Queen of Hearts opened its doors for the first time in 2006 by Karen Beebe. The store is a fashion boutique featuring cool jewelry, colorful dresses, and unique accessories. Last time I stopped by, I was checking some jewelry accessories for a gift....they do have lots of fun stuff that you don't usually see at a larger department store. I had the pleasure of stumbling upon this adorable little shop earlier today, and I'm so glad that I did! Queen of Hearts is a whimsical boutique on Westminster Street in Providence that specializes in women's clothing and accessories, plus fun gift items for everyone in your life! I could have spent hours browsing through their inventory, which just got updated for spring with several bursts of vibrant colors. It actually brightened my mood and reminded me that warmer weather is just around the corner! I had my sights set on a gorgeous blue leather jacket by BB Dakota, and at $87, it was a good price for the quality, but totally out of my millennial budget. Oh well, onto the wish list it went! I ended up buying a pair of gunmetal grey rhinestone lightning bolt earrings for $16 - definitely a more reasonable pick, and I just couldn't leave without getting SOMETHING! #ClotheshorseProbs I also really loved the selection of healing crystals and tarot / zodiac items. A lot of my friends are into mysticism and all that jazz, and now I know where to come when their birthdays roll around! The girl that helped me out couldn't have been friendlier, and it really elevated my already-awesome shopping experience. I was walking by on my way to pick up dinner when I noticed a Yelp Shops Local Sticker in the window. Intrigued - I decided to let my dinner sit for a while and see what this small clothing boutique had to offer - and boy am I glad I did!!!! Queen of Hearts (along with its sister shop Modern Love located next door) is a gem of a clothing store. The racks of the store are filled with funky but wearable clothing styles. I usually stay away from "boutique-y" type stores because I can either a) their prices are too high or b) the styles are well... just not my style. Queen of Hearts breaks this mold. From romantic to the more off beat and funky the store stocks pieces that are both wearable and reasonably priced. I figured I would be in and out of there in several minutes but with each rack I perused something else was set aside to try on. In addition, to clothing Queen of Hearts sells cheeky home decor items - like the LP's molded into cool storage/serving vessels - and a variety of accessories - such as hats, jewelry and scarves. And while checking out - I "checked in" on Yelp and discovered by doing so I received 10% off my purchase. Score! The manager told me that they constantly rotate their items and even though I don't live closer I signed up for their mailing list to be kept in the loop for upcoming sales and events the store frequently has. But - Queen of Hearts stole my heart and the next time I am in Providence this store will definitely be on my radar. read more

Rude and arrogant girls work here. I was sold a shirt that I didn't try on as a gift. I noticed a hole when I got home and returned that day to exchange it for the same shirt but the girls said no because it was on sale and no exchanges. Just wanted the same top undamaged. As I walked out they all recommended to not return to the store. Had I made a seen or something I would understand, I did not and felt they were being mean just for the sake of it. read more

Call this place my new obsession. Oh. My. God. In love. If I could purchase every dress in this store, I would - they're all cute, pretty, quirky and just perfect for the summer weather. This store is FULL of goodies - not just the dresses, but soaps, makeup, jewelery and funky RI tees. Love. Owner Karen Beebe has hit a home run with this gem - it's fun to explore and even more fun to chit-chat with the gals that work here. You can tell they're having a blast working amidst all the happy items, and even happier to share them with their customers. There is literally something for everyone here, but nothing is too precious, which I like - the store doesn't take itself too seriously and that's what makes it such a pleasure to shop in. A few days ago I reviewed Modern Love. With passion. And, I forgot Modern Love's beautiful twin sister across the way...Queen of Hearts. How could I forget? I do not know. Modern Love (shoes/accessories) and Queen of Hearts (clothing/accessories) are attached at the hip, literally. There is a doorway that goes between them (though they do both have separate entrances) so you really get two excellent shopping stores for the trip of one! And they are cool with you passing back and forth and paying for things at one register, as they have the same owner (mother?) Karen... So, what did I score at Queen of Hearts in my short mission? *Beautiful lace pink shirt. Light and airy, perfect for summer. On sale for about $35! *Cute cheeky card made by local artist. Super friendly staff, quaint little dressing room, all racks are organized and presented beautifully. Very organized, pretty great selection of dresses, rompers, shirts, etc. Some dressier dresses as well, great for weddings or cocktail parties. If you're shopping in Providence, this is a MUST. Quirky, fun, cute lil boutique store. I did think some of their prices were pretty high, but the clothing was rather different and creative. I thought the service was friendly (I didn't buy anything) but tried on a few dresses. They only have one dressing room and I had to wait about 15 minutes (seemed like an hour) because a girl was taking forevererereer trying on a dress. I'd be happy to come back and check out their clothing again when I come back to Providence. read more

Queen of Hearts is love ... True love. Because the parking on Westminster Street can be annoying sparse and competitive, I usually elect to walk here from the office, and it's always worth it - even in the cold. I stop in often. I love that it's boutique-y items that I can wear to the office; I just hate the elderly looking office wear that lots of store have these days. Just this past week I picked up a fabulous dress and a perfectly tailored pencil skirt on clearance. I paid just under $20 for the two items - amaaaazing deal. I was so thrilled. The folks that tend the register are super friendly and very helpful. When I paid, I accidentally left my card at the register (something that I do waaaay to often) and when the cashier noticed, he chased me down Westminster - literally running - to make sure that I got my card back. I was so grateful! And I cannot wait to go back and pick up some fabulous new pencils =) read more

Queen of Hearts/Modern Love is a complete dream. Beautifully curated and with an ever-rotating stock, these sister shops will usually have something to make me pull out my wallet! Their housewares and jewelry make great, unique gifts for anyone on your Christmas list or with an upcoming birthday. Or, you know, just because. That is, if you manage to not talk yourself into keeping it for your own personal use after buying it for someone else! Their clothing selection is beautiful, if priced a little on the higher side. However, you're definitely paying for quality, so I really can't fault that. The one detractor for the clothing end is sizing. I'm a petite lady and I've invariably found that even some of their smallest shirts and coats "swim" on me and dresses/skirts would invariably need to be hemmed were I to wear them. So, one star off for that. Show us short girls some boutique love! But in any case, keep on rockin' downtown PVD, guys. I am HERE for it! read more

Attached to Modern Love, another quirky little shop filled with artsy/hipster goodies (ripe for the purchasing). Cheap retro sunglasses (I almost bought Ray Ban look-a-likes for 12$), cool vintage/custom clothing, really funky jewelry, and even some neat-o home furnishings (vinyl serving bowls!). Yes, I perused my artsy little HEART out. Even more delightful?: all of the trinkets were REASONABLY priced! I never picked up an item and thought, "whoa - they want HOW much for this revamped t-shirt?!" Art chic on an artists budget - perfecto. The space is small, but there certainly isn't any shortage on creative items - a great visit even if you don't end up purchasing anything! read more

Funky, eclectic local quality. Owner and artist run- friendly service and they not only know their product (because they made them) but they are really passionate about their creations as well! Love the new location, and although my style does not usually sway to hipster (I'm a bit boring traditional, sorry!) there are tons of hidden gems inside this store. I did some Christmas shopping and found some unique and amazing gifts, as well as some things I want to come back and try after the season of giving is done and it is time to do some shopping for myself! Why experience the chaos that is the mall when you can support local craftsmen and women and find everything you need in downcity Providence? Plus- free parking for 2 hours with any downcity purchase - maybe it is just during the holidays, but still. read more

Love Queen of Heart's style. Every time I stop in they have new items. Alot of it is boutique-y, but it's all very classy and stylish for anyone to wear. I can't believe I haven't written a review yet - I really like this place & Modern Love. I usually go in looking for something and come out without it but with a bunch of other things. The shoes at Modern Love are to die for and they carry my favorite brand, Miz Mooz. I love, love their accessory collection - fashion jewelry, bags, tights, scarves, etc. They don't have much in the way of XL or plus sizes, so the clothes don't usually fit me and they're more than I would normally spend anyway, but you can usually find some really affordable, fashionable and unique accessories. I'd say the clothes target the 20 - 30 something crowd, but I've definitely bought gifts for my 60 year old mother here. read more

I love this place! And modern love! I've boughten plenty of things from these shops! I love how they support local artists and always have a new selection whenever I go in! The manager there is q sweetheart! She's always very helpful! I remember one time I was leaving and she ran after me to tell me they were having a sidewalk sale and told me all about it! She knew I'd be interested! The only thing is! The parking.. But it's worth it! It's in a fun area and there's other things to see in that area. When a clothing store has a sewing machine in the corner and it's not just for looks, you know you've found THE place for true fashionistas. Yes, the owner cranks out custom creations on that machine, and even though I don't consider myself a fashionista, I am in awe of anyone who can make clothes. The store is completely adorable and stocked with affordable, one-of-a-kind feeling items. Definitely a perfect spot for finding an adorable cocktail dress and the perfect hand-crafted accessory to match. I ended up here on a mission for a semi-dressy ensemble to wear to a party. I had showed up in town with only jeans! For under $50, I walked away with a super comfy and cute pencil skirt and tights. Perfect! read more

When you see an artist living the dream, doesn't it just warm your heart and make you want to support her efforts? Well, Karen Beebe, the owner of and resident designer at Queen of Hearts, does just that. Moved from a small-ish space behind Tazza, Queen of Hearts now occupies a chunk of prime real estate on Westminster amid some of the bourgiest shops in Providence. I can imagine that the rent is astronomical, but apparently, Queen of Hearts has no problem keeping up. In Queen of Hearts, you can find everything from hand-made ruffly frocks to retro Betsey Johnson, a vintage cameo brooch to almost-new designer heels. It's a funky store with an inviting lay out, a variety of design aesthetics, and some great sales usually verging on 40% off an above. This shop carries Beebe's own clothing line (Lucille - the workshop is right in the back of the store so Miss Beebe creates there, too), other local designers' lines, new and vintage jewelry and accessories, Queen of Hearts signature make-up, and other random art from artists around the city. The variety of offerings in the store makes it supremely shoppable - if you don't like a line, move on, and chances are you'll find something you like. My personal fave: the 'I'm Your Present' line, which features creepy repurposed kitty cat t-shirts with rhinestone appliqués over the cats' eyes. Nothing says 'take me now' like a tight mini-dress with sparkly felines all over it.... Karen Beebe certainly busts her rump to keep this dream alive - you can also find her behind the bar at The Avery or Lili Marlene's several nights during the week. Having recently (like, yesterday!) expanded to include an all-accessories sister store next door, Queen of Hearts works hard for it honey - and you get to look gorgeously edgy as a result! read more

I have *attempted* to shop at Queen of Hearts/Modern Love three times.... Each time I walked in to this tiny shop I was greeted with a mumble of a cold hello, then awkwardly watched for the entire duration of my stay. The girls who work here seem unfriendly and I felt very unwelcome. I would rather spend my money elsewhere, which is unfortunate because I prefer to support local businesses and some of the styles in the store are very unique. Queen of Hearts is a great shop that is extremely unique and funky! Such bright colors and awesome displays.They just expanded to a new location on Westminster St. in downtown Providence, that houses a lot more merchandise. Their previous location was right next door to Tazza and a little tight, although they still carried most of the same, pretty interesting things. The store is a hand crafted boutique that showcases the work of numerous local and regional artists. Gotta love the support for shopping local! Everything that's handmade is one of a kind and many of the artists can do custom/special orders if you ask. They have a pretty good mix of everything( books, pottery, vintage clothing, stuffed animals) although jewelry seems to be the most popular. The jewelry was quite inventive and really high quality, with a vintage feel (some pieces were made of hand hammered gold and authentic stones/jewels). Earrings made of vintage vinyl records also caught my eye, and I think they carried some necklaces too. They also have a really nice selection of clothing- (t-shirts for guys and gals) dresses ect...although there is somewhat of a small range of items, mostly because the majority is handmade. There are a couple wholesale brands mixed in, but I think about 90% is by local artists, including the owners own line of clothing/accessories. This was a treat for me, as there was so much to explore! I found a really cool mug by Unkle Thirsty who is a local artist, a funky vintage dress that was in top condition and really cute crocheted handwarmers that were made by a local designer as well. It's obvious the artists put in a lot of love...everything was well made and not overly pricey! As a student, I'm thankful the pieces I found didn't break the bank. Also found a heavy, handcrafted pottery bowl for my mum for her birthday ( a bonus!) Overall, I'm really pleased with my first visit at the new space. I'm going back for these weird, but awesome stuffed creatures and this rescue dog book that had lovely photography...I think like 30% goes to an animal foundation which is great. New Location, I didn't have that much red wine in me not to know that. Right on Westminster Street, very stylish new digs (dresses, shirts scarves jewelry etc.) but not over the top with all the impressive one of kinds that this place is known for trust me it doesn't get any better than this and if it doesn't fit right, Miss. Karen can will definitely do her best to do the alterations. This is great spot for gift buying for anyone if you would love to get them something awesome and special and of course it pays big to buy local again and again. So, I've been a long time shopper of Queen of Hearts/Modern Love. The atmosphere is stylish, beautifully decorated and they carry some harder to find in person brands (Stop Staring and Miz Mooz) so when I've been looking to "wow", I've always stopped in here. Recently, I developed some brain damage and shopping has become a nightmare because most stores play music-not a problem for most healthy brains to handle, but when you have a neurological disorder, it is often a deal breaker. One of my friends suggested i ask the stores if they could lower the music so I could shop and usually I get a hard stare and annoyed look. NOT the case at Queen of Hearts/Modern Love! Every single one of the employees has been so kind and immediately turns the music off without any attitude. They've even been so kind to let me know that I just need to say the word and they will happily accommodate my needs so I never have to feel uncomfortable. I haven't found any store as accommodating and lovely with my needs as these folks and as I result, I will happily hand my money over to them vs. most others because this of this simple action. They have me as a forever customer. read more

I am in love with this store. It's near my work so I stop in on my way home more often than I should. The staff is friendly without being pushy and they are always putting out new things. The jewelery! So cute, and very reasonably priced. I have ever been disappointed with anything I've bought and I always get compliments on the things I buy there. I've gotten earrings, necklaces, a hat, cute shorts and a pair of shoes(on sale!) and I love them all. Plus, they always have good music playing. Best little shop in Providence, for sure. read more

Found this little boutique on my run through downtown. Fabulous is the only word I can use to describe it. Unique pieces from shoes to clothes to jewelry. Queen of hearts (as well as Modern Love, next door) are some of my favorite clothing stores in the Providence area. They have a great selection of clothing, shoes and accessories. Its a little on the pricey side but not bad for a boutique downtown. If i could rate this a half a star I would. First of all the staff was extremely rude she hung up on me when I went in they were saying this job sucks Blah blah And on as I walked in I banged my ribs with the ugly table next to the door I'm pretty sure that's a fire hazard and I tell my uncle who's the fire chief to fine them I wouldn't go there bad vibes not to mention ugly cloths. I was so excited to finally check out this store. With my freshly deposited paycheck and the recent weight loss i felt confident and energized. I was super into all of the styles and had been hearing about how it was "so me" from all of my friends who already shopped there. Here's where it turned... I found the sizing to be pretty appalling even with my smaller waist and started sweating from the stress of it all. I asked a young girl working her name and for help (her name was Amanda - I remember because my name is also Amanda) and she wouldn't look up from her phone long enough to even actually offer me anything more than a name and a nod. I continued to peruse the store and try on a few things all the while this employee stared at her phone not asking me once if i needed anything or even acknowledging me. I decided the store didn't deserve my business, put the clothes i was going to purchase back, and walked out. It's usually a clear indicator of how a business is run if your employees are SO miserable. I will NOT be returning to this store and hope that the owner eats a big piece of humble pie and makes sure her staff is well trained and happy before they turn any other potential business away. read more
