KIM'S COTTAGE - quaint, homey decor in my room -AW

    KIM'S COTTAGE

Great place to stay, more home-like than hotel!…read more When traveling thru small towns, I don't typically hold high expectations of hotels or eateries. Traffic drives quality, and low traffic is usually met with an appropriate level of accommodations. Kim's Cottage is a diamond in the rough: old school downtown main drag, commercial storefront, repurposed with quaint, homey cottage style dwellings inside. Adorned with antique bedding, bedside-bench & credenza, my cottage (#1) had unique charm with vintage touch. While I didn't partake in the amenity, my room featured a decent jacuzzi tub as well. Where the Best Western down the road may offer a continental breakfast, Kim's Cottage had a lovely spread of cereal and breakfast bars, generously available for consumption in my room, on-demand, day or night. I truly appreciate the accommodation! The bathroom was clean and again, featured homey details. Just felt "more friendly" than a cold hotel room. Fresh towels, actual shampoo & body wash I'd want to use, and even a stash of fresh q-tips. I found Kim's Cottage courtesy of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, while shopping for a hotel for a pending business trip and couldn't be happier with the recommendation. While I'm unsure if my work will again take me to Canadian, I'm so thankful for the experience and for enjoying a good night's sleep! Thanks Kim's Cottage! -AW

Weather had been bad all the way up from Texas and back and we'd been booking last minute cheapest rooms, but I wanted his last night on the road to be special because it had been such an arduous trip. He really liked it but felt it was too "frilly" for his comfort. He's kind of a bull in the china shop type guy. But he went on and on about how much I would have loved it, and how fun it was that the suites were built as separate cottages inside of the historic building. The hosts were very nice. And he loved the hot tub and didn't want to leave it. He said there was also a performance theatre next door, also owned by Kim's family. All in all, well worth it to stop and stay at Kim's.

LOVED this hotel when I stayed here last year. I thought I'd left a review on Yelp (must have been…read moreTripAdvisor), but I guess it slipped my mind, so let me correct that, now. I find the one star reviews very puzzling, but they are from several years ago, so maybe management changed? My experience was fantastic! I stay in BWs all over the country, and this one is definitely in my top 5. Let me explain my criteria...I don't need a hotel to be fancy. I need it to be nice (not scary), very clean, reasonably quiet (no perpetually loud guests, minimal traffic noise, etc.), reasonably priced (under $100 is great, under $125 is mandatory), and the staff have to be friendly and helpful (in return, I am also friendly, reasonable, and respectful). BW Oasis Inn ticked ALL my boxes. And bonus...quite possibly the best shower pressure I've ever experienced in my life. We're talking fire hose levels, here. I gave serious thought to staying a second night, despite needing to be in Houston the next day. And even though I stayed in that shower for a solid 30 minutes, the hot water never wavered! Now, to be fair, they didn't seem to be packed that night, so that might've helped on the water and noise fronts, but whatever. If I'm ever back in the area (or even close...I'll drive out of my way, a little, for a hotel I trust), I'll definitely be staying here! Oh, and there's a great donut place very near the hotel, so I picked up some of the best donuts and breakfast sandwiches I've ever tasted, too! Can't remember the name, but it's just this tiny, white building off by itself, just down the road, if you're headed towards Houston. Sweet owners, too. Actually, it looked like a gem of a small town, and I wish I hadn't gotten in so late, so I could've checked it out a bit more. Next time! :-)

My room was on the first floor and could be seen from the parking lot and street. When I inquired about the blinds, the attendant didn't seem interested. I asked for a room on the other side of the building or second floor and was informed there were no other rooms. Im here on business and want to turn off the lights and get to sleep. I don't understand why this is a thing. Don't stay here if you have an expectation of privacy. In the morning, i woke up, straightened up the bed and saw a blood spot on the edge of the mattress. Im pretty reasonable with most things but this is disgusting. The breakfast spread was actually very good and the manger in the morning was nice however, I wont be coming back here, but I hope they read this and attend to issues that shouldn't be a thing.
