Most of the people in the library appeared to be homeless people escaping the heat. They were spread out throughout the library, mostly just sitting quietly and reading.

Secondly, while this is not a typical branch where you can go and browse a large selection of books/media, it is a great hub for making media reservations with the library system online and having them shipped to this branch for pickup. Thirdly, this library has flyers and information about community events and public health information and is valuable to our hyperlocal neighborhood! I was also able to pick up covid tests for our household here, and the librarians helped me to connect mine and my husband's library card accounts so we can pick up each other's library materials for the other!

Beautiful murals are placed on the wall outside so when you approach from the parking lot, you have a chance to admire their beauty. Inside the main lobby, it is the same. Handcrafted tiles from students in the Sunnyside Unified School District align the walls. Valencia Library makes it clear, this is a place for people of all ages. When walking further in, there is a variety of things to do. Copy machines are available for public use for a small fee, there is one on one services available. New (working) computers line rows for the public to use. On this day, almost every computer was occupied with children playing Minecraft, adults on the web, or people checking email. The library services go beyond checking out books, the environment here is warm and welcoming. When I looked around I also saw people reading books, discussing books, and plenty of staff available (and willing) to help. The staff was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. What a wonderful way to share the love of learning and reading with the Tucson community.

And i told them everybody is wearing sweaters and jackets. So they didn't answer my question but inferred No. Don't they wanna save the environment? And their response was the employees get hot in the employees-only room? Sorry but the library exists to serve the public, not to serve the employee. The customer always comes first. I'm not getting paid to be there, they are. I'm not at work, they are. Oh and definitely don't go in the afternoon/evening because that's when there's LOUD children there. When i was a child, if i was ever loud while in the library or even school library, i'd get reprimanded. This particular branch seems to not maintain a QUIET atmosphere. When i complained the employee's response was, "We're a small library...and this is as loud as it's gonna get." Btw, not only are the children loud but they cuss. When i was little i couldn't cuss around adults or i'd get reprimanded. They literally get so loud that you can hear them even while in a private room. So loud that you can hear them while wearing rubber-tipped earbuds from the other room. This is unacceptable. A library is supposed to be quiet, period. If you want your child to be loud, take it elsewhere. This is not your home. I've been coming to this branch for years, since before this particular employee was working there. Even before it got renovated it was quiet, despite the librarians having nice activities where they'd e.g. read to children, AND IT USED TO BE SMALLER! I've never had a problem with noise until i went to this particular branch recently. The employees i interracted with might as well have given me the finger. And i think one of them was the manager.

The selection of books IS limited but you can get books delivered to your library branch of choice by logging in to the library website using your library card. Winning! You know that running joke on Parks and Rec about the evil librarians? Well, as funny as that may be, not the case at Himmel. The librarians are super nice and helpful. On once occasion, I needed to put up flyers for a research study for my lab. The librarians were super helpful and super sweet-very fun to chat with. Love coming here!
