When you doom scroll, you come across many different places that are true hidden gems. Door To Nowhere, or Heigold House, is definitely an oddity and salute to the past. Some housekeeping, you know, things to know about this place. BE CAREFUL. This sits on a roundabout island with steady traffic. Be mindful to the traffic flow and businesses nearby (I parked at a nearby business off the road and walked over here). Be kind to the natural beauty that surrounds this. And most of all, be respectful. As I said, this sits on a roundabout with flowerbeds surrounding it. Whether you are facing front, as in looking at the front of the façade, or looking from the rear, please stay on the sidewalks provided. Take in the informational plaques as well. Built by Christian H Heigold, a successful stonecutter. Majority of the house was completed in 1853. Heigold was a master at stonecutting and completed the home with busts of Presidents George Washington and James Buchanan. Heigold was also a staunch opponent of the 'Know Nothing Party,' and anti-immigration political party and I would like to think that he built his house with all the busts was a big middle finger to those that were anti-immigration. This façade sat in what was known as the The Point neighborhood, which was favored by those that moved to the city from the New Orleans area. Once Louisville diverted the Beargrass Creek away from downtown, this place started to flood annually. Shifting people away from the neighborhood and then the Great Flood of 1937 happened. Slowly the city started buying houses and demolishing them. Ultimately using the land as a dump site. Then this façade was listed on the National Registry of Historical Places. Remained in that area which became Thruston Park. That is until a developer bought the land adjacent to this and build condos. They moved this massive beast, 70,000-pounds, across River Road to where it sits today.

Painted on the wall of the Rabbit Hole Distillery that overlooks the parking lot is a brightly…read morecolored mural depicting six scenes from Alice in Wonderland (or if one wants to be technically correct, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland). The six scenes are: the hookah smoking caterpillar; Alice holding her cat, with the Cheshire Cat in the background; the Queen of Hearts' frog servants; the Queen of Hearts; the Mad Hatter; and the White Rabbit. Alice in wonderland public art mural located on the side of the rabbit hole distillery in the Nulu…read moreneighborhood of Lousiville Kentucky. Nulu is stocked full of awesome and beautiful public art works. Thai Alice and wonderland rendering has added to that. So detailed, specific and well done. Everytime I walk by it I notice a detail that I haven't before. Overall a beautiful and wonderfully done piece of public art. I can see it becoming a favorite of many inside the city.

Very cool public art mural located on the side of a eatery off Baxter ave that pays tribute to the…read morelate great Muhammad Ali must famous catch phrase. Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. The mural consist of a pair of boxing gloves with its angel halo (I assume created shortly after ali passing) and the left wing being a butterfly wing and the right wing being a bee wing. Very cool and unique. While the mural never mentions Ali name or the phrase or is obvious what the message is by the creative use of symbolism. Overall a great piece and while it's not very large and kinda hard to spot on the side of a building it may be one of my new favorite pieces because of the creativity.

Located down the…read morestreet from the goant Lousiville slugger bay and next tot he shine bright mural this piece is right under the expressway underpasses. A bunch of twisted piping that at the beginning of it says the words "Louisville". I'm not sure the purpose or what it represents and after the words Lousiville it's kinda a mess and hard to determine what the design is. Overall it's still a unique piece to the city and kinda cool. In a weird spot so I'm not sure how much exposure it gets as the one way street people usually have merged on the expressway before hitting the underpass.

Intended to draw more visitors to this part of Louisville, this orange colored artwork is a series of tubes and lines. Literally, a knot that stretches about 165 feet. It is apparently interactive, but other than banging on one end of it, I couldn't figure out anything else. There is metered street parking nearby. [Review 13591 overall, 910 of 2020.]

The yellow and blue lettering is painted on a black background with an outline of a futuristic city, reminiscent of The Jetsons cartoon. I don't know who the artist is, nor the meaning behind the mural, as I couldn't find any information, but I suppose it's meant to be inspirational and give people a positive outlook for the future. Very large, creative and fittingly enough futuristic looking wall mural in the Nulu neighborhood…read moreof Louisville Kentucky. You're important to the future is a great thought process and even cooler display of public art. Very hard to miss as it sprawls all across a whole building wall and makes for some cool and fun photo ops. I can imagine this is popular with graduation photos. If not then it probably should be. I'll take a slight commission for any photographers who use this idea ;). Overall like most things in the Nulu neighborhood this is a really cool find and any art or mural lovers will surely enjoy it.

The horse mural behind the Nulu marketplace is a massive, Beautiful and colorful piece of public…read moreart. This is one of my favorite pieces of seen walking the Nulu area. Everyone knows Kentucky and Louisvile specifically is horse racing country so this large mural down the art factory is a good representation of the area. Nulu marketplace is a combined common area that is the home of a few popular Nulu hot spots. Including Emmy squared pizza. The best way to find this mural is to walk either behind the buildings or walk through the marketplace area and out the back where the parking lot is and you can't miss it. Overall a great addition to not only eh Nulu art scene but the Louisville art scene. Great job by the artists as well. I think it will be a really popular photo op for locals and tourists.

Sunshine on a cloudy day…read more I like this mural and it is a bit of a surprise if you are driving in the area, because it is along a one-way street and the direction of traffic does not go towards the mural. So if you happen to pull in to the parking lot for the NuLu market/courtyard area, you will be greeted by the sight of this huge mosaic style mural, the size of an entire side of a building! Bright, colorful, and regionally appropriate in its subject matter. I like it and it usually puts a smile on my face.

Parade of animals is a large and fun public art mural that consists of a multiple of different…read moreanimals painted on the side of this Frankfort ave building in Lousiville Kentucky. One of the larger murals in the city. The massive mural contains animals such as an elephant, giraffe, octopus and a whale. It isn't very colorful as it is painted in black outline on a side exterior of a white building. However it is still very cool and me and kids always enjoy checking it out when we are near Frankfort ave or in the crescent hill neighborhood. Overall very fun and often photographed piece in the the city of louisville. One of the cooler and more notable murals in the city.

Very massive and brightly colored mural that sticks out and has a fun vibe to it. I'll admit I was not familiar with the subject depicted in this mural. She was evidently a famed Mexican painter in her own right so it seems appropriate she is being honored in her own professional field. Overall a very nice piece tang is noticeable and a great addition to a Nulu neighborhood that has some truly amazing public art murals.

The music is on, the drinks are fantastic and the food is off the charts delicious and the Frida Kahlo mural oversees it all. Super nice pop of color with tons of style.
