Growing up, I spent 20 years playing the violin and had teachers of all levels. Matthew is hands-down the most effective music teacher I've ever had. Though Alison is a performer and a teacher, I chose Alison Rizzuto because of her voice therapy background. I figured that her knowledge of vocal physiology would be an excellent resource to help me understand what was happening inside my body as I sang. And I was right, she knows a lot! Alison's background in classical, musical theater and operatic singing was starkly in contrast to my folky "conversational" style as she called it. But it was a benefit for me. I enjoyed the challenge of singing with proper technique that also helped me expand my range, control my breathing, project and build confidence that I was on the right track. Since singing requires no physical instrument (like a guitar) to buy and learn, we sometimes feel it's easy. And to a certain degree it is.
