Donna was amazing she helped us find everything we wanted and more. She even made us tea as we browsed. I wound a few balls so I could get to work right away. I wish I lived closer so we could come and knit in the back room. The knitting retreat was a professionally run but relaxing event. The first thing we did was pick the colour of our yarn. We got hand dyed knit east yarn by Fleece Artist to use in knitting the Boneyard Shawl by Stephen West. Mona, from the St. John store, taught us shawl techniques. I loved her relaxed approach. We were able to knit and chat with everyone while she systematically worked the room. She caught my error only a row in so I was able to correct it and move on quickly. I felt that she was right there to help if I needed her but did not feel rushed or pressured. It was a lovely way to learn shawl knitting. Cricket Cove even brought lots if extra supplies for us to browse through. I needed this fibre retreat in the midst of such a winter. Thanks Cricket Cove. I cannot wait for Knit East in the fall!

The shop sits on the lower level of what felt like a depressed shopping mall that may have seen better days. Quiet and empty, the mall had an overall borderline creepy feeling, but once inside the shop, all was right. Cricket's Cove has an excellent selection of yarns, needles and patterns. They also have a fair amount of knitted items out for sale as well.

The woman running the shop told me a little bit about the artist (Boothbay Harbor, I think he's from) and how she bought a cobalt glass pair of earrings from his collection the previous year, different design). They're gorgeous when the light hits them. Highly recommend stopping in to look at the array of human creativity on display!

She had placed one on the floor to test roll it gently, as he was intending to buy it, when a store associate told him she shouldn't touch the toys because dogs come into the store. Then she continued on about how if that's what we want to do it's our kid but not to play with the toys. My husband apologized and was having our daughter put it back. I was shrugging the moment off and tried to continue to shop but then overheard the associate continue on to her coworker about how "they can't read" and "they don't want to tell their precious little one no" etc, etc. The tone was all very condescending and unnecessary when we had already complied and apologized. We had been in the shop only moments, were watching to make sure our kid didn't break anything, so no, we hadn't gotten around to reading the sign. I fetched my family and we left, which is disappointing because I had been looking forward to shopping here specifically. Items looked lovely, staff interaction left me uncomfortable.
