The service was attentive, but not overly so. I ordered quickly and the food was well timed. I had the fish and chips, which honestly had a bit too much batter for my taste, but the batter was so good, that didn't matter at all. The chips were perfect, and the peas were the perfect compliment. It is clear this is a local gathering spot. By the time I had finished, the bar area had filled with locals catching up and having a good time with each other. If you're touring the Cotswold's and in need of a perfect pub lunch, this place is it. Don't bother with trying to park or navigate the scaffolding of Chipping Norton. Head to the Chequers. We were not permitted to order any sides unless we ordered a main (which we did not want). I have never before experienced such a restriction.
