Trying to be resourceful and new to the Newnan area, I started calling around to nearby auto repair shops to see who I could acquire the best quote for a diagnostic review with. I called a couple of shops and was given so many outrageous prices to diagnose the transmission that I became even more concerned with what kind of repair cost I might be in store for. I just knew I was in for a huge fee. Not being sure about any of the repair shops around, I called a couple of them that said they would charge me in excess of $175 or more for the diagnostic and that they needed at least 48 hours to provide the diagnosis. Most that I asked if any of that fee would go towards the repair, said, "No, that would not include the cost of the repair." That was a hard pass for me! I started thinking, "What happened to the days when a diagnostic fee would count towards the cost of repair if a new customer is having the work done at your shop?" Finally, I located an AAMCO Transmission shop conveniently located nearby. I read some of the reviews, which appeared to be mixed. I had already decided that if I'm going to pay "an arm and a leg" to have my car repaired, it may as well be with someone as reputable as the name AAMCO. From the moment I contacted them, they were very communicative. Not only was the diagnostic fee significantly less than any of the other places I had called, but Greg, the owner, also advised me the diagnostic fee would be applied to the cost of repair (basically waiving the diagnostic fee) and the diagnosis was promised in up to 24 hours rather 2 days like the other places! NOW, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! I was emailed and communicated with consistently by Greg McBride, the owner regarding anything status-related. I was very impressed by that! He was very consistent with his email correspondence and not avoiding you like some shop-owners tend to do. I received a quote via email. The price was less than I expected to have to pay to replace my transmission. I was greeted very politely and professionally by Doug Sharpton, who is equally as kind and helpful when you meet him in the office at the shop's front desk. (Greg's wife, Gigi and her cute little dog were there too!) They all made me comfortable enough to believe they cared about my car and are in the business of prompt and professional repair, rather than being there to take advantage of someone. Greg and Doug each always seemed very concerned and caring even about my only having the one car and knowing how crucial it was that I have the car back as soon as possible. (He often referred to my car as "your baby" which implied he cared for a person's vehicle as much as they do.) I contacted them on December 11th. I was nervous that I wouldn't have my car for the Christmas holiday, but I was praying for the best. I dropped the car off on Wednesday, 12/13 and they ordered the part (a used transmission), which we expected would arrive by the end of the week. They predicted having my car back by the following Tuesday, 12/19 at the latest. On Monday, 12/18, Greg notified me via email that the part was expected to arrive on Friday, 12/15, but didn't get delivered. Gigi called the vendor to attempt to get the part dropped off the same day. Then, there was the issue with the wrong part having arrived. On Tuesday, 12/19, I was becoming more sure I'd be without my car for Christmas. I emailed Greg again and he advised me that my transmission was in and with any luck, I should have the car back by Thursday, 12/21. He also mentioned they would be working on Friday, 12/22 for the purpose of getting customers their cars back before they closed for the weekend and for the holiday. (I consider that very considerate!) On Friday, 12/22, I received a call from Doug that my car was ready for pick up and I was so ecstatic that even though it was raining, I took off running to their shop which was about 15 - 20 minutes from where I live, in the rain! It didn't even matter at that point! When I arrived at the shop, I chatted with Doug at the desk, got the key and headed out to the car. As soon as I sat down in the seat I noticed a long crack in the windshield. I went back inside to ask Doug how this could happen. He assured me he would speak to Greg and that I should take the car so I would at least have transportation during the holiday. Hesitantly, I agreed. On 12/28, the windshield was ordered and repaired on 1/3/24. Although, this is probably not a typical occurrence for this shop, I am thoroughly pleased with the degree of professionalism, consistency in communication, character and quality of care this shop provided with the entire process. They made it right! The ultimate result is, my transmission works great, my car is running fine, and I have a nicely repaired windshield. I appreciate the integrity of the owner and the courtesy of the staff.

I was recommended by an ex worker that they were the best in town for transmission work. My husband and I went there since it was close to my work when the transmission went out. The quote was very good and was happy with the owner at the desk. But when I asked him how long it would take he said a week or so?? Then after a week I asked him when can I come up and pick up my vehicle he said they had not even started on it and they were backed up, which I was not told this before I left the car there to work on. It took almost a month for the car to get back to me so I had to rent a vehicle that long to get to work also. He said he had a worker quit and they had someone experienced coming in at night to finish up the work that was done during the day?? Well just want to tell you the transmission work was excellent but the Ya who that put my engine back in after the transmission twisted the fan schroade did not bolt in correctly and the fan schroade was touching the engine manifold rubbing and rattling all the time. I had to pay another auto place to put it in correctly not to ruin the manifold. I would not recommend this place for work on vehicle.

I almost forgot to renew my tag, and living in the metro area of Atlanta I have to spend extra…read moremoney to get my emissions checked - annually. Currently living in Smyrna, Ga but why did I come out here to get my emissions checked when there are plenty of places near my area to have it done? Well, simply because I work around LaGrange and the residence in this city do not have to get their emissions tested annually. So I had to find the closest city that does it and that would be Newnan. Which is about 30 min car ride from LaGrange. Getting there is pretty cool. You get to drive 3 Miles through a small town full of nice looking plantation homes and the shop is right there in downtown Newnan. The shop is a little stop and go mechanic shop that is dedicated to emissions test. Once I got there I was serviced almost immediately and finished within minutes. I didn't have to make an appointment just rolled right into the shop. I paid $20 for the service. This I'd consider average price. Overall experience- very good for their fast and cordial service.

I just purchased a vehicle from here and must say that I am shocked to see all the negative reviews…read moreon here, my experience was the total opposite of negative. I saw the car online, sent in a inquiry about it, the next day I got emails to come in and see the car but there was only one picture of the vehicle, so I said "no 'm not unless you post more pictures for me to look at". They sent me several and told me they had just got the car in and that's why there was only one picture and it wasn't inspected or detailed. I then got an email from salesman Peter and he asked if I would be coming in that day since the pics were sent, I said yes, (with the determination of NOT buying a vehicle) but just looking at it as it wasn't clean, but did have a clean autocheck history and did have every bell and whistle that I wanted in a vehicle. I got there and was treated great! Peter was a fun and honest and professional person to work with and made my experience enjoyable. He didn't try and BS me about anything dealing with the car and was upfront about what he (the dealership) could and could not do. I would use him again if need be. Now my only gripe if there is one is this, why would a dealership even load pictures of a car that they just got in and list it for sale when they haven't done any inspections, any maintenance or detailing. That's like putting the cart before the horse. So I bought the car on that Saturday (so much for not buying when I said I wouldn't), but didn't receive it until Wednesday because they had to do the aforementioned maintenance, inspections, detailing. Peter did honor his word by having the car delivered to me since I lived about an hour or so away and didn't want to drag my wife back down there to go get it. So all and all this was a pleasurable experience, I love the car (SUV), it came to me clean and small imperfections were repaired/corrected to my surprise. Only time will tell if the car will hold up but everything on it seems nice and strong so I am pleased. Thank you Peter and the rest of the staff that helped (even if it was just getting us water to drink), I appreciate it and am glad I am not one of the people who had bad experiences for whatever reason.

I will not be returning to Southtowne Chevrolet after my recent experience…read more I've owned several vehicles over the years and have dealt with many dealerships and independent repair shops. In my experience, if you authorize the recommended repair, the diagnostic fee is often applied toward that repair. If you choose not to move forward, then you're responsible for the diagnostic charge. At Southtowne Chevrolet, I was charged for both the diagnostic and the repair, which was surprising and not something I've encountered before. I brought the vehicle in because it wouldn't start. They correctly identified the issue that needed to be repaired, but they also recommended more than $3,400 in additional services. The problem is that several of those recommended items had already been completed on the vehicle. For example, the windshield wipers had recently been replaced, yet they were still listed as needing replacement. This is actually the second vehicle I've taken to this dealership where services were recommended that had already been performed elsewhere. That raises serious concerns about how thoroughly the vehicle is being inspected before recommendations are made. It left me with the impression that recommendations are based more on service history in their system than on the actual condition of the vehicle. Customer service only made the experience worse. The attitude of my service advisor was inconsistent depending on the day, and when I raised my concerns, management simply defended the recommendations instead of addressing them. In the end, I paid the diagnostic fee, completed the necessary repair myself, and spent a fraction of what I was quoted. The actual repair cost me roughly five times less than their estimate. Based on my experience, I can't recommend Southtowne Chevrolet. I expected accurate inspections, transparent recommendations, and better customer service. Unfortunately, I didn't receive any of those.
