What has happened to this place? We returned to this 'once great' restaurant to be very disappointed with the service and some of the food dishes. On arrival we were ushered into the restaurant without a pleasant greeting to a tiny table in the middle of the room. We started with a Salted Caramel Espresso Martini. Very well made and perfect to start of our meal. We ordered char-grilled South African style Lamb Sosates on a skewers, served with sour cream & chilli. These were delicious and were exactly how I remembered them! Next came our main dish of Cafe Americain 'Tajine De Poulet' - a Moroccan tajine of chicken, orange and honey with apricots. This was also delicious served with couscous and rice. Now to the most expensive dish on the menu, the Mozambiquan Tiger Prawns Piri Piri. What a disappointment! The tiniest prawns that were chargrilled and tossed of the plate with chips and a few strands of greenery. For the cost this dish was terrible. To finish our dinner we're ordered the Chocolate Cake (Torte de Negro). This was moist and very rich served with edible rose petals and ice cream. The food was good except for the prawns. What spoilt the night was the lack of service given and the old Radio Cairo atmosphere is gone. read more

Sat within viewing distance of The Orpheum this restaurant is in prime position. I went here during an off period from meat and in doing so I missed out on the best part of the experience I think!. If you're into game and a committed carnivore this place would be brilliant but I went there and paid over $20 for a bean curry - a small portion of bean curry at that. I might have felt better if I was being sponsored to eat it with some of the bill going to charity! Don't get me wrong the restaurant is quirky and exotic; dragging influences from Africa, Asia and the Caribbean which is a truly refreshing change in the land of the ubiquitous Thai but if you're veggie or fish and chicken only this could be a tricky place to dine. A large bar centres the room and there's lots happening in the restaurant and the curious décor to keep bean eaters entertained though. Double dessert might be the way forward. read more

We seem to specialise in last-minute-fit-us-in kind of meals. Once again, we had to be our by 8.15 allowing us around 75 minutes for a meal. As I said to the staff, you bring it we wil eat it in time. This place is eclectic, noisy, busy and fun. Staff are funky, food is North African and all sorts, and it is generally a blast. Been here a few times, but this was by far the best I have eaten there. Popcorn shrimp was stunning, as was the moroccan lamb, and the vege curry, in fact all the dishes were great, although we did have a bit of a fine cut to eat in the time as they were a bit slow with the main, but they were pumping at the time. And when we left a queue of about 10 folks waiting for tables. Don't go, you'll hate it. Far too crowded, anyways. :-) read more

This place is one of my favourites. If I did not live locally I would travel to come here for dinner...even if i lived all the way Katoomba! The food is unlike anything else I have ever tried, a mix of Jamaican, African, South American and and something else again. The entrees are amazing, the mains are amazing and if you have room, the desserts are, you guessed it, amazing. It's always consistent too. Whether I order from the the regular menu or the specials board, the food is always a treat and I always end up eating too much. The drinks menu is enormous and interestingly offers a raspberry flavoured beer, which sounds diabolical but is anything but. If I could only eat at one place for the rest of my life it would be Radio Cairo, this place really is that good. I don't know what I was expecting with this place, but it was fantastic. It is a mix of African, Asian and Caribbean food. This place is crowded and noisy and full of life. I think the decor is a bit tacky, but it doesn't matter with food like this. We had three different types of curry and rah was as good as the last. The service was surprisingly fast for the amount of people in the restaurant. Overall it was a great night. But just a warning - book. Don't just rock up you won't get a table. read more

Local restaurant in the Cremorne area you can tell is a favourite with the locals. Great place to have dinner if you're heading to the movies at the Hayden Orpheum. They have lovely staff who greet you even though you know the place is pumping and they are super busy. The restaurant has 2 sittings which can be a little tricky because you could end up eating too early or too late depending on your appetite. First sitting is dinner time however you have to vacate by 8.15pm and 2nd seating is 8.30pm - suppose they cater for the movie-goers. We had a light dinner as we had the 2nd seating (didn't want to get kicked out!). The special cruncy school of prawns were the favourite dish of the night. The cucumber salad and octopus curry were also nice however the prawns were the standout. Had a glass of red with dinner which went down very nicely. Would be back to try other things on the menu which looked very interesting! Especially when you see them on other tables! lol. read more

Love these eclectic, unique and rare restaurants. We walked in and was lucky to get a seat as they were fully booked up. The menu was a unique fusion between Sri Lankan, African and Caribbean all the dishes were so enticing and I just wanted to order everything! Service was friendly and informal - they had some great suggestions for those unfamiliar with the menu and put some thought into a matching wine. we ordered the large rack of ribs and side of daal it all came to the table in a reasonable time and was pleasing to the eyes and absolutely delicious. It's a great convenient location close to the Orpheum Cinemas. We'll be back. read more

I was a bit worried when I saw the menu initially as the food inspiration seem to come from so many different countries but don't be it is amazingly good. Been here a number of times. The food is always great. The flavours really pack a punch and no matter that I order, it's always awesome. On my last visit, I didn't receive the usual 5 star hospitality I had become accustomed to, how ever I think the wait staff was new, so we'll let that one slide. I do feel the price of meals and drinks is a little higher than it should be, but the food IS good, and you always leave absolutely stuffed full of goodness. Grab the Afro fries. We just moved her from the States and have started exploring the restaurants near our home in Mosman and this was one of recommendations that we received the most. So tonight I told my husband to meet us here on his way back from the city. I walked in with the children and knew right away that it might be a problem because it immediately struck me as a more swanky couple, dinner for adults place but my husband already ordered a bottle of wine so decided to go with it. We ordered: Garlic Bread with Salsa: Average Popcorn Shrimp with an apricot chutney: Excellent sweet and spicy combo Lamb Shank: Amazingly tender with a beautifully done sauce Tangine of Chicken with Oranges and spices: PLAIN Peri Peri Shrimp with a Garlic Aioli Sauce: This was grilled to perfection (not easy to do with shrimp). Side of Cous Cous with currants and chickpeas: Very nice side and went well with everything we ordered. So definitely would NOT return with the kids as we struggled to find something they could eat but would love to return with just the Hubby to explore more items on the menu. read more

If you enjoy a loud, energetic atmosphere with great food, this place is for you! Although a little on the expensive side, the quality of the food is worth every penny! My recommendations are the Jamaican ribs, Crocodile wings, Lamb and anything on the dessert menu. This place is very busy, so anticipate a wait, or book in advance. read more

This place is one of my favourites in the C/NB/M environs. It says Radio Cairo on the door, but don't expect Arabic aka Mediterranean food. It's more an eclectic collection of mostly African/Caribe fare. Deep heavy sauces that really wake you up. Delicious but not for the timid ie. big flavours. Radio Cairo is one of the stars of the Lower North Shore eating scene. Extremely unique and diverse menu and atmosphere. Tables throughout but also a few seats at the bar which is always a nice option. I've heard it has a reputation as a great 'first date' spot and having been on a first date here, I agree. It's menu states it's an 'expression of cultural diversity' and that is true. From the layman's perspective it's a mix of Indian, Caribbean, Cajun, Portuguese and African. I usually stick to the seafood as I'm a fan (perch and prawn mole, Mozambique piri piri prawns, black pepper prawns), but have seen the octopus, steak slippers and ribs and they look fantastic. It is important to get a side as the portions aren't gigantic, but a few types of rice/cous cous and bread are available in addition to the many and unique starters. I have tried the Bongo Bread and Jamaican fries. Great wine and beer selection (plenty of beers) and plenty of desserts to try. Although, my whole group stuck to the warm chocolate cake. Booked a table for two for my birthday days in advance,- for 6 p.m -guaranteed a window seat, only to have that prioritised by a group booking, and offered a seat at the back near a noisy bar. Not good enough, and when I expressed my disappointment t telling them it was my birthday and was assured of a window seat, was treated rudely by staff. We decided to not bother, and got up and left. Never seen anything like it. After a decade of living locally and deciding to treat ourselves, I won't ever bother with this place, having left almost in tears for a potential night ruined, (My 11 year old daughter had been so excited at going to a 'fancy restaurant' doing my makeup well in advance, we were dressed to the hilt.) We instead jumped in a cab over to Kirribilli and I was met by lovely punjabi hospitality of Grace of India, where we spent $120 for a lovely banquet with window seat, treated like royalty. Radio Cairo, what a joke, doubtful I will ever set foot in this 'establishment' ever again. Has left a very bad impression on me, and my daughter, and I will tell my friends and anyone else who cares to read reviews. read more
