We drove by this quilt barn a few days ago when we were visiting Waco and decided to make a stop. It's located near the Homestead Market and they share the same parking lot with other shops on the plaza. This is by far the best quilt shop I've ever seen in Texas and I was really impressed with the wide selections of fabrics they have in stock. From quilting fabrics, colorful ribbons, decorative buttons, to clothing making kits, the Quilt Barn caters to all the needs a crafter would need. I also love the fact that they have a lot of Texas-themed fabrics!! Making this a great spot to visit for both locals and tourists. Lastly, I feel like I'm obligated to leave a note here about their pricing...it's sooo reasonably priced. I picked two different fabrics and I love my souvenirs from the Quilt Barn!!

    Great colors

Wow this place is amazing with all the latest fabrics and nothing old and out of date like some large craft stores. They have lots of creative ideas available and a super selection of discounted fat quarters to add to your quilting products. They also teach classes and have other crafts available. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

Homestead Heritage is a commune-like place just north of Waco. It is based on Christian tenets;…read moremost of the 900 or so people involved in Homestead Heritage live nearby. Their goal is to be self-sufficient in all ways - growing their own crops, making soap, building their own timber framed structures, etc. The cool thing I love about Homestead Heritage is it's focus on traditional craft. The products that this group makes are of very high quality and include fiber arts, ceramics, traditional blacksmithing, and my favorite - furniture making. The Homestead Heritage Woodworking shop turns out impressive furniture and have won awards for their work. It's not cheap (the entire place is not cheap - I guess it helps fund their commune) but the quality is amazing. Windsor chairs, pencil post bed frames, dining tables are beautifully made and not like the mass-produced (cough, craptastic) "Amish" furniture that is sold all over these days. The woodworking shop offers classes in furniture making, making timber framed structures, and other topics. If you're not interested in buying anything, it's worth a look around (there's also a deli). It's a good place to take a break on the otherwise boring drive from Austin to Dallas on I-35. Four stars (would be five stars if the prices were a bit less).

You can easily spend an afternoon browsing the shops, grabbing lunch, or treating yourself to something sweet from the bakery. If you love Hearth & Hand at Target, you'll appreciate the style here, but many of the items are unique to Magnolia. Prices are generally higher than Target, but you're paying for exclusive products. Despite how busy it gets, the staff does a great job helping everyone. They also offer shipping, which is a huge plus if your purchases won't fit in your suitcase. While I have heard horror stories of how packed this place can get, but the day I spent here during the morning & lunch, it wasn't really that packed. While the weather was on the warmer side, still a good day to get out, so it surprisingly wasn't busy. They have several different stores to shop, from kitchen, to home decor, to men's items, or souvenirs. They have a good variety. I do think the larger stores have a great selection to shop from. The smaller stores at the back are rather small and I believe are lacking a variety to choose from. They just don't carry a good amount of items. Some of those specific stores you can quickly be in and out because you've looked at everything. I think the food options are great and are tasty. It's hard to go wrong with food trucks. Some food trucks have a little bit of a line and some don't have any lines. They do have a specific drink truck that only sells tea and that line can get very long, but it does go quick because it's only drinks. Honorable mention, the baking shop is phenomenal! They have a great pavilion with a turf play area. With kick balls and cornhole to play. They also have a turf baseball field for kids to play baseball at. Overall, the place is well maintained and very clean. If there is a mess somewhere, they are pretty quick to get on top of it to clean. The staff does a great job and I would recommend this place for anybody driving through or stopping.

I ended up purchasing a large amount due to the sale ending the next day and i didn't want to miss out on the deal. After going home and deciding on what i wanted to keep i took the rest back to return. No issues there. A few more days down the line i changed my mind again and needed less charms due to a change in guests for my event. So i had to take a few more back, unopened of course. This older lady... Debora.. was very passive aggressive with me. I was trying to make conversation and say how sorry i was that it was so complicated due to the last person marking all over the receipt with pen and making it confusing. She goes "well we know how to read it but when you do 2 separate returns it makes it confusing for us". In an annoyed voice. And so i go "well it would just be nice for you guys if you just needed to scan each item like every other store instead of needing to match up barcodes." Trying to show how i was being empathetic to her. That just really irritated me. It was so unnecessary to be that way. She didn't even say bye she just handed me my receipt and moved to the next person.

I can't imagine the lengths she goes to for people who don't own their mistakes. Lane 1 was closed with a sign. I had an even exchange, to swap out the same fake flower for a different color and a stuffed animal I found while waiting in line. I explained I thought the returns/exchanges was only for lane 1 and I'd be sure to make a mental note for next time I'm in. She went out of her way to point to the line behind me and say "See all these people, you're putting them all out" and glared at me. It took all of 90 seconds for that manager who was standing just 3 feet away at the front of the store watching the lines to come approve my exchange. See receipt for the even exchange. They owed me a virtual penny. I'm not sure why she displaced her anger onto me but I was polite and took ownership of my error thanking her for approving it and shaming me was her response. Reminds me of the quote "hate breeds hate, but kindness grows just as wild". If you can be anything, be kind.
