This was the most horrifying experience I have ever had at a hotel. I called a month in advance to reserve a room here since I'm moving to Quesnel from Vancouver and was told I was booked in under my name and didn't need a reservation number.
The first night here, we were getting ready for bed and a strange man walked right into the room. Apparently the front desk had given our room to someone else as well, so the man walked in with a key and everything. It was absolutely terrifying!
A week after I checked in, I was told that they actually didn't have a room available for an entire month, that I'd need to leave on the 23rd even though I'd phoned a month before and reserved until the 31st. I called the head office for Quality Inn and they were able to make a reservation for me for this same hotel for the 23rd-30th, so someone was obviously lying to me. At that time, I also filed a complaint about the man walking into my room and the fact they'd reserved me and then told me I had to leave early.
After making this reservation, the owner of the hotel came to my room, and silly me, expecting an apology for the mix up! She said we hadn't signed any paperwork, so we had to leave today. I said they'd told me I could stay until the 23rd, and she asked if I had a confirmation number. I said I'd been told I didn't need one, that everything was reserved under my name. She said without a confirmation number, there was no paperwork, so I couldn't stay. At which point I was utterly stunned that any hotel would do this to a guest, first to tell me I couldn't stay the full length of the reservation and then telling me to leave today (I have the strong impression she wanted me to leave because I'd filed a complaint).
I called the head office for Quality Inn and they were shockingly blase about the whole thing. They said there was nothing they could do since I didn't have a confirmation number and I'd have to leave the hotel today.
I will admit I was pretty angry when I spoke to the front desk about the situation, but I wasn't threatening or screaming. I was terrified because I'm in a town known for its high crime rate, a single woman living alone, and they're telling me I'll have to live in my car for a week initially, and had to find another hotel today because I'd dared complain what has been going on.
Both the situation at the hotel itself and the interaction with head office have left me utterly speechless. I know this is a small town and the dynamics are different than in a place like Vancouver, but it's shocking that any business is OK with treating customers like this and leaving a single woman stranded in an unfamiliar (dangerous) town with nowhere to go. read more
