Local restaurant in the Cremorne area you can tell is a favourite with the locals. Great place to have dinner if you're heading to the movies at the Hayden Orpheum. They have lovely staff who greet you even though you know the place is pumping and they are super busy. The restaurant has 2 sittings which can be a little tricky because you could end up eating too early or too late depending on your appetite. First sitting is dinner time however you have to vacate by 8.15pm and 2nd seating is 8.30pm - suppose they cater for the movie-goers. We had a light dinner as we had the 2nd seating (didn't want to get kicked out!). The special cruncy school of prawns were the favourite dish of the night. The cucumber salad and octopus curry were also nice however the prawns were the standout. Had a glass of red with dinner which went down very nicely. Would be back to try other things on the menu which looked very interesting! Especially when you see them on other tables! lol.

The food is unlike anything else I have ever tried, a mix of Jamaican, African, South American and and something else again.

You may notice it can be quiet- but don't let that deter you- you will not be disappointed with the food! Another great quality of the food is that the dishes are not overly oily as some Indian can be at other restaurants. So you leave feeling good and not yuck. Love it and will continue to go!

Taste of India is a bummer. Sorry to have to say that, as this place has been in operation for a…read morevery long time by one family - something I enormously admire. But my experience here was sadly very disappointing on several levels. First, we placed our order on line which required a pre-payment (which my wife did). When I got to the restaurant at the time that online order indicated, they hadn't even started preparation yet, so I had to wait around for 30m or so. Then not having communicated with my wife on the payment, they asked me to pay, which I did, not realizing that it had been a prepay. Got the food home, order was complete, but the portions were really small. But the price was not! I wouldn't mind if I thought the food was killer good, but it just wasn't. I used to live in Delhi, and have eaten Indian food all over the world and TOI isn't too good. It's not bad, but not that special... and given the price... yikes. Then to add fuel to the fire, a month or so later, my wife happened to notice that we had paid twice for TOI (we hadn't talked about it of course when coming home with the food). Accidents happen, so no worries, right? She called the restaurant, spoke to the wife (owner), the same who had I had paid when I went to pick up the food. This woman gave her the total run around... denying it had happened, refused to give an email (and in fact denied they had one - really, in today's day and age no email?) and wanted my wife to come physically to the restaurant with the receipts to prove the double pay. What happened to the customer is always right? Now I know how TOI stays in business for so long - once in a while customers get double charged and give up fighting when the restaurant makes it such a hassle to get our money back. Never never going back here again and vigorously recommend my friends to likewise find somewhere else to go for Indian.

Delicious delicious Indian Food with fun folks!…read more Ambiance - 4.5 stars. Very clean and nice, but a little cramped. Lighting is bright and refreshing, so you can see your food and your guests clearly. The noise level is perfect for dinner conversation. Service - 5 stars. It's nice to see the owner/chef and if wife often appear serving the dishes and talking with guests directly. Meera is a sweet lady who gives excellent advice on what to try if you're looking to be a bit adventurous and stray from the absolutely fantastic butter chicken and garlic naan staples (just add more, don't neglect these two stars). Food - 4.8 stars. Hands down one of the best Indian Restaurants I've been to. .2 stars off because the lamb was ever so slightly overcooked, but honestly the chicken and everything else was perfectly creamy, spicy, delicious, yummy, and just basically wonderful. Must haves include the garlic naan, the butter chicken, and if you like chai, their chai tea as a dessert is aromatic and delicate. Drink - 4 stars. Not a large selection of drinks, but definitely a solid 4 stars simply because their chai tea is that good. Recommendations - Any of their chicken dishes, they all shine. Garlic naan. Haven't tried the other naan, but the garlic is just so good. Chai Tea, because it is very spot on. Come in a small party of no more than four people total ~ I wouldn't recommend the place for larger groups than that. Make reservations, this place is justifiably busy most days. Takeaway is stellar, don't worry about getting a lower quality dish because you ordered it takeaway.

The menu has a good variety, though the dishes felt more comforting than standout. A solid option if you're nearby, but not necessarily a place you'd go out of your way for. Food: The curries had good flavor and spice levels, but were a little oil-heavy for my preference. Portions were fair, and the dishes came out fairly quickly. Some items stood out more than others, but overall the food was enjoyable without being particularly memorable. Service: Service was efficient despite the busy crowd. Staff were polite and managed the small space well, though at peak hours it can feel a bit rushed because of how packed the restaurant gets. Ambience: The restaurant has a traditional Indian theme with old Maharaja portraits and classic décor elements throughout. The space is on the smaller side, and the décor can feel a bit overcrowded, making it slightly cramped during busy times. Still, it has a lively atmosphere that fits the tourist-heavy Circular Quay area.

It's run by the guys behind Nilgiri cooking schools so you know it's legit, and this ain't your anglicised rogan josh slinger, oh no, this is coastal Indian with exotic influences the likes of which you've probably never seen, I certainly hadn't. We ate: - TELLICHERRY FISH BIRYANI: star anise, Tellicherry pepper, biryani mix, basmati rice and fresh fish 'dum cooked' - AADU ULLARTHU: slow cooked goat with ground 'masala' of, fennel, cassia and poppy seeds - BRINJAL AVIYAL: stuffed baby eggplant in seasoned yoghurt with mustard and curryleaf 'baghaar' - GOBHI KEMPE BEZULE: batter fried cauliflower, black mustard, tempered yoghurt Everything was spectacular, but the goat, good lord, the goat was a show-stopper, closely followed by the biryani and the buttery naans. Nevertheless the prospect of good southern Indian kept us at the table. The menu is small but interesting. Started with pappadums and dips - awesome yoghurt dip. Possibly the best I have had. Pepper Chicken entree was good, but to my palate very salty - tamarind paste I guess. Sadly, my goat curry was very tough with gristle and inedible chunks. The Saag Paneer was ok but nothing special. All in all, did mot meet expectations.
