TL;DR/The Short Version: Deli serving up loaded sandwiches…read morein Hintonburg. A bit pricey, but tasty. The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

We just came back from the Mecca of sandwiches at Old Tyme in Lafayette, LA. I thought there is no…read moreway anyone could possibly come close to the perfection of the Old Tyme Special. Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. Don't walk, run to this place. It will change your life for what you think about sandwiches.

I just discovered The Butchery. What a revelation!…read more The shop is clean and attractive, with a very long display of many dozens of cuts of meat, many marinated. I bought a marinated flank steak that was amazing on the BBQ tonight. They also carry some great sauces, including my favourite Rufus and Teague Blazing Hot sauce. You can buy frozen pies from The Big Apple, which are the best pies around. They have a burger shack inside....sadly I was too early. Some other time. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the boss a really good man. This was a great discovery and I will happily drive the 25 km to get there. Very highly recommended.

Don't come here hungry! Wow!…read moreThis popped up when I plugged in 'butcher' near me. 15 min away. My first visit was a Sat. So busy! And for good reason. I was blown away by all the meat, the prepared goods. Burger counter. Some seating. Freezer choices. Some dried goods, bread. I got away with Chorizo, some lean ground beef and some beautiful olive oil. Is this place cheap? No! But, I pay for quality without batting an eye. Especially foodie stuff. Next round was a Tuesday aft. Ahhh. Better. I could see everything, not so packed. It was just after a long weekend so some things were sold out but I grabbed more lean beef, a chicken parm portion, a beef Jamaican patty and a stuffed potato. All were good! The chicken portion from the fresh cabinet was $11.50! More than my lb of ground beef! But it was a filling piece and fed me x 2. I love this place.

The Short Version: Tasty sandwiches, at this European Deli,…read morebut tasted like something I could have made at home. They also sell imported grocery items from Europe. The Long Version: I was working off-site nearby and wanted to grab a quick lunch so popped into European Delicatessen for a sandwich. All their sandwiches were $8.85 plus tax, which came to an even $10. I initially wanted a roast beef sandwich, but they ran out of roast beef, so I got a ham sandwich. The bread is a plain Kaiser which was soft and fresh. I got cheese (I'm not sure what type of cheese it was, it had holes, but wasn't Swiss cheese, lol), lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. The lady making my sandwich asked what kind of condiment I wanted and pointed to the three types of mustard (regular, medium and hot Dijon). I chose the medium and before I could stop her she also added mayonnaise to my sandwich after adding the mustard. It wasn't an excessive amount, so I didn't say anything, lol. The deli meats are sliced to order. The amount was satisfactory. Not too generous, but not stingy. The lady making my sandwich was wearing one glove, but used both hands to make the sandwich :/ She was courteous and efficient though. The sandwich was tasty but I feel like it was something I could have made at home. 3.5 stars for the sandwich but rounding up since they sell grocery items that are harder to find elsewhere in the city. The deli sells a lot of imported foods, mostly from Eastern Europe, but also Central Europe. Prices were reasonable for imported goods. They are located in a strip mall. Lots of free parking.
