Easy access hype This Gorge is easily accessible from the road and worth stopping for a few minutes. It is not a destination worthy but provides a scenic rest stop on your way to elsewhere. Many road trippers and tourist traps are here. There are about 20-30 parking spots near the East side of the bridge. There is an info board and a trailhead at the parking lot. The trail meanders below the road bridge to the Quechee Gorge. This summer (9/25) has been quite dry, so not big cascades but better views into the Gorge can be had. There's a big construction going ON the bridge so there was some traffic (yup). The construction probably will be completed before the winter. PSA - The best vista to this Gorge is actually from the bridge which is a very short walk from the parking lot. read more

This place has always been a home for me . Home away from home . It is cost efficient due to the high hotel rates these days . I remember when a hotel stay would be less than 100.00 a night with amenities. Anyways, this campground is close to work, entrainment and many food choices. It is clean and well managed with a friendly and competent staff. I never felt unsafe or financially cheated. This will always be my go to spot ! Thank you Quechee ! read more

Beautiful and chaotic is how I'd describe visiting the Gorge. It's definitely a site worth visiting- the gorge is dramatic - it's Vermont's deepest gorge at 165 feet! But it's incredibly popular with locals and tourists alike and bus after bus of visitors came and went during my short time there. To see the gorge from above, the best views are from the bridge by the gift shop (possibly the only views from above). But it's fenced and you can only get clear views from the little holes in the fence they've added - so it's not unobstructed - and this is where it gets crazy crowded. There's also a small trail next to tue gift shop and bridge - it's just over 1/4 mile and takes you to the Quechee Gorge Dam - it has a beautiful waterfall and some nice views - well worth the little walk - but there aren't any gorge views from this trail. It's a well maintained trail, mostly flat apart from some stairs at the entrance and there's some picnic tables and benches along the way. There's a visitor center a short way down from the gift shop with very limited parking but it's walkable from the larger lot at the gift shop. The gift shop has food but it's super crowded. The visitor center also has a small gift shop and info on the area. There appeared to be another trail next to the visitor center that takes you down into the gorge, closer to the bottom, but it was so crowded that I decided to skip it. I visited in early October which is one of the busy seasons - it was so crazy crowded I almost didn't stop but I'm glad I got to see it. It was free to park and walk around. read more

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this, but we took a walk through the visitor center at the bridge that is under construction in Quechee on Rte 4. Something to do when in Vermont. It's a short little hike. We didn't go in time for the fall leaves. Everything was still green and vibrant and beautiful! At the bottom of the gorge, you can go down into the river. The hike is super easy, like a stroll. The welcome center has bathrooms, water for purchase, some maps and touristy things. My first visit here was for a week-long stay and I had a great time. This location is a good base from which to explore Vermont, we drove southwest to some cute towns and north to Burlington. Closer to the campground, quechee gorge was a great swimming hole, we went via the visitor's center to have a little easier hike down to the gorge. The Quechee Country store has all the cheddar you need as well as VT craft beer, maple syrup, ect..... I also recommend driving a short distance to the town of Woodstock which is so pretty. In terms of the details of the campground, the rangers are nice and the facilities well maintained and clean. The sites are not very big but definitely enough room for 1 car and 1-2 tents per site. Everyone respects quiet hours and were pretty quiet overall. You can buy wood ($6) and ice ($3 for 10lbs) at the ranger station during the day, but the wood comes loose so it would be good to have a big ikea bag or something to hold the wood in your trunk. Throughout the campsite there are a lot of jack pines which have a lot of sap and can get your gear a little messy. Make sure to bring a brush to clear fallen pine needles. Another nuisance were daddy long legs spiders, there are a million here! Lastly, almost everyone here had a dog with them so if you mind dogs barking or dogs in general, this ain't the campsite for you! read more

This place is such a joy to visit. The hike is relatively short and easy but it is uphill when you are returning for 5-10 min. At the bottom, you can get a view of the rocks water, and the bridge. Don't miss out on the cute fall leaves you find in October. When we finished the short hike we walked over to the bridge and took photos from above. Made a pit stop here after leaving Woodstock VT en route to Dartmouth. So glad we did! Decided on doing the short and sweet hike from the visitors center to the bottom of the gorge. Weather was a little sprinkley but it didn't stop us. Highly recommend going to the bottom and then coming back up to the top of the bridge. A few spots of incline, but nothing too crazy. Trail is visible and well kept. Loved walking across the rocks at the bottom. read more

"Vermont's Little Grand Canyon" isn't anything close to Arizona's Grand Canyon in terms of beauty, but it's a nice 1 ish hour stop, which includes a super small gift shop and restrooms. The hike down and up should take you about 20-25 minutes. It's a relatively slow incline and the path is wide. read more

There isn't much I need to say to convince you to come here. The Niagara Falls of Vermont is what my girlfriend told me this place is called and I believe it! The walk down to the bottom from the visitor center is easy; the walk back up to the visitor center isn't so easy but it's completely worth it and there are benches every 100 feet or so for resting. The view from the bottom is stunning. The whole thing is free too and there's a great gift shop in the visitors center. The center closes at 5pm but the gorge is open until sunset! read more

Stopped here on our way from New Hampshire to Lake Champlain, and being told it was the Grand Canyon of the east, I was fine with seeing what was cooking. What I liked about this was it was absolutely free. There was no charge to park, no park fee, nothing. We pulled up, walked down the trail, crossed the bridge and took photos, and then even walked to the dam and snapped some photos as well. The air was great there - really crisp and felt good running thru my chest bags. I would recommend stopping here on the way somewhere else - but there's not much other than photos and a walk. read more

This place is neat. I was skeptical at first but what makes this gorge way more fun than others I have been to elsewhere is that you can hike down to the inside and hang out on the rocks. The atmosphere down there is very festive, people climbing around carefully as the water slurps past. It's absolutely lovely down there. Might not be a bad idea to pack a lunch so you can stay as long as you want, if that's your thing. Some people had bathing suits although when I was there the weather wasn't my preferred dip-temperature, being a Florida girl... The hike itself isn't too stressful as long as you're in good walking shape. read more

This will also be a quick review regarding this hike. The trail is very cute. It's not hard. It's a very straight path with a fence on the side so you can hike and not get lost. As you hike, the trees are changing colors which made it pretty. When we got past the green bridge, you can start to see the gorge easier. When we hiked to the bottom, we got some cool pics of the gorge, the water and rocks as well as the green bridge that runs across. We did the tourist thing and took pictures at the bottom as people got in our way. We then hiked to the pond which has a pretty water fall attached to it. It's not a hard trail and meant for more it's beauty then anything else. read more

Vermont is a spectacularly beautiful state overall so temper your expectations of what Quechee will be in your mind. The trail itself has minimal viewing areas of the gorge itself. This is due to the chain link fence that follows the trail from top to bottom. At the top of the trail gives a better viewing area but doesn't show the gorge but a small waterfall over a dam. The trail itself is easy to walk even for the not so svelte folks like myself. Will you see anything on the trail itself, not much that is mind blowing but it's good exercise. The best views are on the bridge itself, that is where you get the best views of the gorge from both directions. The trail is free so it's hard to complain but there just isn't much to see as stated above.. Worth seeing if you are in the area, but not if you are traveling a far distance. read more

We walked along the Quechee Gorge Trail to see the gorge from a birds eye view and than to visit the bottom of the Gorge. Everything was so pretty and we dared walking on the rocks when we got to the bottom of the gorge. I love anything foresty and although this trail was on the tiny side for me it was worth seeing. read more

Thee gorge itself is amazing and if you have time you will want to take a short walk on one or several of the trails offered!! One of nature's wonders. Unfortunately we visited during the winter and were not able to hike the trails nor even make our way down. Pros: spacious campsites, VERY good firewood. Neutrals: no hook-up's but there is a dump station & u can run a generator twice/daily for 2 hours each time. Cons: showers in both bath-houses are useless! Don't waste your quarters. VERY low water pressure, only 1 hook in 1 of the showers (we tried 4 out of 6 total showers in the week we stayed), and each one could've used a cleaning. Also-bathrooms do not seem to get cleaned daily. Last: the steep trail down to the gorge is clearly not maintained so a word to the wise. read more

Gorgeous view of the Grand Canyon of the East and a plentiful set of walking trails makes this a great place to stop! Once you've had your exercise and gotten some of that fresh air you can check out the gift shop next to it, or drive less than a quarter of a mile down the road to check out some shopping options. read more

Have stayed here for many years and have never been treated so rudely by the guy at the check in. Alway been allowed to check in at 1:00. told him this he bluntly said nope check in at 2:00 you will have to leave and come back. Which with a 30 ft camper isn't easy. we had to drive they the park to get out. Stopped by our site which was vacant and cleaned but still had to leave until 2:00. we visit Vermont state parks regularly but are seriously considering going to not visit them again if they allow staff lien this to be employed. read more

Superb Spring visit to Quechee Gorge. We were thinking about going skiing as the morning started frosty and sunny. Then the weather turned warm and beautiful. The ski plans were shelved and we walked the beautiful town of Woodstock, then stopped by Quechee Gorge's visitor center and it was open. So we went hiking instead. With absolutely beautiful weather, cool temperatures and a dry trail, we hiked three miles to both the Southernmost part and then backtracked to the visitor center and then north to Dewey's Pond and took pictures of the 2 Megawatt Hydroelectric plant that was running at full capacity. Walked up the river to a quiet spot where Tango, my awesome Black Lab, could go for a swim. Then we came back to one of the many picnic tables to enjoy our prepared lunches, augmented by a quick trip to the Cabot store to pick up some awesome cheese and chocolate. The only unattractive part of the trail is the safety galvanized fence to keep people away from the cliff. Should there be a rebuild, it should be substituted with a more attractive barrier. Undoubtedly the fence is needed as the cliff is quite dangerous, it could be made more into something that blends with the environment instead of looking like an eyesore. 5 stars all day! Ahhh, the Quechee Gorge...ive done this "hike" many times in my life, but the most recent time, post Hurricane Irene, was a tough one. Mother Nature is both relentless and powerful, as the evidence of the aftermath clearly showed on this cool September evening. Trees down, mud everywhere, strewn about propane tanks, "trail closed" signs, random trash, and very few signs of wildlife. A truly epic journey this time, up and down, the Gorge Trail. One i will not soon forget. Bring a camera, some good kicks to walk in, maybe some snacks, and go spend some time at the Gorge, you will not be disappointed with what you see---anytime of the year! Maybe roll a spliff too?! Hmmm, lemme know ifya roll a spliff, ill meetcha there! read more

We love camping in VT and stayed here as we wanted to check out the Gorge. We reserved a lean-to well in advance, but there are also tent/RV sites available. When we arrived (mid-August), there was a no-vacancy sign out front. Checking in was easy, and the campground is clean and well cared for. There are several bathrooms and showers, including a very nice, new bathroom facility. There is a private trail to the gorge for campground visitors, which starts near the campsites. The trail is a little steep going down, but nothing the kids had problems hiking. You can also walk to the Visitor's Center and take the trail from there, which is a little easier. We had older folks visit us while we stayed at the campground, and I would recommend the visitor's center trail. At the bottom of the trail near the bottom of the gorge, you can check out the flats and go swimming. It was pretty busy while we were there, but nothing bothersome. Bring watershoes, sunscreen, snorkel mask or goggles, towels, and a waterproof camera if you have one. Across from the campground is shopping, pizza, mini golf, a Quality Inn, and more, so there is plenty to do nearby. There were programs going on at the park, which was nice, since the kids had some activities to do. They visited a tent in the main field and did some crafts. The staff was helpful and nice, and we were also able to order campfire wood to our site, which was very convenient. read more

I've seen my fair share of giant holes in the ground, and I can definitely say that Quechee Gorge is the absolute... greenest. During my cross country roadtrip Kanan Across America (http://KananAcrossAmerica.blogspot.com) I got the opportunity to visit my friends in Vermont. I actually had no intention of visiting Quechee, it was just there on the road, so I had to stop by and see what all the fuss was about. Definitely worth a quick stop if you're passing thru the area. Cool view from the bridge-- walkways on both sides so be sure to check out both the upstream and downstream vistas! Little bit of a (easy, covered) trail btwn the the roadside market/ice cream stand, under the bridge, and over to the visitor's center (which was closed when we were there) on the other side of the highway. There was a picnicking area nearby too, but unless you're on the bridge it's difficult to see down into the gorge. read more

This natural carved landscape can be a little intimidating for those with fears of heights. The bridge spanning the gorge has a high railing and fence so you can walk along and look upon rock carved by glaciers millenias ago, a hundred feet below you. The water is free-flowing carrying sediment of the lands. I would have enjoyed a swim at the bottom of the trail, but alas I had not the swim trunks. Nice area to bring the family, but a steep climb. It's probably a mile walk down the trail to where you can swim. Those with respiratory or otherwise ambulation difficulties should take frequent rests, or forgo the trip to the bottom altogether. Enjoy the view from the bridge. There is a visitor center, it's nice and cool on a summers day, plenty of nick-nacks and souvenirs available there, but there's a gift shop as well at the bridge. But the visitor center will have fliers and pamphlets for things to do in Vermont, so if you're looking for stuff this is a decent stop. read more

We stopped here while on our VT roadtrip. I am by no means a "hiker," but I thoroughly enjoyed my time @ Quechee Gorge State Park. We stopped in at the Visitor's Center and inquired about the trail; the man who assisted us was very congenial and helpful. From there, we took the path to the bridge and the gorge area. We both had on sandals and were fine with the trek. The path was wide, flat, and well-marked. Across from the Visitor's Center is a cute mini-village with a bunch of shops. You don't need a large amount of time to spend here, but it is a good stopping point if you're in the area. read more

Hiking here may be a bit trickier with steep slopes. Still, you get a great view of the gorge with nice little village shops along the way. Just be prepared with some good hiking shoes. I remembered a bridge here which we got great shots of the gorge. read more

I know the Quechee State Park has more to offer than just the Quechee Gorge, but that's all I was able to see during our trip to Vermont. It was beautiful as most of Vermont was. You can also take a trail down and see the river...however it was too late and cold the day I was out there, so I just snapped some pictures from the bridge. If you're driving through you should stop on by and take a peek! read more
