The store was well presented, featured a nice variety of fresh fruit and vegetables and being just three days before Christmas, the place was jumping yet organized and friendly. On this occasion, we were able to use the bathroom, as we've been doing for the last 15 to 20 years and purchase some snacks. My wife chose some apples and cheese that we shared in the car, as well as some candy. As we checked out, the cashier asked if we wanted to contribute to the local food bank, and we would not even have known had she not mentioned it. It was our pleasure to contribute. So, should you find yourself in Hawthorne Nevada, needing to use the restroom, the Safeway is a good bet to meet your needs. We never hesitate to go here and we'll be back.

We were in need of ice and (ahem) beer, so we pulled off the road and headed into town. We found the General Store almost by accident because it doesn't look like your average Safeway or Raley's with huge windows across the front. No, this is a STORE which barely had windows next to the front door! Maybe it's because they didn't want to waste valuable wall space where shelving could be placed instead of pesky windows. Now the amazing part. They've got just about anything you could want in a 'supermarket' in this store. The aisles are a bit narrow, but that's so they can put MORE of them IN there! Lots and lots of stuff. Just the spot for RV'ers to restock anything they're likely to need. Ice, beer, even top shelf liquor. The wine selection is somewhat lacking, but I think most miners don't give a HOOT about wine. Lots of different brands of beer though (because that's what I think miners DO care about). And the kicker? The prices are not bad at all. You'd expect to pay a lot more when out in the middle of gosh-darned nowhere (like you do in, oh, say Austin), but not HERE. I'm thinking maybe the mine subsidizes this in some way, because this is really NOWHERE. Beautiful scenery all around, and that's why we travel out like this, but it has to cost a fortune to truck all this stuff in. The town has a gas station and the usual bars too, but this store has to be what sustains the lives of all these people. And we RV'ers who also need the services. Also, be sure to pick up a copy of the "Valley View" newsletter. It's a bi-weekly newsletter that will give you an idea of what life is like in a town like Hadley. Interesting reading.

It's just they don't put them on the app. I wonder how many people skip stopping at Raleys because they think they don't have chips lol. We also bought some fruit, drinks, and stuff from the deli. If I hadn't taken a chance, we would've stopped at Family Dollar next-door and just got drinks and snacks and Raley's would've lost some business.. Aside from the sandwiches, they also sell local eggs, ready to cook meat from rib eyes, ground elk and/or beef, sausages, jerky etc. The sandwich itself was well thought through beginning with the grilled onions and melted Brie cheese- just delicious! I tend to love shopping at these local markets when visiting smaller towns in the Eastern Sierra because they typically have great local goods, fun merchandise, quality local charm and character, and lively local operators who are happy to see you there. We popped into this shop in search of water and some ice cream novelties, which we certainly found, but beyond that, it was pretty bare bones and basic. The shelves were also pretty sparse, and the selection a bit thin too. Usually you can find just about anything you need in one of these stores, but unfortunately I'd say that you'd need to visit here and Ken's to guarantee you'll find what you need and may even find yourself driving to the next town for certain things. The shop is good in an emergency moment, but could be much more.

A farmer from Sanger, CA was there with some sweet and delicious plums, nectarines, peaches, grapes and other fruits. I picked up some of those nectarines. They were so good! There were also vendors who made pastries, cookies, and pies. I was also intrigued by the vendors who make their own soaps, bath salts, vanilla extract, bamboo knotted grocery bags and cotton grocery bags. Got there late as folks were packing up, but just in time to get my food and enjoy what was left. If you get there early, you may catch local musicians, a larger crowd, and more sights and savory smells!

Got 3 of each chicken wing flavor from the deli - They were huge, I could not eat more than 5. It was also very messy, so I could not take any pictures of the wings themself, sorry. Starbucks = 5 stars - Free Ice. At times, the Starbucks in supermarkets charged for a cup of ice. Atmosphere - Consistent with the brand. With the exception of the GREAT service from Starbucks. Service - Good, both the deli person and cashier were good. Price - $10.14 for the wings - I thought that was pricey until I saw the size of each wing; worth it! Pre-made Turkey Wrap - Tasted pre-made and old. We should have gotten a fresh sandwich, but we were in a rush. I don't even know how much we paid for it. Owner Suggestion - Thanks for having a Safeway here, during our 7 hour drive from Las Vegas to Reno, we did not see many options for supermarkets.
