I'm lucky that this place is just up the road from my office so any passport or visa photos are easily done. Just tell the photographer what you are applying for - you'll get a quote for the number of photos you'll get and the price. Not only does this place cater to the ppl who don't care to get into the details of photo measurements, the qualities of the photos are really good - compare to the ones you'll get at places like snappy snap. There is proper studio lighting equipment and the best is that the photographer takes a number of photos and lets you chose which one you like the most before it gets printed. There are too many times where you take photos like this and may go... ick. Now, don't ask for 20 retakes but it is okay to ask to retake just a couple more if you'd like. The place could get busy during lunch time so I'd recommend going maybe a little bit before or after.

The owner has an almost eerie, encyclopedic knowledge of visa photo requirements - "India visa? That would be 5 cm by 5 cm, not including white boarder, you'll want to remove your glasses, no smiling..." They're located down the first flight of steps into Charing Cross station. Service was really fast - the whole thing took less than 10 minutes. They have a small studio set up with proper lighting, backdrops and a high-end Nikon digital camera. They do 'professional / business photographs' so if you're looking to upgrade your picture on linkedin to something a bit more professional - since really that old picture of you slightly drunk at a cousin's wedding isn't really sending quite the right message to clients / employers - I'm sure these guys would do a great job. Hands down the best part of this place is that they share a space with a candy store - huge selection of sweets including many hard-to-find American candies. I happily ate an entire box of Mike & Ikes while my pictures were printing. Brilliant.

It's usful for the odd things that you might run out of, but for anything else it is a bit expensive: I find the web the best bet for anything larger. Their photocopying (self-service) is also useful in doing all variants (double-sided, etc) up to A3. I just wish the staff - of whom there seem to be quite a lot for such a small shop - could be more consistently cheerful.
