Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kincardine - Downtown

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Kincardine - Downtown

My husband and I stayed at this hotel August 19-21 for a family wedding in Kincardine…read more We arrived a bit early for check in, but were pleasantly surprised to be able to check in ahead of the regular 3pm. The lady at the desk (I believe her nametag said Kelly...?) was very nice. Our room was on the top floor, which is always a bonus when you don't have anyone above you. We were far enough away from the elevators to not be disturbed by the sounds and foot traffic in the halls. The room was spacious and clean. One of the main reasons we booked with this location (and not the hotel that the bride set up a block with for wedding guests,) is that we got a king room with mini fridge, microwave and coffee/tea fixings for the same rate as a queen room with no small appliances. Easy choice! Parking was free at this location which is a welcomed change as most places charge a nightly fee for parking. The added bonus of having Tim Hortons, McDonalds, Boston Pizza, Sobeys grocery and Shoppers Drug Mart all within walking distance allowed us to keep the car parked all weekend. Breakfast was included each morning, which is another reason we chose this hotel. I was expecting a generic continental breakfast but was once again pleasantly surprised when we were told it was a hot buffet; eggs, sausage, potato wedges, toast/bagels, pancakes (with a cool machine that prepares them!) and assorted cereals, fruits and yogurt. The lady running the breakfast was cheerful and on top of refilling items and assisting guests when they needed it. The food was great and a large cafe type room to eat in gave plenty of space. We enjoyed some time in the hotel pool to blow off some steam from being in the car for a 3 hour drive. Pool is small and not too deep- 5 feet at the deepest. Unfortunately the jacuzzi was out of order but still managed to get some exercise by swimming a few laps. Towels were provided at the pool which was nice as we forgot to bring. The only reason this hotel did not get a full 5 stars is due to housekeeping not visiting our room at all during our stay. We didn't need fresh towels and are fine making our own beds, but our garbage and recycling bins filled up from two nights of eating out. I hated feeling like I was leaving a pile of trash upon departure, and would have preferred the bins be emptied each day. All in all, very pleased with our stay at this hotel. Would recommend it to others, and would certainly stay here again if I ever needed lodging in Kincardine.

The free breakfast was so delicious. I was so happy with our stay that I had to speak to the manager and let her know how pleased we were with their staff and hotel. I will definitely be going back next year. Can't wait to see all their friendly faces again.

Braemar Cabins - One of two bedrooms

I think this was one of the most comfortable non-hotel experience I've ever had. Not exactly a…read morecottage and far from a camping experience, the cabins here are built for a short or a long term stay in the heart of Port Elgin. Its steps away from the main beach (about 15 min walk) and a short drive from the town. Its relaxing here. Not sure what to expect, when we got here its in the middle of a residential area. Basically a big house (the owners) and small cabins surrounding the rest of the lot (4). I thought it was weird, but noticed some other neighhbours had this setup as well. Turns out the whole area was cabins and small cottages, with a lot more trees, but recently had been torn down to make way for large homes. The cabin was small but really cozy. You don't need more than this. 2 bedrooms, kitchenette with sink, microwave, hot stove, big fridge, coffee maker (but bring your own coffee and filters) and lots of dishes and utensils. There a flush toilet (key!), sofa, small eat-in area, your own bbq and 2 muskoka chairs on the porch. In the morning, we ate brekkie and watched the owners 2 kids play around in the sandbox and swings. In the evening, we made our bbq and ate it outside while I held a fly swatter at intruders. In the evening, the owners started a bonfire and we shared beers and good conversation. The bedrooms are comfy with ample blankets provided, also a heater for colder nights. There's also two showers (bonus!) On the right side of the main house. Most importantly the cabin and facilities was CLEAN. As princessy as I am, the place exceeded my expectations for these kinds of things. And rightly so, the owner Krissy prides herself in this and maintains each cabin as If it were her own. If she wouldn't stay there, neither will you. At $90 a night, it was easy to book at their email braemarcabins@gmail.com

Room had a small fridge, microwave, and single cup coffee maker. Perfect location for the region of touring. Across from McDonalds and Walmart and other shops. I accidentally left a bag of souvenirs and the manager Hammit was kind enough to mail it to me. They went above and beyond. So, you pay less, you get less, but most importantly to me is that it was all very clean. After all, we only slept there. We were out all day.

Paid for an upgrade to have WiFi in our room only to find we were too far away to connect. We drove 8 hours to the area to fish and had a lot of gear ~ so opted to not change rooms. I was asked to come to the front dest to get the cable required for the Internet, which left my mouth a little dry. Breakfast isn't included, and neither is coffee to hotel guests during hours the cafe was open. We paid 85.00/night in the off season and they don't even throw in a coffee? I also went to use the hot tub, but they rented out the pool to a group of senior citizens. I would not recommend this hotel. I am wishing we paid the couple of extra dollars and stayed at the Super 8.

The…read moreBest Western was by far the least sketchy place to stay here, as a lot of the other lodging we looked at were older motels. At least Best Western does have the name behind it. They have one EV plug in here that is free to use but slower for charging. The guy that checked us into the hotel didn't really seem all there. This hotel is dog friendly and we had 2 pooches with us. It seems like they put most of the dogs on the first floor. The lobby had a microwave out there for common use and free coffee was laid out here in the morning. They have a restaurant here called Bishop's Landing that does all meals. As for the room, it was comfortable. It definitely could have been cleaner. There were rogue hairs everywhere in the bathroom, particularly the shower. For example, there were ones under the bathmat that waved hello as the water ran under it. The hotel is located right next to the marina and there are paths that you can take for a scenic stroll at sunset. Not the best stay but for one night, this would probably still be my go to place to stay in Owen Sound.

Instead of coming to me and asking me about the situation or trying to resolve any issue they terminated me at once without any cause. I found this extremely frustrating and unprofessional as well as them knowing I had already left my previous employment.
