I live in Chicago, but was visiting family and decided to stop at Runaway shoes on the suggestion of my father. Cheaper sales tax for the win! They were pretty busy for a Saturday morning, so I had to wait a few minutes to be helped, although I was acknowledged right away and the sales associate said she'd help me in a minute. I came in with an idea of what shoes I wanted, and told her so. She took a look at the shoes I currently had and explained they were a different type than what I was looking for, at which point I explained those weren't working for me so I wanted to try something. As the store was busy, two of the sales associates 'tag teamed' working with me, which I didn't mind because both were friendly and I didn't have to keep repeating what I was looking for. They both listened as I explained what worked (and didn't) with my current shoes and what I was looking for in new shoes (I'm coming off a tibial stress fracture, so I need cushioning). I ended up getting the BRAND NEW Brooks Levitate, which they told me was first being offered that day (whoop whoop!). They were also understanding when I explained I was from Chicago and, if there was an issue with the shoes, I likely wouldn't be able to bring them back within the period for returns. They were nice enough to put a note in the system to extend that period until I was up next, as long as the shoes were still in good condition. Overall, they were incredibly helpful and offered good advice in picking out a shoe. I never felt rushed (even though they were busy) or pressured to pick the higher end shoe (I came to that conclusion on my own). So happy with this experience!  I needed a pair of good, comfortable shoes as I got a new job where I have to stand on my feet a lot.  As much as I love you Chuck Taylors, I need a lot more support. This store is great if you're a new or experienced runner....or like me not a runner.  The sales are friendly, knowledgeable and even saw them handle multiple customers with no problem. The have all kinds of running accessories like socks, shirts, shorts, water bottles....whatever you need they have it. As I walked in, I was immediately greeted by a sales associate.  I told him what I needed, he then had me walk a little bit and stand on something that showed the curve in my foot so he could find the perfect shoe for me.   He brought out several options for me to try, and told me what I should be expecting in a good shoe.  That helped a lot when making my decision. I was there for about 15 minutes and I walked away with a new pair of shoes.  Now I did pay more than I usually would for shoes, but I know I got a good quality of shoes. My wife and I recently moved away from the Green Bay area, but we miss Runaway Shoes dearly. It was the best running store I've been to. The manager, Colin, is outstanding, knowledgable, and super helpful. Even when his store is packed, he still finds a way to serve his customers with a smile. The guy will kill you with kindness, and it seems to permeate his staff. They have a great selection of all sorts of clothes, shoes, and other products, and if you're daring, check through the clearance bins. You can find high quality clothes from previous seasons in there for dirt cheap. This store is amazing. Seriously, go check them out. read more

I don't know what I love best about Runaway - The friendly and knowledgeable employees (and the fact that they are runners!), or the plethora of shoes and running products that make this store a runner's paradise. Having been a runner nearly 20 years, the running shoe industry as well as the method of purchasing product has changed immensely. But one thing has not - the importance of finding a shoe that is perfect for your budget and to get the most out of your miles. These are two things that I guarantee Runaway will ensure you get from your experience! In my experience at the store on numerous occasions, the crew at Runaway puts time and effort into helping you find a shoe that works best without pressuring you or steering you into and set course based on cost or product. They'll assess shoe type, size, and then what you're going to use it before as they recommend options and letting you try things out. Running shoes are pricey, and not to mention they change from model to model. So I don't know what more you can ask for than a place to physically try out the product with someone who can steer you in the right direction. Very good experience. The employee working was extremely friendly and helpful, and I never felt pressured into buying anything I didn't want. I came in with almost no knowledge of what to look for in a running shoe, and left much more educated and with a pair of shoes that I love. Try walking in here and not walk out with shoes. I can't remember the last time I didn't buy shoes online. They had me try on 3 pairs of shoes and found the most comfortable pair of sneakers I've ever had. Great selection and service. read more
