Awesome place to stop on a road trip. The bathrooms are spotless and the customer service is awesome.

We were on vacation and making our way from one huge metropolis (Kingston) to another (Belmont)…read more After filling our trailer with much needed water at the rest area in Carvers, we stumbled on this town called Hadley, which is obviously a 'company town' attached at the hip to the Round Mountain gold mine. We were in need of ice and (ahem) beer, so we pulled off the road and headed into town. We found the General Store almost by accident because it doesn't look like your average Safeway or Raley's with huge windows across the front. No, this is a STORE which barely had windows next to the front door! Maybe it's because they didn't want to waste valuable wall space where shelving could be placed instead of pesky windows. Now the amazing part. They've got just about anything you could want in a 'supermarket' in this store. The aisles are a bit narrow, but that's so they can put MORE of them IN there! Lots and lots of stuff. Just the spot for RV'ers to restock anything they're likely to need. Ice, beer, even top shelf liquor. The wine selection is somewhat lacking, but I think most miners don't give a HOOT about wine. Lots of different brands of beer though (because that's what I think miners DO care about). And the kicker? The prices are not bad at all. You'd expect to pay a lot more when out in the middle of gosh-darned nowhere (like you do in, oh, say Austin), but not HERE. I'm thinking maybe the mine subsidizes this in some way, because this is really NOWHERE. Beautiful scenery all around, and that's why we travel out like this, but it has to cost a fortune to truck all this stuff in. The town has a gas station and the usual bars too, but this store has to be what sustains the lives of all these people. And we RV'ers who also need the services. Also, be sure to pick up a copy of the "Valley View" newsletter. It's a bi-weekly newsletter that will give you an idea of what life is like in a town like Hadley. Interesting reading.

Once again, I pulled up the Raley's app and they have no chips ... that is correct. They do not have Lays potato chips, ruffles, Doritos... nothing listed in the app so we can check any sales or specials. I remembered that this happened last year and sure enough... they have lots of chips and they have sayles but it's just not on the app. It is strange. Family Dollar, right next-door does have an app, and they list Snacks and my wife wanted to go there, but I told her I'm pretty sure Raleys will have some good snacks. It's just they don't put them on the app. I wonder how many people skip stopping at Raleys because they think they don't have chips lol. We also bought some fruit, drinks, and stuff from the deli. If I hadn't taken a chance, we would've stopped at Family Dollar next-door and just got drinks and snacks and Raley's would've lost some business.. Again, as a year later, I suggest actually listing items you have in the store on the app so we can shop using the app .

We stopped in to grab mostly snacks and some yummy drinks. When you walk into Raley's and go the right, the aisle closest to the end has all these single package snacks. Me and my brother are both vegan and we scored in this aisle! I could not believe all the different types of foods that they had, and all were very healthy! I read a review that said they were expensive. I think everything is relative. If you are traveling through and need some great foods, I would drop into Raley's... oh and the service there is amazing!

Actually, this is an option for many menu items if you don't want fries. It saves you a couple of bucks and maybe a half-inch off the waistline. The 1/2 lb burger was well cooked, the bacon was tasty, and the lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions were crisp and fresh! I've visited several times over the seven years I've lived in the area and have always had a good experience. Make sure to try the pies if you have room for dessert... or maybe just have dessert instead? They completed a slight remodel a year and a half ago. Nothing major but the place looks nice and clean inside. The kitchen also received completely new appliances and a makeover. There's a small market attached if you need drinks or other sundries for the road. Gas pumps are outside and I think they got new ones recently as they appear to be an improvement over the old ones which were hard to read. Be careful as this is a remote out-of-the-way location so you'll find higher gas prices than elsewhere. Located at the intersections of Highways 6 and 120, Benton Station is owned by the Benton Paiute Tribe. Bishop is 35 miles south, about a half-hour by car. Tonopah, Nevada is 80 miles east, about an hour and 15 minutes drive. Hawthorne, Nevada is 84 miles north, an hour and 20 minutes. Mammoth Lakes via Highway 120 and Benton Crossing Road is 46 miles west, almost an hour's drive. The eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park (at the top of Tioga Pass via Highway 120) is 62 miles away, a little over an hour. If you're in the area and hunger is gnawing at your stomach stop by Benton Station for a bite and a little rest. They're open for breakfast and lunch only!
