I stayed at Old Bank Hotel for 4 nights and ended up having all my breakfasts and a afternoon creme tea and a couple dinners at Quod. Loved it. Service was great, the menu is varied enough you can try some different things, and the wine/cocktail list is good as well. Def have a reservation for weekend nights as the place is bustling. The lamb chops are outstanding for dinner, as is the fish du jour. For breakfast you can't go wrong with the full English breakfast or the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Get a French Press of coffee, a bowl of fruit and the newspaper and take your time watching the bustle on High Street. Amazing location on High Street right across from Radcliffe Camera. Interior has old world feel to it, and there is some really interesting art work on walls, keeping the eclectic feeling of the hotel itself at heart. It's a bit expensive compared to other places near it, but gracious and solid experience. I'd go back for a nice sit down breakfast, lunch, dinner or afternoon tea even if I wasn't staying at the Old Bank. read more

A great place to eat on a visit to Oxford if you want a nice sit down lunch. Great bar, with a variety of custom G&Ts so if you have to wait for a table it's not so bad. A short wait is possible, because it is quite crowded, which is not surprising, because the food was delicious. Amongst the 5 of us, we had the tuna tartare, artichoke soup, spatchcock chicken with hot pepper sauce, the mushroom risotto, the sea bass and the tagliatelle. All received rave reviews. Did not look at the wine list so cannot help with that and also passed on dessert. Service was very efficient and, while spacious, the room had a warm and inviting ambiance. After a long morning tour, this was a real treat and I would most definitely come back. read more

A most comfortable and well maintained space designed within a historic building that also has a hotel. I had a dozen of the most exquisite oysters and a salad of greens mixed with lentils and more. Very tasty. Service was most attentive, prompt and friendly. They can handle large numbers of people. There's a bar within the space that has a good selection. Not enormous but ample. All staff is helpful and attentive. The only negative issue I have is with deserts. I had an apple tart which was flat, not flaky. My friend had a mousse with cherries. The chocolate seemed grainy and the cherries came directly from a can. But then, can one expect pastries in UK to resemble those of Paris or Berkeley? read more

I have been a customer of this restaurant when I am in Oxford, for the past 8 years. The food is always consistent and excellent. If you're studying at Oxford.... well, I guess you just HAVE to eat here :). I mean it got the attention of my friend and I, and "we didn't even go here!" So yeah, that's how it's going down. We were visiting my friend's cousin here and she treated us to eat here as a graduation gift. Lovely atmosphere with not too many students, but more so students and their parents, and other adults. I'm really here to rave about their pizza. I thought it was delicious, massive (as you see with my photo), and I love that we got a 3-for-1 deal. No complaints! But some leftover slices, for sure. We are visiting oxford for the day and decided to stop in for dinner. This was extremely disappointing. Our server was cold as soon as we got there and she never even said her name or greeted us. Just stood there and stared and waited for us to start ordering. She then recommended the handpicked crab appetizer after we asked for the favorite. It was inedible. Just so fishy and covered in mayo. Best thing we ate was the bread and we weren't even given plates so we had to hold them and juggle the butter. She would then disappear until our food came. The rabbit was cooked to death and basically inedible. If you are going to include rabbit on the menu please know how to prepare it. The fish cakes were dry and only good if drenched in tater sauce. The only good thing we ordered was the pasta and how can you mess that up. The drinks were also good but nothing to write home about. Definitely would not recommend this place and it has ended our day on a bad note. read more

This suits for a posh Sunday roast. It won't be as homey as a pub's Sunday roast, but the quality is excellent, the portion is larger than expected and the plating is lovely. The chef's suggestions (i.e. specials) are to be taken seriously. The day we dined, the special roast was beef with yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and steamed veg. The price of the chef's suggestions is slightly lower than its counterparts on the standard menu by perhaps a pound. Three of us ordered the roast, and I got the roast lamb and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. The chef's suggestion for pudding was panacotta with fresh raspberries and mint. Shared with friends, it was gone quickly. The atmosphere is open and airy, with dark wood tables and big windows. It's very photogenic. read more

This is a very large restaurant with an outdoor terrace as well. Despite its size, service was swift and we quickly received our drinks and first course. I wasn't blown away by the negroni and would probably stick to wine if I returned. My boyfriend tried a couple of the different ales, he didn't rate the amber ale but the dark ale was apparently good. Our starter of prawn and scallop gratin was really delicious - we shared it between two (starters are disproportionately expensive here) and both got plenty of both the meat and the nice creamy sauce. For main course we both split the bacon and spicy sausage pizzas, and both slightly preferred the latter topping although both were good. The pizza has a super thin, crisp base. All in all I would say this is likely a reliable choice in Oxford and one likely to please most diners given its somewhat eclectic menu. read more

This restaurant is really visible from high street, and it is huge on the inside. The atmosphere (candles, live piano music, etc) makes it seem a lot pricier than it actually is. The pizzas are flat but wide, and you can get half and half of different toppings. I had the lamb bhuna which was surprisingly good given that this place seemed to serve mostly western cuisine. It was a rainy day in Oxford, and we needed to get out of the cold and damp. It wasn't quite the homey pub we were looking for, but the food was great. This place serves an excellent Sunday roast. The lamb is better than the beef -- so soft and soaked in delicious juice. The kale was excellently cooked, and the veg was flavourful and tender. They get all of their beef from a few miles away, and the quality shows. We split the chocolate pot for dessert, which was tasty. I had some great gazpacho with crayfish, and some rabbit rillets (which could have had a tad more salt, but were tasty anyhow.) While it appears like a very upscale restaurant they were fully welcoming of my wife and I and our 8 month old. The pricing is a bit up there, but from what we saw this was one of the nicest restaurants in the area. My one regret is not capitalizing on their tea service. read more

The food is good, but not great, and it is very expensive. I've dined here twice, and both times there were disappointments at our table. A steak special one evening was extremely chewy and flavorless, despite being billed as "the most flavorful" cut of meat. One member of my party ordered a grouse special, and was extremely disappointed - the bird was fairly dry, extremely gamey, and was not flavorful. On the other hand, the insalata caprese is large, and excellent. The steak tartare with raw egg on top was also fantastic. The atmosphere is very upscale, trendy, and classy. Quod definitely aspires to be a "fine dining" restaurant, but the quality of the food isn't consistent enough to be up to par with the very high prices. read more

We recently stayed at The Old Bank and dined in The Quod for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The service is attentive, the atmosphere contemporary yet warm and the menu very "correct", as the French say. In addition, the food is well prepared and the breads are quite good. The offerings are classics with just enough new garnishes to make them seem less "grandma" and more fresh/today. As a fan of spice, my only suggestion would be to encourage the chef to be willing to have a heavier hand on the spicing of the international options (the couscous and vegetable tagine for example). If you have the chance, ask to sit on the private patio out back. The code to the wifi is provided to each guest upon seating - thank you. We will certainly be back. read more

I never really gave this restaurant much thought until trying to organise a 90th birthday party (not mine). This restaurant has an excellent atmosphere, and something for everyone from the menu. Age range of party was 13 to 90, and everyone thought their menu choice was fantastic. Italian-sh, but also Sunday Roasts etc. Seating a bit cramped, prices fair. Waitress AWESOME :-) Tip: Students; take your visiting parents hereas long as they are paying. They will be impressed. I love this place. The staff are really helpful and friendly. On arrival we were seated really quickly on a lovely table in the window. The waitress bought us some lovely fresh cooked bread and yummy olive oil to nibble on while we choose our main courses from the menu. One really good thing was that when we asked for water they asked if we wanted bottled or tap water no other restaurants seem to ever ask that as they just want to make as much money out of you as possible I can highly recommend the duck beautifully cooked with a light sauce and crunchy onions read more
