I'm an old shoe dog from a long time ago when shoe stores were full-service. In those days, a sales clerk took your size and went into a stock room to bring out your selection. Been in a store like that in a while? Me, neither. Until today, when I stepped into the Cobbler's Closet. It was a trip in the Wayback Machine for me, to inhale the fragrance of real leather, from high-quality shoes that have real leather soles and honest-to-goodness stitching instead of glue. Florsheim! There's a name I haven't seen in a while, and there's an entire wall of 'em on display. I've never seen such a wide selection of Minnetonka shoes and moccasins, not even in Wisconsin Dells. You'll find hikers from Timberland, work shoes and work boots from Keen and Red Wing, and lots, lots more. A little more expensive than the discounters you're used to? Sure, after all, the best always is. You can't expect a Cadillac at Yugo prices and the same is true of shoes. Pay a little more up front and you'll be a lot happier for a long time. Take it from an old shoe dog - if you want the best in footwear and the best in service, take a trip to Shawano and visit the Cobbler's Closet.

Most shoe stores are self-serve and I decided I needed assistance in finding the right fit. Hunter was extremely helpful and spent a lot of time fitting and finding the right shoes for me. And recommended some brands I wasn't aware of. One of the pairs of Xelero shoes ending up being very uncomfortable and I returned that pair several days later. The Xelero was very comfortable and stable. However, one of the shoe's "tongues" was very uncomfortable. It probably would not affect most people, but I have had issues which affect my ability to walk. I returned the Xelero for a different style of the same brand that worked better for my needs. Josh spent a lot of time assisting me finding the right shoe and fit. I am very satisfied with the service and highly recommend The Heel shoe store for anyone, but especially for anyone who has foot, knee or hip issues.

This…read moreused to be a store where you could go in and get your gate looked at and your foot print analyzed to get the right shoe. We stopped in recently just for this purpose. We were met with hostility and unprofessional staff. We had our gates looked at for about two seconds and that was it. The process is no longer personal and staff acts as if they do not care to help. Staff is dressed in leggings which is absolutely not appropriate for the workplace. We will never be back.

It's unlike any Kohls or other modern department store. Wood floors, over 100 year old wood floors with character that have a vintage feel and an ever so faint creak from them. Neatly organized shelves and racks of clothes with a wide variety to choose from. They have a yarn department,'book department, men's, women's, shoes, gifts, and in the basement Toys! My lovely bride almost had to drag me from the book department as I was on a shopping spree. Then it was on to the men's shoe department that was well stocked and had knowledgeable staff. Most importantly, it's a traditional shoe department, that provides a customer with Service. Not rows of boxes, that you fumble through and serve yourself. Have a seat, the clerks comes to you and asks how can they help? They go in the back and return with boxes of shoes for you to try on. What a very patient and knowledgeable staff! I couldn't get a good fit on my first visit even after trying different sizes, my feet were swollen from a long car trip. I returned the following day and the fit perfectly, On the Yelp review it prompts: Amazing! What went well!; one choice is Value. Prices here are very fair, one could always chase the internet and beat a price unlike. There is value with a brick and motar business. Stock on hand, able to be tried on, friendly and knowledgeable staff and from my perspective that adds considerable value. They even offer a Frequent Shopper Program that I signed up for. It's not a card or computer program, a sheet of paper with your names, boxes to be handwritten in with your purchases and then a 10% reward. Schroeder's nailed it with Service, Selection and Value! Highly recommended and worth the trip.

They were pretty busy for a Saturday morning, so I had to wait a few minutes to be helped, although I was acknowledged right away and the sales associate said she'd help me in a minute. I came in with an idea of what shoes I wanted, and told her so. She took a look at the shoes I currently had and explained they were a different type than what I was looking for, at which point I explained those weren't working for me so I wanted to try something. As the store was busy, two of the sales associates 'tag teamed' working with me, which I didn't mind because both were friendly and I didn't have to keep repeating what I was looking for. They both listened as I explained what worked (and didn't) with my current shoes and what I was looking for in new shoes (I'm coming off a tibial stress fracture, so I need cushioning). I ended up getting the BRAND NEW Brooks Levitate, which they told me was first being offered that day (whoop whoop!). They were also understanding when I explained I was from Chicago and, if there was an issue with the shoes, I likely wouldn't be able to bring them back within the period for returns. They were nice enough to put a note in the system to extend that period until I was up next, as long as the shoes were still in good condition. Overall, they were incredibly helpful and offered good advice in picking out a shoe. I never felt rushed (even though they were busy) or pressured to pick the higher end shoe (I came to that conclusion on my own). Even though I don't live in the area, I'd definitely go back there if I had the chance.

This store is great if you're a new or experienced runner....or like me not a runner.  The sales are friendly, knowledgeable and even saw them handle multiple customers with no problem. The have all kinds of running accessories like socks, shirts, shorts, water bottles....whatever you need they have it. As I walked in, I was immediately greeted by a sales associate.  I told him what I needed, he then had me walk a little bit and stand on something that showed the curve in my foot so he could find the perfect shoe for me.   He brought out several options for me to try, and told me what I should be expecting in a good shoe.  That helped a lot when making my decision. I was there for about 15 minutes and I walked away with a new pair of shoes.  Now I did pay more than I usually would for shoes, but I know I got a good quality of shoes. I hope they will last me for a while.
