The journey to get there, however, was nothing short of a nightmare. I would NOT recommend taking on a project like this with BetterLivings/Clarke Contractors. Choose another company and do your homework. They do not communicate and perform to the standard you would expect when paying such a large amount for a project like this one. To start, we were told the room was expected to take a week, potentially two to complete. We were at this process for over 2 months (and still waiting on screens to be repaired). So, if you are expecting a speedy installation, don't hold your breath. We understand that materials are tough to get right now, but the time it took to complete this project was ridiculous. The delay in the build was met with very little communication from the company unless we reached out to get it. There would be days BetterLivings employees were expected and never showed. I think we saw the PM once, maybe twice? Coordination with outside contractors such as the electrician was never completed as stated. The Project Manager never knew what was going on with the build. The workers on the actual room were very kind and knowledgeable when they were there, however, they never had the right information or tools to complete their job (not their fault; they should have been provided these things by the company). They also did not clean and left materials laying around for months. We have small kids and animals and our yard is still filled with nails, metal shavings, etc. The subcontractors used to extend our deck were nice, but the work was not. My husband spent time reinforcing the deck with additional supports because we were worried about its integrity. I have NO idea how the first pass was okayed by the inspectors. It seemed as though Clarke Construction was more worried about just getting it done than it being safe/right. Huge red flag. Overall, you will be your own Project Manager. You will have to set times, ask questions diligently, and expect nothing but excuses as to why something was not done, why someone did not show, or why things are taking so long. You will also receive very short, one sentence answers that do not fully answer questions and still leave you wondering. I have never been met with such unprofessionalism. Do not just leave your customer hanging and wondering about the project. We have also learned from our PM that the company does not even do a final walk through. of the build. How do you know this job is complete? The structure is safe? Completely unbelievable. When you have a customer that is involved and paying a large amount of money for your product, they deserve much better treatment than what we received with this company. I am so thankful that we noticed things. I am so glad our time with this company is almost over. There is no way I would spend the kind of money we did on this room and expect this to be our experience. Quite frankly, it is sad. Had we been an older couple that was not able to complete everything this company failed to do, we'd be sitting in a very unsafe and poorly built structure, or have to spend thousands more to have it fixed. This room was not worth the money or amount of stress this project caused. We have had so many friends and neighbors ask about the room and we have directed them to shop at other companies.

They did an incredibly good job redoing our, what appears to me, complicated fabric covered chairs. They even refinished the walnut base and legs, we were not expecting this and at no additional charge. Speaking of charge, it was more than reasonable, the interior design company we had engaged had quoted us more than double what Homan Interiors charged us, using the same material. It was a pleasure talking to the owner, it was obvious he really enjoys bringing these old chairs back to their former glory. One way to tell whether or not you've done business with a good company is how they treat you when things don't go swell; case in point: I recently rented a Vermeer Dingo and threw the tread while in my creek (my fault). They dispatched their onsite maintenance team to fork it out with a T590, and then left the T590 behind for me to use (about 3x capacity). Because of their promptness and courtesy, I was still able to place 76 yards of fill dirt and contour it before the (vestigial hurricane) torrential rains came this weekend. This was a big deal because that dirt was placed to stop my home from flooding due to the nearby creek.

Doing so I've experienced many break downs, accidental rental reservation headaches the day of pickup and the lack of care and service from other rentals. I was always caught wasting my time fixing other rentals equipment.....with complete disregard for safety and care. So many negative experiences lead me to now rent ONLY from Central Tool for ALL my rentals no matter the distance. Their equipment is always updated, clean, and fully operational as expected rental after rental. No BS, they are upfront with the costs and willing to do what they can to load, unload and most of all they take the time to build a relationship. Central Tool Rental should be rated teh best rental ever! if you don't think so you might be stupid or just a dumb individual that can't operate machinery bigger than a weed eater!
