Bottom line up front - work fine, service and professionalism, terrible. Barely a three star. On the plus side, the work done was fine and the convenience of having them pick up my lawn tractor for a reasonable price is great. In the past that would have been the end of the story and a 5 star rating. This time, however, the way business was conducted was not good. First the driver was several hours out of the window to pick up my machine. A quick phone call would have made that fine, I get that schedules get blown up all the time, just let me know when you are running behind. Then the drive picked up the machine without letting us know. Looked out the window and no lawn tractor. Took about 2-3 days to get a response to my messages so I knew that Quality and not some random thief had my tractor. Then the drop off was unannounced, just looked out and saw my tractor. No key. A month and a half later, I'm still waiting for my key. The only communication after the drop off was a bill that showed up a month and a half after the service saying that my account was over 30 days. Hard to pay a bill that you never got. If the driver had checked when dropping off, I'd have gladly paid on the spot. Now they seem to think I'm some kind of deadbeat. Plus, there doesn't appear to be any way to pay on line, so I have to go through the hassle of writing and mailing a check and they have to wait on USPS to deliver, when and if they get around to it. read more

I checked the reviews before I went to buy my Stihl BR450 Blower. I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, but I'm old enough to walk out of a business that doesn't give good sales service. I was really pleased when Ed stopped what he was doing as soon as I walked in the door and began waiting on me. The sales service was 110% and the whole staff was exceptionally friendly. The blower was already assembled (thank God!) and I was shown exactly how to use it and keep it up. I wish every business I shop showed the same amount of knowledge about their products and the friendliness involved in a sale as Quality Equipment on Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd. near the South Square area in Durham!! Ok, if your looking for a new tractor, saw, or utv your in luck they are great for that. If you need something fixed I don't know if they are any good or not. But, if you need parts for your tractor your in trouble, if it's not in the computer they can not or will not match it. We have needed parts several times for various john deere implements, gator 430 lawn , and a 4600 compact tractor out of the 5 times they have only got it right 2 times. This is not encouraging. I am going to look for another place to get our parts even if it's online and we have to wait for shipping. Yes that bad, three times out of five people this is horrible. All this said though you will notice they are not a one star. They are nice they have a great sales floor and some good deals. I had a terrible experience here. The aluminum casing of my new lawn mower (only had it for a month) broke while I was mowing along my flat yard. Took it in to Quality Equipment because I had to use a honda dealer to qualify for the warranty. I told my more engine savvy friend about my situation and he said that the entire engine would need to be replaced, and that I should call to confirm that they understood that I wanted it to be covered by the warranty and did not want to be surprised with a massive bill. It was a good thing that I called because Sam in the service department insisted that my lawn mower "told him a story" of my severely damaging it, by ramming it under a deck or hitting it with the car, and I would not get a dime out of the warranty. After we pointed out that the plastic casing was in perfect condition and those two facts together indicate a manufacturer's defect, he said "that's your opinion" and would not budge. Ended up taking my lawn mower back to look for a better honda dealer, despite Sam's statement that "we won't find any honda dealer who will qualify that under warranty." I will never go back to Quality Equipment LLC and will tell everyone I know likewise. read more

I recently purchased a Z 930 mower and a 20" post hole auger for my 5065E tractor. I am extremely pleased with both. The auger was shipped disassembled, but the Sales Manager Jason Jarret and one of the technicians assembled it for me, right on my trailer... The folks at the front counter are spot on and knowledgeable of their products which makes running in to get oil, parts, filters etc. quick and easy. Barnhill Equipment is a dishonest repair shop for small engines and equipment. We brought in our John Deere riding lawn mower for routine maintenance and we picked it up and got stuck with a bill for almost $500!!! 85% of the service they did was NOT APPROVED by us in advance. They just did it and stuck us with the bill. This is a typical service-type scam and the people are rude and defensive. Please don't allow them to steal your hard earned money. I visited Jason Jarrett in mid-Feb 2018 to get a quote on a 3025E Tractor -loader-box blade-I-match quck-hitch and rear-tire ballast. I got my quote, which included all discounts as I had read on Deere.com. I then advised Jason I would be ready to purchase in mid-March during their Drive Green Event. I purchased my equipment on the day of the event as planned; so I earned the $500 event discount. After the equipment set-up, and an unexpected service delay, My equipment package was delivered a week later. Jason has called me twice to follow-up on my after-the-sale experience. Quality Equipment is the "new" John Deere dealer in Durham. Jason and his crew deserve a chance and will work hard to earn your business and your trust! read more

Yes, some of you have great experiences here, but not me. 4 out of 5 visits, it seems like it's a real chore to wait on me. They rather have 10 min personal conversations rather than wait on someone ready to unload some cash on new equipment. I only had a few min to spare on my lunch break and knew exactly what I wanted. And yes, they saw me waiting patiently. Oh well, I will take my business elsewhere. Quality in Roxboro really knows customer service, not this place. I will drive the extra distance as long as they are open. Yes, the Durham location has a shiny new store, but the same uncaring attitudes. Sad really. One star because zero stars is not an option. Never again will I be sucked into this store. For those who love being serviced by former Tractor Supply employees, rock on. read more

This is probably the worst business I have ever had to deal with in my life. Everyone in the store is an asshole and very rude. They overcharge and could care less. I called and ask how much it would cost to get my tractor serviced and checked. They said the cost would be $200. When I went to pick it up they charged me $270. They said the extra charge was labor fee. When I said to them...you should have told me about the $70 dollar service fee when I called and asked what the overall cost for the service was. The clerk replied and said" if you want your fucking tractor back...it will be $270! I called an reported them to the John Deere company headquarters but never heard a word back. I also reported them the BBB Stay way from Barnhill. They will fuck you. read more

The customer service at this business is very POOR. Regardless of their so called "swamped" workload, there is no excuse for the way they address their customers needs and expectations. A simple chain sharpening that was promised in 2 days is still not completed, or even begun, after 4 days. Their explanation was, "We just work these in between our other orders". Management needs to better train their employees in dealing with the public, and address their workload, order scheduling and completion processes. Don't give the customers false expectations and they will have happier customers. I don't think I will buy my next Stile product from Barnhill Equipment Co. read more

Recently brought my ten (?) year old honda mower for service and left a $61.28 deposit (50%). Knew the transmission was not operating correctly. Got a call about a week later saying that the front bottom plate was broken and it would be $300 to repair. I told them not to bother and was told that the $61.28 was a sunk cost. When I picked it up, I noticed that on the receipt for the $61.28 that $15 of it was for "parts," i.e. Environmental Fee and Service Accessories. Now I'm not a mechanic, but I know that when you don't do any work on a machine, there are not parts or accessories, and since the oil wasn't changed, there was no Environmental impact. I asked about it and was told that this $15 is shared by everyone, regardless of the work done. That doesn't seem right to me; this is a for-profit business, not a socialistic enterprise. While they seem to know their equipment, they also seem to nickel and dime you. Won't be going back to them. read more

I honestly don't know what some people experience (based on some of the reviews here) because every time I've gone to Barnhill for purchases or service over the past 5 years (about a dozen times), they've been great. Just this past weekend I took in my Stihl blower for service because it wouldn't start. The counter salesman asked what it was doing, had it been stored for a long time, etc., then said he'd go look it over. He came back in 5 minutes saying it worked fine for him! I must've flooded it the day before. I thanked him and then asked how much a general tune-up would be because it's an older blower that's never been serviced. He suggested that I may not want to do that because a new blower is about $150 and the hourly shop rate is $85, so it's not worth it! I mean, they could've taken it in for repairs at $85/hour but they didn't, and then they could've accepted it for service but they didn't. The counter salesman was knowledgeable, helpful, honest, and friendly. And he saved me a bunch of money I otherwise would've wasted. What more can you ask for? :-) read more
