Today's my last class with Tony! Overall, I really love Queens Guitar School - everyone there is so friendly. I look forward to my class every Tuesday. Tony + Jobelle are super friendly and helpful. As for my skills! I learned so much and I'm so happy I came here. Honestly, I was in a weird slump - I wanted something that I can do on my own - that I was passionate about and this did it for me. I'm definitely continuing to the intermediate level! Our class stayed small and the people in it are super cool. Everyone was super down to earth and easy to talk to. I knew nothing about how to play a guitar and now I'm actually playing along to songs which feels amazing. I always like to sing a long to karaoke in my apartment so now it feels good to sing along to my guitar lol. read more

Queens Guitar School has proven to be an outstanding choice for our 7 yr old daughter, Charlie, to begin learning guitar. She recently received a guitar-ukulele "guitalele" as a gift. We were eager to have her learn the basics so she could feel comfortable playing at home or in public. After a quick Google search and a phone call to JoEllen, their very polite office manager, she was easily set up in her first individual session with Vinny. The school's Astoria location is pretty convenient being a couple blocks away from 31st St and Broadway, Q102+Q104 bus routes and N/W train nearby. While they do offer beginner classes, we chose the private one-on-one weekly sessions, that last 30 min. We believed this would help lessen any nerves our "sometimes shy" daughter would have playing an instrument in front of ppl for the first time. They also have guitars on standby for free in case you forget to bring your own. You can tell from when you walk in that the staff is happy to see you and all the instructors are so friendly and welcoming. Vinny has been great from the start, everything you would want in a children's instructor. He was very patient, encouraging, and informative. You are encouraged to sit in on the private lesson, which we found very helpful so you can see how each lesson builds on the last and to see the growth/learning first hand. He explained everything from how to hold the guitar, posture, the string order, to the importance of listening. Vinny is a BIG advocate of using the "Suzuki Method" and it shows during his lessons. He constantly stresses how important it is listen to the music and develop recognition of sounds and notes to memory. Vinny is personable and always sharing his laughs and smiles. His passion to helping our daughter and all his students develop their skills is obvious, genuine, and very much appreciated. Charlie has made alot of improvement over the last year. She's able to play on her own modestly, and she's able to self correct while she practices at home. She also participated last Fall in one of the school's in-house concerts. We believe Vinny and Queens Guitar School are a big reason for her growth. If you are looking for great environment to learn an instrument (we've seen some keyboard and drums lessons), please do yourself a favor and check them and Vinny out!!! read more

I have had such an incredible time learning to play the guitar here. I have taken three levels with Curtis and he's such a great teacher -- he knows how to challenge students while never making them feel bad when they don't understand or aren't quite getting things on the first try. I'm very sad that I can't finish all of the levels (I've taken three so far) but when I can I will definitely be back! read more

I've been having a great time taking lessons at the Queens Guitar School. The school is conveniently located near the Broadway stop on the N/Q line in Astoria and there's also street parking available if you drive to the site. The facility is well maintained, offers a variety of classes, possesses a friendly administrative staff, and has a fantastic team of instructors. Tony C. has been my teacher for the past year and in brief...HE IS AWESOME! Tony does a great job of customizing my lessons based on my musical tastes and skill level. Each lesson builds upon on our prior work and has allowed me to transition through a variety of musical genres, acquire a good sense of music theory, and has made me a much better guitarist. I'm now much more confident with learning chord strumming patterns, finger picking, working through song arrangements, and improvising solos. Tony's love of music, education background, teaching experience, and personal nature has been extremely helpful to me. Our lessons often start with learning an aspect of music theory or playing technique - followed by the application of that knowledge within new songs. He'll provide me with the appropriate sheet music or quickly transcribes the music, demonstrates how the song is played, and delivers the necessary guidance to learn the material. A few of my friends are also studying with Tony and they're all delighted to be enrolled in this school. Queens Guitar School does a wonderful job in building a community for its students. Its instructors are supportive, knowledgeable musicians who actively encourage practicing and performing with others. I first discovered this school by attending one of their monthly open mic sessions - where students are invited to play for friends and family. After years of noodling on guitar, I decided to get serious and learn guitar. Initially, I was going to get lessons as Guitar Center in Times Square, where I bought my guitars. However, I checked out NYC Guitar School in my area, and it was a much better fit for me. I started in November 2017, and am still continuing. I've been studying one on one with Emilio Tostado. Emilio is extremely knowledgeable and very easy going, yet energetic in teaching others on how to learn guitar. Every lesson I take with him, I learn something new. I really look forward to my Tuesday evening sessions. Although some may consider lessons a bit pricey, I think that NYC Guitar School is money well spent. The entire staff there is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Highly recommended. read more

I joined in july '12 and have been improving dramatically (started with no previous guitar experience and very little musical experience when was little). Classes are heaps fun. My instructor is Luke. He he is very patient and flexible. I am learning new things with him every session and getting to play different styles (spanish, rock, pop,...). I am loving the experience.The instructors including Ivan the manager are very friendly, laid back, fun to be around and most importantly extremely talented. Took Absolute Beginners class with Tony and it was amazing. We learned lot more than I expected. Everyone was friendly and encouraging.

I have been taking both individual guitar and vocal lessons at Queens Guitar School for a couple of years and all I can say is good things about them. They truly have a passion for teaching and it comes out during the lessons. I have enjoyed working with both teachers I have had and they always push me to get to the next level. The staff is very friendly and easy to work with. Anytime I have to call them about a canceled lesson or billing question, the person on the other side of the phone is always sending out friendly vibes. Their customer service gives them an A+++ in my book. They also have a very reasonable cancelation policy, which for me is important. 5 stars to the teachers and staff of Queens Guitar School! read more

Best class experience ever! I loved my Absolute Beginner class I took at the Astoria location. Went there with absolutely no knowledge about guitar playing at 33 and now I'm playing guitar:) We had Cameron as a teacher and he was great at having us understand the basics and keeping us interested in the process all throughout the course. There are not enough words to express how much I love coming to Queens Guitar school and learning with Tony every Sunday. He's not only my guitar teacher, but my source of weekly therapy! He's a knowledgeable teacher and is willing to work with you to achieve the guitar goals you want to accomplish, whether it's the basics or learning a particular song (which he can listen to once and just KNOW the cords, it's amazing to watch his ear at work)!! Started as an absolute beginner and was playing right away. After every lesson you learn something that you can play. The learning material is extremely useful. Class times are not spent on drills and exercises, you're actually learning to play. Everyone is extremely nice. Class times are flexible and sizes are small. They have guitars for your use in class and can rent one cheaply to take home. It's the only place I've ever taken lessons. When it's this good you don't need to look elsewhere. I have been satisfied every step of the way. I look forward to it every week. Do something great with your time, learn to play guitar. Kudos to Ross, Tony, Vincent, Luke et al. for making Queens Guitar School a great place to learn. read more

My name is BFH. I started out late in life. I am 36 years young and decided to follow through on my dreams of picking up the guitar. I take weekly lessons with Tony Calabro in Astoria Queens since September of 2016 and it has been the best decision I have made in my 30's. Playing the guitar is extremely beneficial for the brain and extremely therapeutic. More than learning the guitar, the company is mom and pop owned, it is a small family. Leanna runs the company like a champion, a winner who is there to help you succeed in your goals, a genuinely great person. Tony makes learning the guitar splendid. Great school for kids. Classes are small and teachers are patient and professional. My 8 year old loves it!

I was hesitant to sign-up my six year for guitar lessons, but my wife insisted and I am glad she did. It's a great school. My daughter loves her lessons and has learned so much.
