My kids love tacos, hamburgers, and spaghetti, so ground beef is a staple at our house. We started cooking up 2 lbs. of hamburger as we always do, but this time it stunk up the whole house! Smelled like rancid meat for days! I called Ashlynn Frenell immediately and asked what was up with that, and she said: "That's completely normal...our livestock are raised on a well-balanced grass and grain diet...they don't have any hormones or antibiotics. You're used to store-bought meat which has perfumes, colorings, and flavorings...that's why it smells and tastes different!" She wasn't wrong...it was HORRIBLE! After my family and I choked down a year's worth of meat (because we are frugal and can't really afford to throw money away), we were referred to another local farmer that raised his own beef as well. We just recently got another 1/4 Beef and HOLY COW...WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Not only was it significantly cheaper, but it's also some of the best meat I've ever tasted...that's coming from a "meat & potatoes" farm kid, which means something! You can shop at Frenell Livestock Company/Meat Market if you want, but I know my family and I will NEVER go back!!!

Every time we are in Iowa (1-2 times a year) we stop in mainly for 3 things: 1) cheddar cheese, 2) Elk or Bison sausage and 3) to check out and get pictures of the Elk and Bison roaming in their pins near the building. Probably some new additions to our "things we get from Quarry Creek Elk & Bison Company list" would be Little Buffalo Horns (chocolate covered cashews) and Elk Drops (chocolate covered caramels) which can be found right next to the registers. We see the same people each time we come. They are all very nice and welcoming. This is a place we will continue to visit for years to come. I urge you to stop in if you happen to be in the area.
