Dr Raul Padilla was my doctor. I saw him twice for psychiatric help, via online only. First initial appointment was okay, went over a lot of medical history and he tried to prescripe me respiradone (ive never taken before). I am pregnant. My OB said this is not safe within the first trimester. He was also 10 minutes late. He was about this late again for the second appointment; I was in the waiting room waiting for him and sent in a text asking when he would be joining as he was late last time too. He jumped on the call and immediately told me he got my text and was RUDE and gave me a very bad attitude for even saying anything. I am already in a fragile state of mind, hence why i even reached out for help. But the way he spoke to me was disrespectful and my feelings of him being late were treated to be invalid. I dont recommend someone who actually does not care about the patient. read more

Dr. Padilla is by far the best psychiatrist I've been to, and I love that he's always in a cheery mood. It really sets the tone well for the appointment. He cares about your general well being, discusses your symptoms and thoroughly answers any questions you may have about anything you could think of. He makes you feel comfortable asking and the way he answers and helps really makes you realize he's on your team. He goes above what others have done for me in the past, he asks for your input and answers questions and concerns about possible side effects when starting a new medication. He even explained a bit about how some rare symptoms get on the list of a medication by explaining how the trials and legality works when new meds are being brought onto the market. I found every one of our sessions to be very helpful. He got me to feeling my best I'd felt in my adult life. I'd still be seeing him if I hadn't moved out of the country. He's honest, hard working, genuine and really cares for people's overall well being. He even got a very expensive drug fully covered by my insurance even though the monthly price tag is over $1k. I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone looking for a new psychiatrist and he would most definitely be awesome for anyone that's never had one before. read more

Dr.Padilla is straightforward. He knows his meds. He cares about his patients and genuinely takes the time to develop a Provider/Patient rapport. It took me a long time to trust anyone. He develops a plan and involves the patient, step by step through it. When I have questions, he takes the time and is thorough in his reasoning and education. After months of trying to find a psychiatric practitioner that was taking clients and would take my insurance, I was directed to the Psychology Today website where I found Radiant Path. I called and talked to a receptionist. She took my insurance ID number and ran it, and I was relieved to hear her say I would have no copay. She was also able to get me a telehealth visit to see Dr. Padilla inside of a week. I remember thinking that was an awfully quick turnaround these days for someone who has been at this as long as Dr. Padilla, but I was grateful nonetheless. My appointment with Dr. Padilla went by in a blur. It consisted mostly of him asking about my health history, with him running down health conditions at breakneck speed and telling me to interrupt him if I had a condition that came up. I could barely process the speed at which he was reeling these off. I felt extremely rushed and stressed, and I wondered why on earth he didn't have his patients fill out paperwork regarding health history before the appointment. When Dr. Padilla found out I have sleep issues, he prescribed some medication that was supposed to help with sleep. We barely got into my mental health complaints. This was frustrating to me, as I had a sleep study scheduled for shortly after that and was seeing him to hopefully address mental health, not sleep, issues. I understand his stance that good mental health can't be achieved if there are underlying physical issues, and although when I make an appointment with a psychiatrist, I do expect to cover mental health concerns, I am not even going to take issue with that part of the visit. But the appointment was not a good experience for me, and I didn't intend to see Dr. Padilla again. I was glad at least it hadn't costed me anything. Wrong! Not long after the appointment, I got a summary of benefits from my insurance saying I would owe the full $293 for the visit. Turns out he was out of network, and the claim was also being denied due to the fact that he gave no mental health diagnosis! On his Psychology Today profile, Dr. Padilla states, "...together, we spend significant time on education and explanation so that you understand the recommendations provided and you are fully comfortable with the treatment plan which I always provide in writing for your reference." So I wrote to ask if I could see the notes regarding treatment, wondering what exactly he had sent to my insurance. (Note that no notes or summary had yet been uploaded to my online portal account with Radiant Path.) He answered back that he was not sure what I was talking about, and then sent me a generic list of all the medications he ever prescribes and their starting doses. I then wrote him that my insurance had denied my claim after his receptionist had told me I would have no copay, and that my insurance recommended he appeal the claim and provide a diagnosis of some sort. It seems that he did appeal but did not prevail, as I was ultimately billed by him for the $293. This really hurt coming out of my pocket for a service I was told would be covered, and which was mostly useless to me. Yes, it is my responsibility to verify whether a provider is in-network, so legally I owe it, and that's why I paid. I won't be that trusting again. But what on earth was his receptionist looking at when she RAN my insurance ID number and told me I had a $0 copay? That is highly suspect. Also, I think it's ludicrous to refer to a generic list that includes any medication he might possibly ever prescribe as "a treatment plan in writing for your reference." At best it was a bad experience, mostly going over lists of health ailments at lightning speed for almost $300 an hour, only to end up talking about my sleep issues with a psychiatrist. (Sidebar to that--although the meds he prescribed for sleep might definitely help the mental state of someone who is dealing with fragmented sleep due to a mental condition, I was subsequently diagnosed with sleep apnea! There is no way medication can open your airway at night, so it seems irresponsible to me that he wouldn't recommend a sleep study, especially to someone who reports snoring, before prescribing medication for sleep, if he is so into addressing problems at their root.) At worst, it was some kind of racket to get people's initial visit fee, which is substantially higher than follow-up visits. I don't say that lightly, but what else is one supposed to think when a member of the staff "looks up" one's insurance and flat out lies about the copay amount? That can only be explained by either gross incompetence or willful dishonesty. Thankfully I finally found a provider through the local hospital, and the experience has been infinitely better. I recommend steering well clear of this guy and his staff. He provided nothing but more hardship for me at a time I really needed help rather than wasted time and unexpected financial burdens. read more

Dr. Padilla is the first doctor in over a decade to help treat my psychiatric issues and trauma in a way that is both helpful and validating. I can see the change in my daily life already from having a Doctor who listens to my issues and does not minimize my fears, who acknowledges my past experiences instead of gaslighting me for seeking medications to help. He is extremely thoughtful, and goes above and beyond to address and treat situational causes as they fluctuate in my daily life.
