to search for your favorites.

Besides, having "day off" seemed like a good idea for leisurely day especially after the fabulous dinner and evening before. So late morning, we self indulged with a fabulous Gelato and decided it was too rich to then have lunch. So we went to the for-normal-local -residents grocery Store, a Carrefours, and bought some Bread, Gorgonzola Cheese, Crackers, Prosciutto, Cappola etc. All we needed was some wine for our lake-view Balcony picnic. We had already visited La Cambusa- now it was time to rerun and see what the Owner, Rosaria recommended- she having owned this delightful Store for over 53 years. She recommended a lovely local small vintage Dolcettta (great with the Cheese), and even loaned us two nice Wine Glasses (which we were sure to return the next day...washed). She was lovely, spent a fair amount of time with us explaining anything of interest (including her dried pasta's). Shen even made sure we were aware of the daily late afternoon wine tastings we unfortunately missed. But her store is excellent, and she is a delightful and friendly woman who revels in the soft sale approach and how to be subtle in marketing her store and values. Visit her and her adult Children helping to run the place. She's terrific, friendly and will be a lovely memory for along time.
