QPS looked after my pedigree breeding cats (x4) imported from the US. On the second day we went to visit, and the owner was quite rude. Uncaring attitude towards myself, and the owner of the cats who came over fro the US They all required flea treatment by MPI, and we asked Carol which flea treatment. Her reply was 'just the one MPI tell us to use'. We made it aware to Carol, the cats had never been flea'd before, as the fleas are not present within the state they came from. (was way to cold for fleas). She just repeated herself again to me. I asked her if the cat dies due to the flea treatment, who pays. She shrugged her shoulders. On inspection of our cats on the third visit, the cats were cold, and they had two heat pads between 4 cats. Cats were in two pens, the Stud was in one, the queens were in the other. One queen was heavily pregnant. I took pics on my phone of the dust and dirt lying everywhere. I noted the oil heater with spider webs and dust and fur caught in the spiderweb, about 1.5mtrs from my cats. The door when opened, had a very dirt floor on the wings side on the door. The perpex put between the pens appeared to have old glue around it. An open drain laid between the isles of cats. The enclosures were exposed to other cages 1 mar away. Nothing in-between them. We had a Tom Cat 1 mar away from my Tom Cat. Like who does that! An inexperienced person. The owner was cold and heartless to our requests. Even though we said to leave all the girls together, on the 5 day visiting, they had removed the maiden queen from her sibling, and the experienced queen. They raced around when I got there, after they told me this, and put her back. Why I couldn't put her back, is anyones guess. Due to this, Im seriously thinking of putting a quarantine facility on my land in the Waikato. Have thought about it before, have even had MPI here to look at my existing cattery, to tell me what needs to be done to make it a Quarantine Facility. So I do know whats required to make it into a Q/Facility. The biggest cost would be the security fence around the place. So watch this space. read more

During a relocation from Seattle, Washington USA to Nelson, New Zealand, my cat Charlie stayed at QPS for his mandatory, 10-day quarantine. I was happy with the care he received there as the people who run the place provided me with regular updates and photos of Charlie's well-being over email and on the phone (and included pictures). My only concern is I didn't receive everything back that Charlie went to quarantine with (an orthopedic cat cushion, a cat bed, and a fleece blanket). I'm not quite sure why? read more

Fantastic work! QPS was extremely helpful in bringing my dog to NZ from Hawai'i. They were always available to help, and answered all my questions. They sent me photo updates, and helped guide me through the import documents. My dog did lose a lot of weight in quarantine, but I think that is just because of anxiety. They even tried mixing in tinned meat with her food! Extremely considerate and hardworking people, I couldn't recommend them more. A+++++ read more

Qualfied Pet services was used as I had used them before bringing my first animal from the mainland USA in 1998, and they had not been open that long. Move ahead to 2017, and my second lovely Basset Hound arrived in January of 2017. Not being in Auckland and being in Nelson, I waited for Qualified to take my dog from their place back to airport to be flown down here to Nelson. This was done, but when my dog arrived at airport, she was sitting on a old towel that they had thrown down, and worse yet, her eyes were almost glued shut from a thick blue substance which I can only say accumulated over the 10 day quarantine. You would think someone would have attempted to clean her eyes but they did not. I have never seen anything like this in my life and it was heart wrenching! I contacted qualified and spoke to the lady Carol and asked about the thick expensive rug that was placed in her kennel. She told me that they had to destroy all materials in the kennel which was NEVER mentioned to me or MPI(the NZ government authority). You can also see the comment below regarding this. This is unacceptable at best. When I mentioned the expensive rug and my dogs eyes almost glued shut, the woman told me that I was getting defensive and she literally hung up on me! I sent an email to another head worker and she mainly spoke down to me by email as some stupid child who knows nothing! I could write a book on shipping your animal overseas. Unfortunately, you have two options if your animal arrives in Auckland, and this is controlled by MPI as the ONLY two available. Qualified has become the main one really for Auckland and they have grown large, fat with cash, and SLOPPY in their handling of animals, and it is just a large animal mill in and out! I was vert displeased with their services. Thankfully, last animal to ever bring into NZ. Its really a nightmare bringing animals into this country from the USA so be aware! read more

My dog went to quarantine at QPS and I was very unhappy. I arrived 7 days after him and when I visited him from the airport found him in a row of kennels that were not much better than concrete bunkers with a view only onto a sheet of plastic, left with no toys and on enquiring on the schedule of play/ interaction with staff was told by manager there wasn't one as too much trouble to change the coats between each dog. It was no better than solitary confinement which is the last thing a stressed dog needs. .My dog also lost a claw and was given no antibiotics or pain relief. He left quarantine with an infection and diahorrea requiring vetinerary treatment two days later. I had to ask repeatedly for photos and got one - eventually. Don't even mention the administration inefficiencies. Put in complaint with MPI which was taken up by them. Appalling place - only in it for the money. Should be shut down. Paid under protest as they would not release my dog otherwise. Put in complaint and didn't even get a response. Says it all. read more
