While searching for bars in the area, I stumbled upon Pusser's. A classic gem and supposedly the oldest cocktail bar in town, best known for their Painkiller. I have to admit, the Painkiller was pretty good! Definitely worth a try! The bartender was friendly and had some great recommendations, which made the experience even better! Downstairs is a piano bar with live music which was pretty awesome. The bar played old 1950s music. Keep in mind, the cocktail menu is extensive, almost like a book! The bar is well worth checking out if you're into classic cocktails and a laid-back, timeless vibe. read more

One of the best times I've had in Munich in this cocktail bar. The bar tenders "der Doctor" and Michael were the best. They spoke English and German equally as well. My wife had a Pain Killer ( medium strength) and I was drinking Gin and Tonic's. Watching "der Doctor" mix drinks was very entertaining as well as talking with the other customers. We've been to Pussers in Annapolis and had a good time also. The owner of this location, who was sitting at the end of the bar, said he had worked in the Annapolis location before, so he said. He was a bit drunk and loud but after a while he left and the atmosphere returned to fun/normal. We stayed for another drink. The place is right around the corner from the Hofbrau house. This is so my kind of place incredibly cool yet understated. A quite bar in the back lanes of the city centre that serves awesome cocktails. I had the pain killer #3 and yes you can't have too many of these as they are pretty potent. Served in an enameled steel cup (just like the prison mugs) but delicious. There is an extensive cocktail menu, piano bar downstairs and waiters that are dressed in white and looking cool but casual :-) The atmosphere is fabulous (it's the only way I can describe it). Great place to take out a first date or just go for a late night cocktail. This is quintessential Europe for me and I love it :-) Will be back again for sure ;-)) read more

Visited late-night while in Munich for Oktoberfest. Felt like having a cocktail rather than more beer. Venue is listed as a "New York bar." It's not far from Hotel Platzl and Hofbrauhaus. Sat at the bar and we were quickly greeted by an English speaking bartender. We tried a sazerac and a Manhattan. Both were well done. Didn't sample food this time. Pusser's is an institution if your in the Caribbean on Tortola and a must visit. But if your in Munich and you want to get away from the craziness of the HB House go to Pusser's! it's less than a 2 minute walk from the HBH and all the tourists and their beer drinking. It on a very quiet street around the corner, look up for the sign and your there. inside is a bit small but not to small and the bartenders are very friendly and pleasant to talk with. The painkiller is the drink of the house and there's a reason for that. It's the same recipe if your on Tortola or your in Munich and it's VERY good. I'm so disappointed in this bar. It was #1 on my list of bars to visit during my visit to Munich. Four friends and I grabbed a table on a weeknight downstairs next to the piano player. There was one other table of two, so we figured it would be a nice place to enjoy some cocktails. The server came over for our drink order and refused to serve us because one of my friends was not drinking and therefore was not ordering a cocktail. This is the perfect place for a top cocktail in Munich. Almost every restaurant and "lounge" will have a mojito or mediocre caipirnha on their menu, but here the cocktail menu is practically a book. You'll see lots of classics and it's a good opportunity to try some old-school drinks that you don't see so often anymore (Aviation is my personal favorite of those). The grog and Painkiller(s) are also quite good and rightfully local legends. They do have a small bar snacks menu. The chili con carne is a good small bite if you're there later and know not much will be open for food when you leave. The service is usually really friendly. Can seem "slow" on a busy night but the bartenders really do put a lot of care into making you a great drink so be patient. But as you can imagine it gets packed on weekends. Doesn't hurt to call ahead to try and reserve a table, especially if it's more that 2 people. If it's just 2 of you, it's more likely you'll find a spot. If you can go during the week the mood is a lot more relaxed. read more

So good, I'm literally going to take a pause here, go out in the rain to have a couple Old Fashioneds, and then finish this when I come back. *** Three weeks later *** Okay, that took a little longer than expected. Where was I? Soothing yet potent beverages? Ahh, yes, Pusser's. This place has the most professional bartenders in the city. They know their drinks inside and out, they make them correctly, accommodate requests without batting an eye, and the house specials are creative liver-punchers yet soft as feathers. Besides the old classics - this place makes the best Old Fashioneds and Manhattans in town - you can start the evening slowly with a "Painkiller", or immediately consign the evening to a high chance of blackout with a "Painkiller No. 4". There are no judgments here - just good ol' fashioned bartending at its finest. Oh, and did I mention this is a navy bar? That's right. For all you mariners out there, come here to feel at home back in the galley. Of course, you'd then have to order that fine institution of maritime intoxication, Grog. It's served in a mug, which is available for purchase and a good souvenir, but it is chilled. Now let's say you've got your captain's cap, your smoking jacket, your classy-as-hell cocktail, and your beautiful lady. Assuming you're not Hugh Hefner, all that's missing is what? Two points if you said jazz piano. Five points if you make a reservation in advance to make sure you get seating downstairs. Pusser's Bar is depicted as a "New York" bar, which I found somewhat ironic as I didn't get this "Ah, it feels like home!" feeling when I first entered. The place is a little tacky with all the maritime decor to the point where there is a life-sized boat hanging on the ceiling. However, I did see a minute bit of NY charm in the basement of the bar, which is a piano bar occupied by an old man playing his tunes. We wanted to check him out, but it was packed so upstairs we stayed. Service was hit-and-miss but friendly and patient. It was easy for me to pick my drink as it was mentioned by many (friends, Yelpers, and the bar itself) that their specialty Painkiller (Pusser's self-made rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and coconut cream) is the drink-to-try. Depending on how much you want to "kill your pain," the Painkiller comes with different amounts of rum (Painkiller No. 2 having the lowest amount of rum...Painkiller No. 4 having the highest. Where's No. 1??). I tried the No. 2, and I couldn't taste the rum like I was drinking a tropical fruit punch. They only serve very small snacks (chips and salsa, olives, etc.), which was so-so. I really love Pusser's. When I visit a new city, I love to find my "home" bar, and twice now while in Munich, Pusser's has done the job. First attempt to enter and we were greeted by a rude man and he did not seem to care if we were there or not! We finally made it in and greeted by a second rude man.. his name was Gregger (sp).
