We went to the Tunerbashh Edmonton Season Closer and left halfway through disappointed. I had called admin a few days prior to try and get info about handicap accessibility but they didn't return my call. I wasn't able to find any information on their web site. We decided to give it a try anyway. They do have quite a few handicap spots right at the gate which was good however it was a fair hike to the stands for the drag racing. The drifting and cars on display were way to far for my husband to be able to walk to with his cane so sadly we had to miss it ( that is what we were most interested it). The drag racing itself was mediocre with the same cars going over and over and really not much competition. Would have liked to see the same style/model of cars go head to head. Perhaps our expectations were to high for a small time type venue in Alberta. after 2 hours we got bored and didn't want to watch another 3 hours of the same thing waiting to see the burnout competition at the end. Perhaps putting it in the middle to give people a break would be good. Also the concessions were not beside the stands and too far for us to be able to walk. Wow magic of lights is the perfect Covid Christmas activity. I definitely was not the only person who thought this way as the line up was 2 hours long!! (2 hours from when you get into the front gates). We went yesterday Tuesday Dec 22. We drove from Edmonton out to Castrol and once we got to the turn off toward Castrol we waited 2 hours from the turnpike to the front gates. Once inside the front gates it was another 2 hour wait before we got to see the Magic of Lights display. Total of 4 hours waiting!!! Luckily I was prepared with snacks / drinks / presents for the kiddos! They were entertained the whole time amazingly! We did let them get unbuckled and hang out in the backseat and play once we got inside the gates. I was worried about bathroom facilities as it was a LONG wait but they do have port-a-potty's available. I would say they need more of these due to the amount of people driving through this year. This would be really my only downside of this event. (Other than the 4 hour wait.) When we did go use the facilities they were quite full (in the toilet) and not so clean (expected for a port-a-potty). Another suggestion I would make would be timed entry. This would really be helpful in cutting down the crazy wait times. I mean I know it's a popular event because it's Christmas and it's Covid but I even saw some cars being turned away (they didn't pre-purchase tickets online). So worth it to re-vamp this with a timed entry option. The actual light displays itself was totally worth it and so beautiful! We sang Christmas songs, the staff were all super friendly and in good spirits. It was a really wonderful display. My kids even wanted to drive through again! (Sorry no...) hahaha! It is definitely a good memory for years to come and we would do it again (earlier in the event, not so close to Christmas). read more

Castrol Raceway just keeps getting better and better! I just checked out their opening night of Magic of Lights last week! And boy oh boy did we have a great time! First off, my little guy thought it was SO COOL MOM that we got to drive on the race track (that Lightning McQueen drives on) for the light display. Loved the different themes throughout the track. Faves for us included the penguins, igloos, Santa on a motorcycle doing a flip off a track! And of course the exit tunnel of lights which totally had us humming the Star Wars theme song. I'd only ever been to Castrol Raceway before for the Rocky Mountain Nationals. So exciting to see them hosting a winter event. And proceeds go to Christmas charities - this year it's Santa's Anonymous and Black Gold Health Foundation. From their website for 2017: The goal is to get 70,000 vehicles go through Castrol over the next seven weeks. Rogers says they've planned some some out of car experiences on weekends for families and horse power sleigh rides where the sleigh will be pulled by trucks. This comes at $20 per person and there is no need to purchase a vehicle pass. "It's a perfect way of doing a corporate party and we have an indoor space for snacks after," she said. The event is family-friendly and affordable, Rogers says, as admission is per vehicle. The cost is $25 for a car, $50 for a limo and $100 for a bus. On Tuesdays a new wrapped toy or a $10 donation at the door gives guests the opportunity to go through twice. For those who want to get ahead of the line, a $20 dash pass can be added to the vehicle pass. I recently got to attend Castrol in the summer for the Tim Albert memorial World Cup and it was great!! Summer at Castrol is completely different. There is a free parking zone and a $10 park zone closer to the entrance. Inside is super family friendly with a children's playground to boot. I saw kids walking around with balloon art and race flags, so it's great to see that they keep your kiddies in mind! There's also carnival like kiosks to get your food fix and washrooms are easy to locate. I didn't realise there were 2 different race tracks and I even got to learn about the types of racing from the staff there. It can get really loud there with all those revving engines and vehicles zooming by, so hearing protection is a must! If you forget your own, they do have some available for purchase and they are the nice quality type with the soft compressing foam. read more

Been to Castrol Raceway a few times now and it's a total blast. I'm not really a motor sports fan but this place changed my mind. Those dragsters are cool. It's right next to the airport making it easy to get to. This place has everything you need for a day watching the racing, beer stalls on every corner, fast food and fast cars. They recently hosted Magic Of Lights for the first time and this was a magical spectacle! For one, you drive in the actual track and enjoy the light displays as you go. It's super festive and a lot of fun. There is an option to go on the horse-power hayride or drive yourself. The horse power is nice if the temperature is right. Driving is great thought and you can tune your radio to the speakers outside, Christmas music 24-7. read more

It was fun to figure out the 12 days of Christmas ("What's 3 "chickens" and an Eiffel Tower got to do with anything....oh! 3 French hens!") We'd been to the raceway a few times in the summer to watch the sprint cars and had a blast every time! Ps. Mini donuts at the concession in the summer are delicious and they pair well with a cold beer. The Magic of Lights was an amazing and beautiful display! The light displays are set up around the paved racetrack and you can either drive your own vehicle through or hop on the horse powered hayride if the weather is right! The display is very well done and definitely gets you into the Christmas spirit! You can tune to the corresponding radio station and enjoy some holiday tunes on your ride through! The raceway is always such a good time. I went for the first time this year when the Rocky Mountain National was on. High octane action indeed! I've recently been again to check out the Magic of Lights event - totally worth checking out especially if you've got kids. The Raceway itself has plenty of facilities, food, washrooms, beer, everything you could need whilst checking out some epic cars launching themselves down the quarter (and half mile). Always a good time and I'll be sure to head back next summer to see some more races. I'm definitely hooked. read more

I have not been to any other race tracks, so I have no basis for comparison. However, I can see there are so many issues with this facility, and I've been here dozens of times. Safety. I do not know what the safety standards are for a facility like this, but me just being an average joe, I've noticed many unsafe things that whether it was required or not, I would take care of. First, regarding street legals, I have seen a photographer on the track, not behind a barricade, taking photos. At the very least, she should have been wearing a safety vest. All drivers are required to wear helmets and no shorts allowed, yet motorcyclists can go down the track and insanely high speeds with no protective gear (other than a helmet and jeans). Second, when you drive in, there is always someone standing in the middle of the road, to direct you which way to go. Again, this person should be wearing a reflective safety vest, and is not. Castrol Raceway is open way past sunset, so again a blatant disregard for safety. Third, the bleachers at the new road course. What a disgusting hazard. They should not even be accessible by the public. It is sitting on uneven ground and wobbles when you walk on it. There is more than enough room for a child to fall through. And if you want proof, just google the accident they had last year when someone riding an ATV WITHOUT A HELMET was airlifted to hospital in critical condition after a crash during drag racing. I believe it was a staff member. Again, blatant disregard for safety. Yes, helmets are not legally required on ATVs, but this is a race facility, with people going high speeds. You would think basic safety would be implemented here. Well I guess it is... very basic safety and nothing more. And I've expressed my safety concerns with this facility before and they've never been addressed. I do enjoy Friday night street legals, and will continue to go, because there is no where else to go. read more

Zoom zoom! Magic of the Lights event held at Castrol Raceway was an awesome event! ''Twas a chilly evening but they certainly had lots of surprises to keep us warm- the giant fire was superb and just in case we didn't get warm on the outside the beverages were there to warm us up on the inside with some spiked egg nog, champagne, hot chocolate and coffee. One of our highlights was definitely the s'mores stations! Who doesn't love toasting a giant marshmallow and then adding a little chocolate to be squished between some graham crackers?! But the array of additions to make your smore even more heavenly weren't in short supply - whoever thought of putting out caramels, mint patties, and of course chocolates you are my favourite. Now the lights show was Incredible! We had some trucks pulling hay wagons with bales of hay and blankets. The light displays were so well done and it was REALLY COOL to be able to be on the Raceway! We've been to Castrol for some other racing events and it's really awesome to be able to visit a Raceway so close to Edmonton and the racing world people I have have all been super friendly. Looking forward to hearing and checking out more events that they have down the road! read more

Castrol Raceway is really using their facility to its advantage in the winter as they are hosting Magic of Lights. We went on a horse-drawn (no horses though!) sleighride behind a truck to see the magical lights and characters. There are dragons, seals playing hockey and even a whole nativity scene. We also took a ride along the track via our own vehicle, which was much of a warmer experience. You definitely have to go slow though to be careful, as well as take in all of the lights. The most impressive part is the end where you drive through a tunnel of lights! There is a bit of a vehicle back-up in the area as I am sure that everyone is trying to get the best photo. ;) Definitely a must see this winter! read more

We got invited to the launch of the Magic of Lights Christmas display that's on now at Castrol tonight and really enjoyed our first Christmas event of the season. I had seen a few articles here and there and I knew it is partially benefitting Santa's Anonymous so I was already excited to see it. My kids were dazzled by the displays and it was only a 16 min drive from Millwoods at 5pm. The decorations are very high quality and well thought-out. It's also pretty cool to be cruising your mini van down a race track if I'm being honest. It takes 10-15 to get through with no traffic, but I imagine this will be a big hit closer to the holidays and some nights will get quite busy. Definitely a new tradition for this family! read more

We went to Castrol Raceway for an even called Magic of Lights. Raceway in Leduc and easy to find on the map. It created a 2 km parade of statuesque /displays of lights all related to the Christmas theme. Tickets 25$ per car and you could donate gifts. Music played on Radio 92.5 added to the ambience. Stay in your car, and take a small ride through Christmas Lane! WE got to go to the opening night of this event where everyone braved the weather and took in a hayride to capture the moment. Fun family event that we are still encouraging all family and friends to see. Would recommend that it was worth the drive out. read more

Seriously impressed with the display of lights that Castrol Raceway has put together this holiday season!! Our family went to see it on opening night and I am so glad we did because it means we have time to go back again!! To see that many displays and lights through the eyes of my children was a great way to bring the holiday spirit to the surface. Once you turn into the Raceway it is pretty straight forward....literally . You see a sign with prices for various size vehicles which are all very reasonable (considering I have room for 8 it is a great deal). We loved all the different types of people and places that were represented and the last covered set was by far the most impressive display I have seen since Fremont Street. Grab your kids, friends, family or all three and check it out!! A few snacks and some hot chocolate could make for a new holiday tradition. read more

It has been YEARS since I have made my way out to the track for a night of fun. I've missed it. This was a special event featuring the Blueline Racing Team. Street Legal drag racing vs the police on one side and track racing on the other side. Tickets were half price for this weekend's event. Tickets are usually $20 per spectator. The Friday night Street Legal event is always $10 (see comment below) You have the choice of your usual carnival food. Taco in a bag - $7. They have adult beverages available as well. I believe they were also $7. There is a lounge where you can watch the drag racing if you get chilled. Bring bug spray and a blanket for after dark! Flush toilets are available in the central food service area. The racing season goes until early October. It's a bit of a pricey night out, but so is a movie! I can't wait to go back! read more

Absolute Annihilation Night at Castrol Raceway is a crazy loud and fun night out for kids and adults alike! It usually takes place over Father's Day and Labour Day weekends (although check the website for this year's schedule). I don't follow Nascar, drag racing, or have much interest in Castrol's other racing events, but this is different. There are school buses racing! Ambulances racing! BMX bike tricks! Dropping cars from big cranes! Jet cars! And my personal favourite, mattress racing!! What is mattress racing? Well, I'm glad you asked! In people's own beat up cars, there is a driver and a passenger, each with their window open. A mattress lays on the roof of the car, and both driver and passenger have to hold onto one side of the mattress to prevent it from flying away... while they're racing against others around the track! (I know, right? Who comes up with this stuff!?) Kids LOVE this night, and there are tons of them out here! There is quite a bit of stadium seating on bleacher style seats, nothing fancy. Some people bring seat cushions or fold out seats that give them a bit of a back rest. There are also typical overpriced carney-style concessions there if you get hungry. Tickets are a tad overpriced at but definitely affordable for a fun night out $25 for adults, $15 for youth 6-15 and seniors, and free for kids below 5. Bring earplugs! read more

Castrol (Formerly known as Capital Raceway) has been out near the airport for as long as I can remember. This place is exceptionally popular and reknown. We went here for Annihilation Night on June 20 2016, and loved every minute of it. What a great lineup of events happening. Cars dropping from cranes, motocross jumps, bus races, ambulance, races, offroad time trials, and the different car races; holding a mattress on the roof of the car, while racing around the oval, dragging a tire around, and trying to rip it off the other cars, having a tire on the hood of the car, and racing until it falls off. (the race with the mattresses was definitely the best, especially when the drivers would just plow them over when the had fallen off the cars). Anyways.... The only complaint I would have are the seats (the grandstand is getting rather antiquated) and the sound system. Holy moly, it's loud and crackly, and I wish there was music playing during the event. But all in all, the Annihilation Night was great. I am tempted to go on a Friday evening for street legals. Knowing me, I'd want to race my car, but to check it out would be fun! read more

The snow is almost gone and there are only 62 days until opening night at the Oval At Castrol! I have always like oval racing but grew up watching racing on pavement. The experience of seeing oval racing on dirt was an eye opener for me. Just that much more exciting. There is something for everyone at Castrol with a drag strip, road course and of course the Dirt Oval. If you get a chance head out to Castrol and take in a Friday or Saturday night show.
