This firm handled my personal and business taxes for three years. Every single year, I received notices from the IRS and the Department of Revenue stating that my returns were filed incorrectly. Communication was another constant problem. Nearly every scheduled meeting was canceled due to an "emergency." This happened year after year. The first year, after I emailed all required documents, I was invoiced to review and respond to IRS and State of Oregon notices caused by their own mistakes. Even after paying for their review, the issue was not resolved, and I am now making monthly payments for taxes that should have been handled correctly from the start. Document management was equally troubling. After sending complete records by email, I was repeatedly told they could not locate them, as if they had never been received. Most recently, I learned that in 2023 the CPA failed to check the box to file an extension for my returns. As a result, I am now responsible for paying the penalty for their oversight. I gave this firm three years, hoping things would improve. They did not. I have since switched to a new CPA. Other entrepreneurs should think carefully before trusting this firm with their livelihood.

This doesn't surprise me as this is the type of communication you can expect from them. They didn't even know I moved, so, it was mailed on Nov. 4th, but, I just received the letter November 16th. I still never received answers since last year that are very important to my business, like, about obtaining a VAT ID. Last year was a nightmare for everyone and I excused a LOT of problems but, this is ridiculous. If you don't need anything done by a certain time, aren't trying to buy a house, like to get ghosted while trying to communicate and get dropped a month before your tax appointment, call them.

The only complaint I have, is that Jan has never gotten me the million dollar refund I have been asking him for, for many years. I will keep using the services of B&K Tax Services until Jan retires, which I hope isn't before I'm gone and no longer need him. Hang in there Jan, and never retire. I'm counting on you.

I used H&R block to file my return in 2025 primarily because I needed to file estate taxes in addition to personal taxes. The tax professional I worked with in 2025 was helpful, communicative and up front about the cost of her services. This year, I chose to work with H&R block again and was unable to work with the professional I had previously used, my experience was the opposite. Firstly, Vivian was not prepared to meet with me and seemed unaware of my scheduled appointment. During our appointment she was dismissive and didn't even try to gather information about my filing situation as an estate representative, she told me "we don't have time to hear about that". She also repeatedly assumed I was filing the estate taxes as income though this is not correct and did not listen to my explanation, repeatedly talking over me. She told me to make another appointment for my estate return, even though I had been upfront in booking my appointment that this is why I was coming in. I receive some income through 1099 contract work, Vivian incorrectly assumed this was a self employment situation and encouraged me to record business expenses that I told her I did not incur and do not keep receipts for, even encouraging me to record "office supply" expenses when I told her I never purchase supplies for my contact work. Additionally, there was a profound lack of awareness, empathy and professionalism around discussing estate taxes. Vivian repeatedly discussed her personal finances and asked me if I thought she should be a representative for her friend's estate and discussed how much money she could make off this arrangement. I found this incredibly unprofessional and inappropriate. Vivian was not transparent about costs & did not discuss them upfront with me. Despite having a straightforward personal filing situation with the same forms and income I received last year, she invoiced me for almost double what I paid at the same location. At the front desk, I was told they could not explain the reasons for the invoice increase to me. I expressed my concerns to H&R block but when I asked for a contact to share my concerns in writing I was hung up on. I would never recommend Vivian to a friend and am reluctant to work with any H&R block again, they have lost my trust as a customer.

Tracy Fisher is an incompetent CPA who didn't prepare our taxes correctly, which created a…read morenightmare for us with the IRS. He prepared our 2016 taxes. He was slow to respond to our emails and never fully addressed our questions. Although we gave him tax documents as soon as we had them, he dragged out the completion of our taxes until they were almost late. Our experience as clients was enough to discourage us from hiring Tracy Fisher again. Then, in fall of 2018 the IRS notified us that we still owed more taxes from 2016. I emailed Tracy regarding the IRS notice and he informed us that if we were still working with him, he would look into it for no charge, but since we weren't, he suggested we have someone else remedy the situation. He was not willing to stand by his work. We had our current CPA handle the matter. They discovered that Tracy had neglected to submit a couple of forms making it look like we owed more tax. Our current CPA eventually corrected the situation with the IRS, but charged us for doing so. I emailed Tracy that he had made glaring mistakes on our taxes and that I felt it would be appropriate for him to reimburse us for our out of pocket expenses to have his errors corrected.
