The Man Hotel

On the lower side there's a stage, a large bar, and a dance floor, whilst on the upper is another bar, a kitchen and dining area and a balcony portion reserved for pool tables (beware, lifties are pool sharks and prey on all visitors(). There's always a cover charge when someone is playing but getting in early or for dinner is free. They make terrific pizzas and pretty amazing chicken wings. Given they have limited competiion in the snow what they offer is a reasonably high standard. Access from Slalom Street is down a short flight of stairs but there are further stairs leading to the street below, giving you a further option. Try not to stay too close to The Man if you prefer quiet as the sound travels.

We had the degustation meal with matching wine and it was one of best dining experiences we have had in Australia. Seafood, pork, beef, native fruits and vegetables with sauces, oils and creams all served with love matching wines from around Australia. Cost per head was $65 for the food and $55 for the matching wine. We splashed out and paid an extra $16 for desert which was up to the standards of the rest of the meal and frankly an indulgence. Our teenage children ate the tartare and asked for more. An amazing find in the snow where you pay over $10 for a hotdog.

The Head Chef, Brian Ritchot is clearly struggling to run an empty restaurant. We had a booking for 24 and when only 19 of us could make it due to ski-related injurys Brian proceeded to charge us for 24 meals costing us an additional $275!!! which were never offered to have even as takeaway as apparently we cost him business (We were litteraly the only people in an otherwise empty restaurant, for the duration of our meal between 6-7:30). At no point was anyone told we needed to call ahead if numbers varied or that if people couldn't attend we would be charged for the whole booking. If we would have known this we would not have eaten at this establishment. Furthermore, He tried to overcharge us for drinks we had already settled and when we tried to dispute this and the gross overcharging he then proceeded to threaten one of our group saying "You'd better hope you don't see me tonight, because I won't be wearing my uniform". If you want an overall terrible experience and to be potentially threatened by an angry chef then please visit Feathertop Restaurant at Falls creek. P.S. all other staff and services at Falls creek has been simply exceptional apart from this Jerk.

Prices are higher than the average low-end bar, but they are also up the top of a mountain so this is understandable. There's also a large open fire in the middle of their space to keep it toasty, and a few pool tables to pass the time indoors. They hare some standard beers on tap, and the kitchen can put together some pretty large burgers as well. Not bad for an afternoon drink in the snow :)
FCCC, Falls Creek Country Club, commands attention as you approach the village on Bogong High…read morePlains Road. It's one of the first buildings you see and with its 6 floors stands tall... in a village full of not-so-tall buildings. It comes with three huge advantages. First, The Gully chairlift runs right next to it. In a good season it doesn't matter so much because you can ski/board down the actual streets right to the rear door of FCCC and step off your board and inside. In a bad season the streets may not be skiable but the run under the chair lift will maintain some snow so that you can at least ski to the low side of FCCC and then just walk up some steps to your digs. Second, whilst you don't have to use the FC oversnow taxi service, it's far easier to pay and go rather than drag all your stuff to your accommodation, but like everything it doesn't come cheap. Because FCCC sits by the main road with a driveway leading to its entry doors you don't need to use oversnow - in fact you can drive right to their door, unpack, then drive your car to the car park afterwards. Third, and still rare in this day and age, they offer free WI-FI which works okay. They have a number of accommodation options, to suit anything from two to 12 people, on the front/balcony side and on the rear, with prices that reflect this as well as creature comforts. There are 2 storage rooms/areas as well as drying cupboards in all apartments. There is a restaurant with quite reasonable food options and a pool/spa/sauna open till 8pm. The apartments are in good condition, although simple and dated, and management quite approachable with any issues. Returning guests get 5% off their rates and for those requiring hire there's a hire shop just a 2 minute walk away at Central Sports.
Clean, modern, reasonably priced motel near the centre of Bright. The quality and friendliness of…read morethe service was excellent. We had booked for two nights (Friday and Saturday) for a weekend of skiing up at Mt Hotham. At check-in, the lady at the front desk gave us very useful information about the road condition and suggested that we may struggle to get back down the mountain if we made it up the Saturday morning - she said if that was the case, that she wouldn't charge us and recommended we take our belongings with us if we decided to make the trip (Mt. Hotham had just been hit with 2 ft of snow and the access roads had been closed for several hours). We took her advice and she turned out to be spot on - we ended up staying in Dinner Plain for our second night. We phoned the Motor Inn and it was not a problem for them. A few days later, I received a receipt in the mail along with a nice hand written note thanking us for our stay. Great, genuine friendly service is hard to beat. Room was spacious and fairly recently renovated and there is a nice pool in the middle of the complex. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced motel in the Bright / Harrietville area.

Only one other couple were present and seemed to be enjoying their meal. Our party of 9 consisted of 4 adults and 5 kids. Inside was quaint and had that 'local' feel that only a good pub has. Meals were delivered super quick and not one was below par with their chips to die for. Staff were amazing and very helpful and happy for a chat. Prices were a little pricey but for what was presented, both food/bevvies & service, it was easy to forgive. The novelty of the Sunday Roast will definitely draw us back.

The cottage was spotless and very well decorated. The Haven is the most private of the 3 with a little patio at the back for BBQ'ing when the weather is warmer. There is a large spa bath located in the bedroom - perfect for relaxing and warming up. My wife and I were highly impressed and have no hesitation in revisiting.
