I haven't been to a gym in about a year, and I figured it was probably time to change that so I had a look at some of the local offerings to see what was about.
This Pure Gym, in Offerton, is the one which I eventually decided on. At £19 a month for a membership, it's definitely not going to break the bank like some other gyms around my area will, and it actually offers a surprising amount for that price.
They've got all the usual gear: cardio machines, like treadmills, cross-trainers, bikes; resistance machines, for working specific muscle groups; and free weights for those who laugh in the face of puny resistance machines. They have a pretty good range of classes available as well, from "Inductions" for everything from General Fitness to Flexibility, to spin classes and yoga.
I've been both in the morning and evenings, after work, and whilst the on-site car park can be full quite frequently that doesn't necessarily suggest that the gym itself is rammed. Whenever I've been, I've had no problem using the equipment I've wanted to use - there may have been the odd occasion where I've had to switch up the order in which I do things, as certain machines are being used, but I haven't come across anyone using anything for excessive periods.
The interior is pretty minimalist, but with lots of floor space for maximal usage. Classes are held away from the main floor in a studio, and the free weights are separate as well.
There are a couple of vending machines on site, providing everything from protein bars and shakes to padlocks for the lockers. Best of all, though - the vending machines take contactless or APPLE PAY! I am not quite over the novelty of being able to buy a protein shake from a machine with my phone, though I suspect that may wear off when I see how much that's costing...
If you're looking for a cost effective, no frills gym in Stockport you can do a lot worse than Pure Gym. Trust me, I've checked. read more
