It was so exciting to visit a fish hatchery! This was located only 15 minutes from our hotel on Lake Quinault. They have a visitor center, a small house filled with information about the six different types of salmon and their spawning cycles. Inside the house there is also a video of The history of fish hatchery's, and their importance in the United States. When we visited The hatchery they had thousands of baby fish in their pools, they were in the second stage of life, they will remain there until next spring when they leave the hatchery and swim out into the Pacific ocean. We were allowed to walk around the fenced-in pools, it was very exciting to see the fish swimming around. We learned that there are six types of salmon, chinook, chum, pink, coho, steelhead and Sockeye. The hatchery was not very busy when we visited, and it was an awesome educational experience! Definitely visit if you are nearby. read more
