I filed many complaints... I spent winter without proper heat and summer without A/C, and at night it often didn't work at all. Despite this, I was still charged an extra $80+ a month for a service that was never properly provided. After moving out, I paid all my bills upfront, but they still added late fees out of nowhere and even charged me for bills from months earlier. On top of that, they took almost my entire deposit. It feels like no matter how responsible you are as a tenant, they'll find a way to take more money. I would not recommend renting here.

Although it was an adjustment, we found the space pretty comfortable for two empty nesters and our two cats. The apartments are large and very functional. The service from the management is fast, friendly and efficient. The only negative for us was a small kitchen and the train running behind our apartment. I think most of the people living in our building don't cook much, so the kitchen wouldn't be a drawback for many. We did get used to the train and sleep right through it. It seems like everyone has a dog, so if you are super allergic, that might be a consideration. We are moving to a townhome in a few weeks with a third bedroom and a larger kitchen, but if we could have those things at the Foundry, we'd probably stayed a little longer!

After spending more time here and enjoying everything this apartment community has to offer--as well as all of the wonderful businesses and community opportunities nearby--I decided to move here permanently this past February. The apartment building is new, beautiful, clean, and well staffed with friendly, knowledgeable people. It is in a fantastic location. There is a central courtyard that serves as a common gathering area, complete with ping-pong, outdoor grills, a fire pit, and many other amenities that make this feel more like a home than simply an apartment building. The surrounding neighborhood continues to improve, with no end in sight. Recently, Mayfly Market and the Bohemian Taproom opened in the beautifully restored Garden Theatre, which is directly adjacent to the apartment building. Both of these establishments are treasures to have just a few steps from the lobby. One of the very best things about the location, however, is that the apartment building sits directly across the street from Allegheny Commons Park. It is a beautiful park where you can relax or attend many of the festivals and events held throughout the year, including a wonderful farmers market every Friday from May through November. The management team is professional, accessible, and responsive to my requests, and they genuinely care about their residents. I couldn't be happier with my decision to make this my permanent home in the Pittsburgh area.

My boyfriend and I moved in 2 years ago. We were among the first tenants to move into the Morten House. We love our apartment - it is spacious, has a giant kitchen, a small hallway that separates the apartment from our entrance, plenty of storage. As a young woman who works weird hours - I often arrive home at 10-11pm - and who just generally loves to walk every where - I can't say I have ever felt unsafe. My boyfriend and I walk downtown, to PNC park, to Heinz Field, and to the river walk. We have two coffee shops in this cute, charming neighborhood. A pizza spot, a library, a taco place right across the street. A book store on the corner, and a small general store and brewery will soon be within STEPS of our apartment. There's a farmers market at the park every Friday during the summer. Events at the park across the street all summer. The National Aviary and Children's museum are a short walk away. I fell in love with the Mexican War Streets and the North Side. Of course, there may be a few issues - the gym is small and sometimes does not have wipes, it can be difficult to get a hold of management at times, and sometimes our stove stops responding (it's one of those annoying touch screen ones). There are cleaning people who come, but maybe a little less frequently than they used to. Occasionally there will be some issues with the parking garage, but I never really had a problem with street parking. Overall, I'm so happy I live here. I truly love this neighborhood and would recommend The Garden (specifically the Morten House, as I can't speak to anywhere else) to anyone looking to live in a truly unique part of the city!

The management office also feels that it isn't an invasion of privacy to schedule tours for prospective residents for the exact unit you want WHILE you are living there as soon as you mention you're moving out. So unprofessional. You get 24 hours notice before a tour. Why give notice at all if you're just going to show up anyway? I've never seen this done in other buildings I've lived in before. It makes the vibe more business-like than actually living in a community. All they care about is your money. I really do like Walnut Capital overall, but the Walnut on Highland property itself is overpriced and unprofessional in their policies and communication with residents.

It's also located to several closeby places that I frequent such as fast food restaurants, a Giant Eagle, etc. As for the apartments themselves, I was pretty happy! You don't pay for water, and the management staff there is pretty friendly and know me by name. They're always available for a quick chat. No problems with leaks, and any maintenance issues are addressed by the next day! They constantly are improving their facilities be it roofing, paving the roads, salting the roads, painting the walls, etc. It's not luxury, but it's very homey and a great place to stay. Not expensive at all for someone right out of college. The walls from the living room to the hall are a bit thin, so you can hear quite a bit in the living room, but once you go to the bedroom you hear nothing at all. I did encounter a rodent one time that had climbed through the vents to pop up under my stove crack, which scared the hell out of me. But Chris the property manager promptly got pest control and helped deal with it! Bugs and roaches are pretty much nonexistent, which was a nice surprise. The best thing that I appreciated however is that after 1 year of living there with a lease, you get a more flexible lease that allows you to give a 30 day notice to vacate after which you can leave after paying 1 more extra month of rent. This was extremely helpful to me as I will be moving to another city soon, and I was somewhat worried about it. All in all, it's clean, management knows what they're doing, and the employees at this apartment really work with you. I highly recommend living here be you a single young worker, a student, or a family!

The office staff is extremely nice and helpful. The apartments are move in ready, so I didn't have many maintenance issues but when I did, they were addressed immediately. I would highly recommend this place based on personnel, grounds, and location.
