He had been living in a chicken coop in Ojai and was neglected and abused...it was a very sad situation and Brittany went ABOVE AND BEYOND the call of duty to get this poor boy! She picked him up on a Thursday (around the 1st of December), she then immediately took him to a groomer that very same day as he was in terrible condition. She jumped through many hoops and the very next day she got him neutered and his shots. Over the next few days we were in constant contact via texting and phone calls. Bo had not had any previous training and just within THREE days in her care, he had learned to sit, lie down, high five, heal and even walking through a door with manners. She called me on Monday and asked if I could come get him as he was becoming extremely attached to her. She was concerned that he would "have his heart broken again if she kept him much longer". My fiancé and I went directly to the pet store to purchase Bo a collar, leash, bed etc. when we arrived, her, Bo and I went on a long walk while she helped me learn exactly what she had taught him. We then introduced each of our other three dogs to him, one at a time. She was so professional in every way possible! She loaned us an e-collar and took about four hours out of her busy day with us preparing Bo to come to his forever home! She even went as far as sending us home with special food due to him being on a terrible diet his entire life. We have stayed in total contact regarding how Bo is adapting to his new life...I've sent her tons of e-mails, text messages and videos of Bo showing her how well he's doing, without Brittany and her total love and amazing knowledge of dogs this poor dog would still be living a horrible life! I would refer ANYONE who needs minor to major training issues to her in a heartbeat! I've seen first hand of how she works with dogs and their owners...she is totally dedicated to all of the dogs and their owners that go to her, whether it's for training or day care! We've had Bo for 1 1/2 months and couldn't be more happy, a huge thank you to The Canine Councilor! If I have any questions or issues with ANY of my dogs (I have four), she's more then happy to give me the best advice possible! She took in Bo, did basic training and boarded him for free...he even got to cuddle on her bed. She introduced him to many other dogs, a cat and even kids. I highly recommend her to everyone, I know first hand how credible, responsible and dedicated she is. Thank you for all that you do Brittany, you truly are the best!!! Also, a huge thank you from Bo! He's become such a wonderful part of our family and we are even able to take him to dog friendly restaurants, beaches and dog parks! He's even gotten used to my rescue kitty (10 months old) and "Marley" is used to him...the process went as smooth as possible due to her tips and knowledge of animal behavior. I had previously this morning walked away from another nearby vet clinic…read morehaving made an 8.20am appointment online stating it was for a vaccine booster for my kitten, showing up at 7.50am, waiting for the clinic to open (it did at 8.10am despite in the booking system displaying appointments from 8am) to be informed the vet would be late...a 40 min wait and the nurse who was at the clinic wasn't able to conduct the procedure so I would have to wait. Stuff that. I don't drive (part blind), had caught the bus. On the return bus ride home, drove past this place so got off the bus, walked in without an appointment, explained what happened and these guys looked after me from the get-go. Vaccinated my kitten, asked all the right questions re: eating and toilet habits, gave great care advice and were highly professional. Unbelieveable. Guaranteed return customer here. Won't name-drop the other vet but will leave feedback on this forum for them.

Anyway, the newest addition to the scene, Eight Paws has recently opened on the second floor of glorious department store, BLOC (also home to Citta, Father Rabbit & Tim Webber Design). Previously an online store, you can now get all tactile with wares their prior to purchase, which given the price tag can only be a good thing. They stock a range of different beautifully designed brands from all over the world including Billy Wolf jackets, Cloud 7 Beds, Love Thy Beast & Found My Animal. It's easily the most beautifully curated range of pet products that I've come across both here and in my travels. My favourite item that they sell is their pale green & white peppermint scented poop bags. They're well-priced and most importantly help keep the offensive smells at bay! I also recently bought Lulu a Found My Animal rope colour in royal blue - saaaah fancy!

There are heaps of pet food options - not even that much more expensive than the supermarket, and it's the better quality options as well. Recently I went there and a rep from one of the food companies was there giving out samples and explaining the benefits of that new variety so that was helpful. I've also bought excellent cat toys there. The best one has been the cardboard cat throne. It sits at the end of my desk, and my cat sleep on it all the time (instead of sleeping on my keyboard), and the corrugated cardboard is exciting for her to scratch (instead of the couch) so it's a win all round. Also there's a loyalty program.

You can also actually buy animals here as well - on the back wall there is a whole row of sweet looking puppies and kittens, all either curled up sleeping or jumping around playing with the other pets in their cubicle. There is also a rodent and bird room and an aquarium section, so if dogs or cats aren't your thing and you want something slightly smaller then 4 Seasons have still got you sorted. Some, who take their dogs there every weekend!, and it's quite a drive from down South. We looked at a few other places too, but none had the set up that K9 Heaven does, it's very modern for a country type kennel, it's not really a kennel, we liked the people there and the atmosphere, most of the dogs didn't even look up at us they were that relaxed. We were very impressed with the set up. The staff are lovely & approachable, and there are a number of staff which was very impressive for a kennel. There is no hiding of anything like we'd had experienced in the past, and with a simple appointment we were able to go in, and see the small dog area, and have a good induction of what they get up too. Things that stuck out for us, was workers everywhere, a separate small dog area, not caging of dogs, and a good fun system of events that the dogs big and small all seemed to be very happy with. This place doesn't charge huge amounts for the small things, and every dog is treated as equal, they all get runs out on the dog farm, health checks and everything else. The dogs have an air conditioned house! The owners are lovely, younger than your usual kennel owners, and very welcoming. They are also there 24/7 with the dogs. Some places we've been too in the past are very money orientated, we didn't get that feeling with K9 Heaven. This is not your typical kennel, this place oozed a professional element that as business owners ourselves we were extremely taken aback with for what kennels are, and have been in the past. Well worth the price, we were, after all paying double K9 Heaven's nightly rate, just for a half hour walk from a walking service which we found astounding. Highly recommend, we know our doggies are looking forward to their 2015 January stay!, and just had a great week there recently!!! And our doggies came home smelling like roses!!

He has been here for 2 major operations and had other procedures such as dental work and x-rays done here as well as all the usual check up and vaccinations. The level of both professionalism and empathy that the staff have here is incredible. Our vet KV is the best, she takes such good care of my dog, she saved his life, I completely trust her with Sebastian. As well as the vet services, my dog is a sensitive soul who requires special Hill Diet formulated vet food. When ever we are due to run out the nurse calls us up to remind us to re order. When the food arrives she calls so we get it straight away. Their communication is great too, if you have an animal in their care they are available after hours, they really care about the animals and that is why they are so awesome at what they do.

So 13/01/2018 found me at Mt Eden Pet Doctors (first time I have ever been there) with my little 10…read moreMonth Persian kitten (Nyx) as she has breathing difficulty because of her pushed in nose, and needed a consultation to refer me to a specialist. When I arrived at the vets Nyx was quite distressed from having being taken far out of her comfort zone, not having her brother around didn't help either and with her breathing difficulties it wasn't exactly a great combination and at this point it started stressing me out. There was a little yorkshire terrier puppy in the waiting room too, who had not taken any notice of Nyx (nor Nyx of it) and there was nothing stressful nor any tension between the two. Out of nowhere this vet nurse shows up and snatches my carry-case with Nyx inside and says its no good to have the two in the same room then proceeds to put my cat away in an empty consultation room, and Nyx who was already stressed out at this point began TO ABSOLUTELY LOOSE HER MIND! She was screeching at the top of her voice and thrashing herself around her cage, something I have never ever ever seen her do before. The nurse just closed the door on Nyx and began chatting away with the owner of the puppy not paying any mind to Nyx and her clear distress to the situation. Let me stress once again SHE HAS BREATHING DIFFICULTIES!!!!! I barged in the room and made my presence known to little Nyx (taking her back to the waiting room despite the looks I received from the all knowing vet nurse) and immediately she calmed down, stopped screaming and thrashing around, and tamed it down to a occasional meow of distress. However because of the performance she was left completely unable to breath out of her nose, and was left panting like a dog... drooling and looking absolutely miserable. You'd think they would have had some sense of urgency about getting my cat seen to.... HALF AN HOUR AFTER OUR APPOINTMENT TIME they decide to see Nyx. HALF AN HOUR my baby was left GASPING for breath! The vet proceeded to spend a full 15 minutes (With Nyx still hyperventilating in her carrier) telling me about how terrible I am for owning a Persian, what an unfortunate breed they are, and how in her home country they are banned from advertising with these cats so as to prevent people from buying them. Im not sure why she decided that I was the perfect person to tell this too. I own two of them. And love them like my own flesh and blood. I tell everyone I know that I birthed these babies, and I'm not sure how she expected me to respond but she was greeted stoney silence and a face like thunder. At this point I was well beyond the point of leaving and screeching like a bleeding banchee on my way out whilst protectively clutching my baby to my chest. But I didn't want to have to put Nyx through any of this again. So I was relying heavily on this vet giving me a prognosis and referring me to a specialist. Finally she decided her speech was not going well and it was time to look at Nyx. Nyx stepped out of her carrier on the examination table and started walking towards me, but was rudely stopped by the vet who promptly stopped her in place by shoving her face straight into the table and holding her there. Once again should I mention NYX HAS A BREATHING PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN FLARED UP BECAUSE Of YOUR STAFF AND IGNORED FOR 30MINS, you are smothering her face down, causing her to panic once again!!!Every other vet visit she usually just sits on the table and looks annoyed while the vet pokes and prods, and this lady was being completely unreasonable. She then flicks Nyx's mouth open to look at her teeth. And promptly states "oh well that's no good" "Do you see her inflamed gums, there's a 70% chance she has feline HIV (FIV). There's no cure/treatment and she will eventually die after a few short years. Potentially the specialists might not be able to operate for her breathing condition dependent on the FIV results" She's said that they could test for it, but not today because they don't run tests over the weekend. So we are purely going on speculation over inflamed gums. She Listens to her chest and gasps at how flared up it is, that she can hear how Nyx is absolutely pulling for air (Nothing to do with her treatment while at this place ~sarcasm~) I spent the entirety of yesterday in tears and a state of dismay with thoughts of my babies withering away from a virus attacking their immune system and the terrible way Nyx was treated there. I couldn't say sorry enough to her! (TLDR) If you have a sensitive cat with separation anxiety, and prefer your bad news be delivered to you in a sensitive manner, not 100% based off speculation, without option of further clarification on the matter .... Pet Doctors Mt Eden is not the vet for you! In fact I would not recommend ANY animal be treated by them..
