Jin is truly amazing, she made a beautiful Kpop demon hunters cake for my daughters birthday. And when I saw it, it was absolutely gorgeous. I definitely recommend her and will be coming back for my son's birthday in a few months. She has so many options to choose from with the flavors/ ingredients as well. And she truly values the ingredients in which she uses for her cakes - which not only make the cakes taste better but display beautifully. Little Gem I have passed by Mye dozens of times and have never stopped in, that is until yesterday. The bakery offers something for everyone. MY Gal Sal offers so many choices, regular baked goods, gluten-free, vegan, Keto, the options are endless. On this visit I ordered a melt away bar and rasberry macaroon. The Macaroon was the best I've had in a long time, maybe ever and the melt away bar was also delicious. Everything was so fresh and flaorful, I cant wait to go back and sample more menu items. They wouldn't help me. The customer interaction was rude and stagnant. I can't tell you anything about their cakes and goods because they refused to even help us. We were trying to purchase an event cake for several weeks from now, and they refused. So.... 1 star. We found a better bakery. Try ABBIE CAKES SWEET KITCHEN! The cakes are incredible, and I mean incredible. If you don't wanna believe me, just go in and try a simple cupcake, you will understand. Also, they were willing to not only take our cake order, despite the time frame, they are making an extra effort due to the nature of WHY we needed the cake. read more

I was so nervous ordering my daughter's 1st birthday cake because it was my first time ever ordering a custom cake (and let's be real, they can get pricey and I wanted it to be worth it) but Purple Elephant did not disappoint! I sent her pictures of what I wanted and it came out perfect. We went with a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and strawberries inside and it was delicious, we got so many compliments on the flavor and texture. Even my mom who does not like cake or strawberries admitted it was good The owner has great communication and took time to explain things in terms of cutting and serving and all that during pick up. Don't even think about going anywhere else for your wedding cake! I found Purple Elephant by searching on Yelp. I knew I wanted a rustic style cake for my Autumn themed wedding this past November. Jin was the first baker my husband and I met with for our cake tastings. The tasting was free and she gave us each a plate with generous slices of various flavors to try such as green tea, almond, vanilla, chocolate, etc. Each slice incorporated various buttercream flavors in them. I would describe her cake to be a consistency of Asian cakes (moist, fluffy, and not too sweet). Jin was also very honest in her opinion and suggested that we did not need one serving of cake for every guest. She said that a 3-tiered cake would be plenty for a 200 guest wedding. This made our cake cheaper than what was expected and I really appreciated her advice. After the tasting, my overall feeling was that I was going to go with her. However, just to be sure I went to two other cake tastings with other bakers. Those other cakes did not compare and their prices were competitive or even more expensive. Booking her was one of the best decisions ever. She made my dream cake come to life. We had a different flavor for each tier. My favorite combination was the almond cake with cookies and cream buttercream. The cake also came with a rental cake stand and Jin was nice enough to drive all the way back to the venue to pick up the stand the same night as the wedding! I ordered a joint 60th Birthday cake from Purple Elephant, well two cakes really, a 6 and a 0, the 6 was decorated for my wife and the 0 was decorated for me. Both cakes looked and tasted amazing. We were so pleased. We had them delivered to Litchfield's at the WigWam where we had a lovely dinner with all our family. The manager brought the cakes in at the end of the dinner. The end to a perfect evening Purple Elephant cakes are not the cheapest but from start to finish the process with them was seamless, and the end results justified the price. Another quality visit to Purple Elephant. Today, the family tried four cupcakes (Almond Oreo, Carmel Marble, Vanilla, and Strawberry Mango). As usual, the cakes were so moist and frosting as sweet and tasty as always. Staff is great and store very clean. Just a great little spot for a quick treat. On a side note, they have a huge selection of macaroons that I would love to try but I just can't swallow paying $2.50 a piece for such a small treat. Not that their price is high, as that does appear to be the going price. Just not sure why macaroons in general are so pricey. I will have to cave in though at some point because all their other treats are so good and will have to confirm the macaroons as well :p read more

I can say with complete confidence that this is the best cake pop I've ever had in my life. My sister agreed with me after eating hers as well! When we got there all of the cupcakes were already sold out. I think that's a sign of delicious cupcakes Haha. So we went for cake pops! I got pink velvet and my sister got white chocolate vanilla, we got that one for my dad too. The cake is perfectly moist, the outer layer is sweet and creamy without being too sweet. My sister and mom also shared macaroons which they enjoyed. The girl working there was very sweet and helpful to us. I totally recommend! Just sad that this place isn't closer to me! read more

Amazing pastry / cake designer in the burbs of Phoenix. The owner / chef was trained at the International Culinary Center (formerly French Culinary Institute) who has alumni such as Bobby Flay and deans such as Jacques Pepin. Every cake, macaron, cupcake we have eaten or ordered is skillfully designed and comes out like it was off the Food Network! My only complaint is I wish this stuff came in a calorie free version as I hold her personally responsible for my inability to lose the love handles. I came here to get my Wedding cake and I am very happy with the service the taste and quality of the cake. The owner let me try a few of the flavors of cake and frosting by giving me these amazing cupcakes. I got pink champagne with white chocolate frosting and it's amazing. I appreciate that the owner took her time to listen to my requests and ideas and worked with me to give me my ideal wedding cake and at a great price. I frequent often to grab cupcakes for my kids and they also have macaroons cake pops gelato and cakes to indulge in. Also they are vegan friendly if that's your thing!! read more

I searched on several wedding sites and here on yelp for a baker to make my wedding cake. The venue I had provided cake from the Cakery in Burlingame, but I didn't like their cakes as it's just bland cake with buttercream fillings that hardly had flavor. I ended up tasting cake from four locations. Jin's cake at Purple Elephant tasted the best with the most unique flavor combinations and was the cheapest! Her cakes have two layers of fillings for each tier, allowing you to have special combinations with the many fillings she offers. She also offers fresh fruit as a filling, which we didn't see from other bakers, as well as fruit preserve. We ended up having almond cake with a layer of berry preserve and a layer of dark chocolate, marble cake with a layer of fresh raspberries in buttercream and a layer of coconut buttercream, and finally green tea cake with a layer of red bean and walnuts and a layer of vanilla buttercream. All of our guests liked our cake and said it was unlike anything they've had at other weddings. Jin is also very accommodating with your availability to meet with her for the tasting and flavor combinations you'd like to try. Some other bakers would not let you try any of the flavors they offer (bizarre, right?) and would only let you try the most popular ones. Jin's cake is also not dry or overwhelmingly sweet like other bakeries. I highly recommend ordering a cake from her for any occasion. read more

I found Jin Hee while browsing for vendors for my daughter's 1st birthday party. I remember stumbling on her Facebook page around 2am in the morning. Once I saw the photos of her cakes online, I knew immediately that I had to hire her. We had two separate events which required her skillful baking techniques. The first was for our daughter's "Smash Cake" photo session & the second was for our daughter's 1st birthday party. I emailed Jin Hee photos of my daughters outfits prior to both dates and she was able to match and coordinate the colors on the cake perfectly. Most of our exchanges were over email, because with a 1 yr old, all my prep took place at the weee hours of the night. Jin Hee was always prompt to respond to emails, a major plus in my book. "Smash Cake": For the smash cake I dressed my daughter in a onesie with multi color polka dots. I really didn't have any design thoughts for this cake, so we let Jin Hee surprise us. The only part that we were involved with was choosing the strawberry filling and vanilla crème. Jin Hee surprised us with matching cake that had polka dots & a large number #1 that was perfect for pictures. Our family enjoyed the cake after the shoot once we brought it home. At first glance, I thought it was a fondant cake, but soon realized that it was smoothed to perfection with buttercream. It was soo tasteful that I want to say we probably ate half the cake on the first day "1st Birthday Cake": I gave a bit more direction for the 1st birthday cake. I knew that we wanted a traditional Korean girl doll as the cake topper w/ a cherry blossom theme to match our backdrop. Jin Hee styled out the cake and emailed us a pdf of photos that she was going to use for inspiration. As they say, photos are worth 1000 words. We provided some small recommendations on color and sizing, but that was pretty much it. Jin Hee accommodated our request to have two separate flavors for each tier of our 2-tiered cake. We chose the red velvet and green tea w/red bean filling. The cake turned out & tasted amazing!! I can only imagine how time consuming it must have been for her to place each delicate little cherry blossom onto the cake. Looking back, my only regret was not ordering matching cookies as party favors. I also wish that I had found Jin Hee a few years sooner so I could have hired her to do our wedding cake. We just had our daughter's birthday cake done by Jin (the owner) . She did an excellent job on the cake. The cake looked very beautiful & it looked like an art piece. The flavor was amazing. I am very much into cakes and it took me a long time to find "Purple Elephant Cakes" after doing so much research. Also, I am very detailed oriented when it comes to cakes :). I found photos of few cakes I liked via the Internet and we created a custom cake based on our theme (ballerina). It was a two tier cake. I did all of my correspondence via email. Long way over due review for Jin Hee! I first ordered my cake from Jin Hee back in 2016 ( when she was still living in the Bay Area. So sad she no longer lives in the bay) for my baby shower. I sent her a sample photo of a cake I like. She was able to make the cake exactly what I want but even better! It was prefect! The flavors for our two tiered cake were marble cake with chocolate buttercream and strawberry shortcake. Both were absolutely moist and the flavors were on point. People are usually full by the end of the party and skips the cake. Not at my party! Everyone tried the cake and was blown away and asked me where I ordered my cake from. Not only did they tried the cake, some wanted more! =) Fast forward... I had my baby in June and knew I would need a cake for my baby's 100th day celebration. I emailed Jin Hee a month before the party and she responded promptly and was available for my event. I was soo happy she wasn't booked. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else for my daughters 100th day cake. Again, the cake turned out perfect! It was moist and flavorful. Cake flavor for two tiered were, Almond with salty caramel buttercream and carrot with cream cheese frosting. We had so many compliments on the cake! We were glad our family and friends got to enjoy Jin Hee's cake before she moved to Arizona. Jin Hee is such a sweet heart and so humble to work with. Purple Elephant Cakes is the hands down the premier custom cake bakery in the West Valley. I feel so fortunate to have had Jin make both of my daughter's birthday cakes. Each were beautifully crafted and tasted equally as scrumptious. All of our guests were blown away and wanted to know where the cakes were from. Jin provides excellent customer service. A Purple Elephant? Our name - Purple Elephant Cakes - was inspired by chef Jin's then 4 year old daughter Annie's fascination with a purple elephant. The ineffable playfulness and charm of the idea struck both Jin and Annie as a perfect fit for Jin's delicious desserts. Whimsical, playful, colorful, vibrant, young and cheerful are the qualities we want our brand, Purple Elephant Cakes, to represent.

Meet the Business Owner: Jin S.

Jin Hee Sonu Founder & Cake Designer Jin's desserts capture and celebrate the essence of what makes her client's events special to them. After attending the International Culinary Center (ICC, formerly The French Culinary Institute) of NYC in 2004, Jin spent years perfecting her pastry skills at renowned NYC venues including Café Boulud, Spice Market, Morimoto, the Gilt at the Palace Hotel in New York, working under award-winning pastry chefs. Jin opened her first custom cake shop in the posh Upper East Side of Manhattan neighborhood in 2010 with her ICC alumnus Candy Tamano Iannelli. Just a few years later, she opened up her second cake shop in San Mateo, CA after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. More recently, Jin moved to West Valley, Arizona with her husband Scott and her daughter Ann, opening her latest incarnation of Purple Elephant Cakes in 2017. Jin's desserts have been featured on the Style Me Pretty website and in FEMALE Magazine (Singapore).

I honestly go there almost every day to savor each flavor that appears left and right. It's totally all natural, it has no shortening, which I find very surprising because the frosting tastes even better than other cupcake stores. The Baker, Jin, is so nice and I just love how she tries to find the best in all of her custom cakes and other pastries. They also have espresso coffees, which help out my stressful morning. I first came at the grand opening, and they were very kind and polite which makes me more confident in coming in more often.
