With the exception of servers bringing the food out, this restaurant is mostly self service. We ordered at the counter and drinks were given to us there. Full size condiments and caraffes of water with glasses are at the bar for you to take to your table if needed. We sat outside, like everyone else, as it was a beautiful day out. The outdoor seating is covered and has a nice street view. I ordered two vegetarian pancakes which were served with a house salad. The filling in the pancakes were like a really well seasoned mash, made from chickpeas and other veggies. They have alot of healthy options here, including vegetarian and gluten free. We stopped here after a walking tour of Bergen. We were tired and hungry. The tour guide highly recommended it. She was right. Friendly service. This place lured us in with their street sign promising "extremely good atmosphere" and their French-inspired menu. The atmosphere was indeed extremely good. It has a charming French bistro feel to it, while also serving as the restaurant for the Bergen YMCA Hostel, so it attracts a young hip crowd. The food was surprisingly awesome. I got a ciabatta sandwich with brie, bacon, lots of fresh vegetables, and a side of spiced aioli (I ordered this extra since I read so many reviews raving about the aioli). I was mmm-ing and ahh-ing with each bite. Just the right amount of rich creamy brie, intensely flavorful aioli, and crisp refreshing vegetables with each bite. My fiance got the potato leek soup, which was also delicious. For dessert, we split a dessert crepe with chocolate, which was just perfect. Prices were reasonable, and waitstaff was friendly. We sat at a cute little candlelit table just relaxing and taking in all the wonderful vibes, wishing we could stay here forever. This was my favorite meal in Norway by far, and if you also like good food and "extremely good atmosphere", you will fall in love with it too. read more

For those who are looking for a really cozy and affordable place to eat, then Pygmalion is the right place for you. They have an ecologic menu, the food is delicious and the staff are really nice. The atmosphere is really great, with candles and cozy wall decorations. You really feel like sitting in a living room with a nostalgic setting around you. If the weather is good, they have also an outdoor section with tables and chairs for you to enjoy both your meal and the weather. The menu is as mentioned ecologic, and they have a lot of healthy and delicious choises. You for instance have yourself a delicious rye bread with brie cheese and bacon, or enjoy their awesome burger with home fired potatoes and aoli (which I highly reccomand - this is extreemly good). They also have a lot of desserts, and choosing one of the many crepes is not a bad choise - trust me. The prices are as friendly as you can find on an ecologic restaurant in Norway. I strongly reccoomend to pay a visit to Pygmalion for a food experience you just have to try again. read more

I am a pescetarian and after having enough fish for all three meal in Bergen, I wanted something vegetarian. I asked around and a few shop keepers recommended this store and it was tucked in a street opposite to fish market. I walked around a bit and found the place soon enough. Exterior did not look impressive but i was pleasantly surprised by the options and food i got there. They are an organic cafe and prices are quite reasonable. I got a cappuccino to start my meal and it was delicious. I ordered the vegetarian salad and to my delight, it came with chunks of hot vegetarian protein that really filled me up. I had to cancel my side order :) I finished my meal with a Chilivili - cappuccino w/ chocolate and chilli. It was very interesting creation and I really enjoyed it too. Great meal and quick service. Service was good and fast. Not too friendly but not rude either. I knocked off a star for that... but great place for a vegetarian or anyone else who wants a good meal. read more

I came here for my first meal in Bergen, following the recommendations listed in my Lonely Planet guide. I had their vegetable lasagna which was only okay. I know that Norway in general is not cheap, and Bergen is certainly not an exception to this rule, but I was kind of shocked to see that this only okay lasagna cost me about 20USD. For what it is worth, though, the restaurant is quite cozy and the staff were very polite. They also appear to have some things you can get to go by the front cash registers. I'm not sure if this is the only vegetarian restaurant in Bergen, but perhaps you'd have better luck elsewhere. read more

This is a lovely, quaint place tucked on a picturesque street just off the harbor in Bergen. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming with candles on every table. The music is "putumayo" style and upbeat. It is busy and full. The menu is on the smaller side, but definitely interesting . It advertises itself as a "vegetarian", but they have a beef burger, beef wok and more. The food was VERY tasty. Our table had the beef wok, veggie burger, and the Thai May (vegetable stir fry). All was very good and tasty. The "burger" came with roasted potatoes with aioli that was sooo good . The staff was very nice and helpful. The wine list is small and basic and they offer a few beers and ciders. The desserts are great and there's a good selection of 5-6 different cakes and pancakes. The only downside is that it took a very long time for the food to arrive. I think this may be because they make it to order, but it was a long time. It was a rainy day so we settled in and started looking at the menu and wow everything looked great and vegetarian. We got a the potato leek soup which was just perfect. The lasagna was overly cheesy and the burger had hummus on it which made it too earthy for my tastes.
