I've never had shoes repaired before. Normally, I just throw shoes out once the heel tips get worn. Well, in recent years, I've spent more money on my shoes and it's harder to throw out an expensive pair of heels. I hopped on Yelp and found this place. It had good reviews and wasn't too fair so I decided to check them out. My husband dropped off a pair of shoes for me on Thursday. They were a black pair of heels that I love, but the tips on the heels has worn so when I tried to wear them, the metal obnoxiously made a lot of noise with each step and they were not easy to walk in because the heel had worn unevenly. The heels were ready on Friday. They looked so much better. Instead of having to replace the heels, I paid $11 to have the heel renewed. (It would have been $10 if I had brought cash, but I used a card so it cost $1 extra.) I had another pair of heels that were kind of jacked up because the tips had worn. These heels also have scuff marks on them. I dropped those off Friday and he said they'd be ready by Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll post an after picture of them. Oh...the business has a new address. This is probably my favorite shoe cobbler. I came in with 2 pair of Sam Edelman Penny 2 "wide calf" boots. Of course the makers wide calf isn't really wide calf. I asked if he could expand the calf so I can have leather boots for the winter. He looked at the boots and asked me to try them on. He brought out his measuring tape and got to work. I was a little nervous but He assured me he could add leather to them and make them fit my calves. A week and a half later, I had my bought a and they fit perfectly. I couldn't have been any happier. I was referred to this place by a coworker who wears heels literally every single day and frequents this place to have her taps repaired. I wish I'd taken her advice to see these guys sooner!! I had 3 pairs of heels that had broken taps and some heavy scuffing. I only asked to have the taps replaced, as I assumed that the scuffing was too bad to have fixed. The guy charged me $24 to have all three of my heels repaired, which was a heck of a lot less than I'd planned on spending. That gives for a solid 3-stars, alone! I notified them that my last day at UAB would be the following Friday, and asked when they could have them done. He told me to check that Thursday. When I called, they were done, as scheduled. I arrived at the store on Friday (my last day) and a friendly girl at the front checkout helped me after she helped the lady in front of me. My time at pickup was less than 5 minutes with no complications. Once I got walked back to work, I opened the bags that my shoes had been stored in, and the taps were fixed and the scuffs were miraculously gone! They'd also polished and shined my shoes, which I didn't even ask for. I was so pleasantly surprised. If you ever need your shoes repaired, please stop by and patronize these kind people! I was packing Jan 3rd for a flight the next morning down to Birmingham for an interview on the 5th. I discovered that my dress shoes were covered in a gray film that defied all my attempts to remove. The insult was no doubt from my walk home on New Year's Eve, but I had no idea what I was up against. Only that it wasn't your run of the mill shoe dirt. I was resigned to the conclusion that my shoes would need professional help and upon my landing in the great state of Alabama I went out and found Richard at Quality Shoe Repair. He was unfazed by my descriptions of super-dirt on my shoes and had me hop up so he could start working. His brow quickly furrowed as he realized that this was life or death - him or the dirt - and he worked furiously, stopping only to ask something along the lines of, 'no really, what is this.' 15 minutes later the dirt had yielded to the arcane solvents and other magic at Richard's disposal and my shoes were rescued. I checked the yelp before I took my back pack to this place. All they needed to do was to replace a small zipper. It was 2 weeks before Christmas, I called them beforehand and they told me, they accepted bags only on Mondays. I went there that Monday and they told me it would be ready by December 28th. I went there and they told me it wasn't ready, they would call me when it's ready. I didn't hear from them for a week so I stopped by and they told me they were working on it. I called them 2 weeks later and they told me the same thing and they said it would be ready at the end of the following week. Few more calls and the same story, 2 months after I dropped the bag off, I had to go and pick it up because I was tired of hearing the same excuses. I tried a couple of other shoe repair places downtown who were unable to even lighten the stains despite "giving it everything we had". I had given up and my friend told me about this place. After reading the reveiws I took 2 pairs of shoes in for repairs. One pair needed to have the tip of the heels fixed and the other pair need the heel cut down from a 3 1/4" to 21/2". I brought them in on a Saturday and they were ready on Tuesday. The quality of workmanship, skill, customer service and prices exceeded my expectations. The cost for repairing both pairs of shoes was only $20. The shoes feel great on my feet, it's as though I went out and brought brand new shoes.
