We were asked if we were there for a tasting and we enthusiastically stated we were there for pizza. We were met with "oh the girl who does pizza called in sick today." Try to imagine the level of disappointment. I asked if there was anyone else that could make a pizza, as it seemed strange to me that only one person could make pizza and that if this person called in sick, the entire pizza operation shuts down. But it would seem this is the way it is. Again, sheer disappointment. Please do better.

It was PACKED when we arrived & we ended up sitting at the bar where they make the pizza, then migrating to a table as it cleared out. We ordered the charcuterie, which had apples, cherries, a couple slices of bread, a red pepper jelly & 3 small-ish slices of cheese. They included their blue cheese, brie and whatever the 'gold' cheese is. We'd seen prosciutto on their boards on instagram and were really bummed that there wasn't a meat included on the board. While the gold cheese was our favourite, the rest of it was honestly underwhelming for $29, which was a bummer considering it's why we chose this place. However, we also ordered a pizza at the suggestion of our server -- just a margarita pizza, plus added proscuitto which was PHENOMENAL! My boyfriend lived in Italy for a year & said it's the closest to authentic Italian pizza he has found since living there in 2017! My partner enjoyed the Merlot, while I drank the Chardonnay -- the Chardonnay is hands down the best I've ever tried. Honestly, I regret not buying more than 1 bottle! The service was prompt, our server was friendly & checked in with us a few times. He made great suggestions & ensured we were well taken care of. Overall, we'd go back even if just for pizza alone next time we're in Penticton or passing through -- but wouldn't make the 1hr drive from Osoyoos just for the charcuterie! Lol.

There is a Pepperoni Wall of Fame that you can get your picture taken at and you will have bragging rights to all your friends. The only problem with sharing this stuff is then more people know about this hidden gem, and any time you travel past it to Osoyoos or Kelowna, or Nelson, or wherever... your friends will irrationally demand that you stop and get them $40 worth of meat. There are so many more flavors than just raspberry and blueberry, and more jams than I could count. When we visited we were stunned for a moment when we walked in, and we shopped for a long time. Along with all the fruit-flavored goodies there are so may cute home items and decor to look at, as well as ice cream (there was a busy line for this while we were shopping). Summerland Sweets is in the middle of a number of wineries and made for a great break from wine tasting (including wonderful clean public washrooms). This is now a mandatory stop when we visit the Summerland area, and my only regret is not going home with one of the 4L jugs of syrup!

We toured the area this time and bumped into Summerland sweets. What a great find! We walked in and found shelves and shelves of jam, fruit candies, pottery, fruit wines, and an ice cream counter in the back. Our group of 10 all stopped for an ice cream and we were so glad we did! They offer two types of cones and a bunch of different flavors of ice cream. The standard scoop is HUGE. The ice cream prices are very cheap (see photo) and the scoops are generous. The girls working the counter are very friendly and were super nice with our 4 seniors (all over age 85) who were trying to decide what to get. The cherry ice cream was a huge hit! There is also a wine tasting room where they serve fruit wines. The colors are beautiful and the wine tasting is free. We ended up with some fruit flavored candy for my husband to bring back to work (in Houston). We don't do a lot of touristy type things when we go to the Okanagan, so this was a wonderful place to stop, close to where we were staying. I highly recommend Summerland Sweets for a quick stop for ice cream, wine tasting, and gift shopping. If you love maple syrup or fruit syrup they sell that too!

They also have a customer washroom, play area outside for children, and a cute little goat named Jimmy who waits for you to sneak him some fresh grass through the cage. Thanks to her trip, we received a 'sampling' of tasty treats -- liverwurst, weisswurst, and European wieners. The gifted offering was directed primarily to her Mom -- definitely the one who knows, and is able to really savour the distinctive flavours of these kinds of meats. And she sure did. I managed to target the weisswurst, and ensured we enjoyed a meal together with this sausage. It is a sausage favourite of mine, and I really enjoyed their product - creamy in texture, and rather 'lighter' in flavour. I could enjoy that sausage often, and in so many ways. At this time, that included one taste of sweet & savory, open-faced sandwiches -- made with slices of weisswurst sausage on cinnamon rolls -- tried before the sausage was gone.
