We had such a fun time at Queen's Head. As tourists, we went early one evening, to enjoy being in a friendly environment. It was quiet, and that was just what we needed that night. Another night, we went, and it was Drag Queen Bingo. The place was packed. It was so much fun. The drag queen was fun, witty, and so welcoming to everyone. We felt right at home. It was a wonderful place to have drinks, and enjoy being in a happy, queer friendly place. We will definitely go back. Thank you Queen's Head! read more

We came here twice during our Amsterdam visit. It's a great spot with charming decor. They do Drag Queen Bingo every Tuesday night. You need to reserve a table if you want one, FYI. They go fast. We popped in a couple hours earlier and managed to snag the last reservation. You can still play but you'll have to sit at the bar or on benches. We didn't win but the hostess was pretty funny and entertaining. There's a great smoking room downstairs. En route to the bathrooms. After walking down the stairs, take the first left. There's a sign on the door ("smoking room"). Has a window that opens with a great view of the canal. Friendly bartenders. Met some nice people too. Funny story - we had the most uncomfortable interaction of our trip here. This is funny since I usually think -- "oh, cool, a gay bar, I don't have to deal with aggressive straight guys hitting on me." Well, I didn't consider aggressive bisexual guys... There was one bi dude who wouldn't leave us alone -- kept trying to offer us drugs, tell us about his sex life and preferences, repeatedly inquire about our sex lives, and suggest that we have sex with each other. He made us all super uncomfortable. Obviously, no judgment on Queen's Head as they can't control their clientele... I just find it ironic. Anyway, go here! read more

This was a fun little bar! Apparently it's the oldest 'gay bar' in Amsterdam. Lots of locals and tourist alike. Drinks were reasonable and there's a view of the canal if you sit near the back. They do karaoke some nights but not the night I was there. I think I also saw they do a drag show but I'm not 100%s sure. read more

The oldest gay bar in Amsterdam. Although it doesn't feel like it. When I visited recently the other patrons made me feel welcomed and comfortable. It also happened to be karaoke night and the songs were cool. It's a full service bar so they have pretty much anything you'd like and of course, they accept Euros and credit cards. Smoking is not allowed in the bar, you'll have to take it outside. Bottom line is that this is a very chill bar, albeit it a very SMALL bar, but you'll enjoy it! read more

This place seems to be a pretty chill spot to get the evening going OR to settle the evening off.... many of my colleagues talk about this place and it was my 1st time going inside (I think). The bartenders are friendly and there were probably 8 or 9 in our group so we took a good chunk of the bar and it was ok. I'm not sure if it's a European thing to serve a shot of liquor over ice and give a bottle of the mixer but, I guess it was ok. I just wasnt wowed by the drinking situation. I was however enthralled by the chill atmosphere. I really love how they have the bar as well as some lounge type area with cushioned sofa type seats. I'm not a club head at all so this was perfect for us. There are more than several eateries around so it's the perfect blend d of happy hour, party starter, nightcap situation. I'll be pretty sure that I'll visit again in the near future but til next time read more

Love this place. Friendly, fun and all around FABULOUS is all I can say about The Queens Head. In a short trip we managed 3 visits and all were great. The space is nice, clean and well taken care of all around. The best part, the staff... they're the FABULOUS bit. They're the reason we returned and will be the reason for future visits. This American Southerner via London is sure to make it back during more Dam visits, y'all! See you there. read more

I was in Amsterdam for work and went to the Queen's Head to check out the Drag Queen Bingo. It had already started so I figured I'd just watch. It was quite busy with standing room only. I was initially fine with that, even thought the crowd was over half GIRLS. I watched for about 20 minutes. Then one girl at the bar left . So since that seat opened up I sat down. The bartender said I couldn't sit there cause I wasn't playing bingo. So I stood up again. No one sat down. Then another employee said I COULD sit at the bar. So I sat down again. The bartender again said I couldn't sit there. WTF! I've never been to a bar where seats were seemingly pre-reserved! Evidently they wanted to save seats so everyone else could move over closer to the hostess. This was insane! Everyone was seated and happy. As a senior gay man, I was super offended that they TWICE refused me a seat at the bar. It's bad enough that DRAG BINGO was at least half filled with non-gay women. But to be refused a seat as a GAY MAN was ridiculous . It was only the second time I'd ever been there. And I seriously think I'll never go back. Very rude bullshit! ... One of the few gay bars in Amsterdam that is not on the gay street (Reguliersdwarsstraat) and I'm actually happy for that....because this venue has lots of charm. I really like this bar for: - The crowd: The median age is late 30's...and there's no twinks trying to out-do each other in fashion. The guys are very friendly and just looking for beer, conversation and good company. It feels like a local gay bar just for the locals. - The venue: It's near Centraal Station so it's easy to stay to the very last minute before you need to catch your train/tram/bus. 2 mins walk to the station. - Activities: One of the things I really like about this bar is Gay Bingo on Tuesday evenings....I've had such a fantastic time each time I visit. Also on this street (Zeedijk) is the starting street of the Hartjedag (http://www.beleven.org/feest/hartjesdag) a multi-day event culminating with a parade of transvestites and other costumed men and women. I call it a gay bar, because there's a gay flag on the outside and gay men inside but there's always straight people inside as well. This just adds to the reason why it's such a great venue. During my last visit I sat next to a straight couple, in their early 40's, who were telling me the story behind the street's name (Zeedijk). Decent sized and friendly bar which hosts drag karaoke competitions. They played Simple Minds when I was in so that's usually a good sign.
