Too bad I can't give a score of minus five…read more I had a cardiac event last Spring, and was referred to see Dr. Lokhande at Fayetteville Heart Center after I got discharged by the doctors at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. I tried to make the appointment with that doctor and he did not have any appointments until October. I was told he only saw patients one day a week. A five month wait to see the cardiologist is ridiculous. I had three appointments with a different cardiologist, Dr. Divyang Patel, for follow up for that same cardiac event and not once did I see the Dr. Patel. I was seen by a PA or a nurse. They seemed knowledgeable, but they are not cardiologists. I had three tests ordered by those providers, one at was done at Fayetteville Heart Center, one at CFV Hospital and one at Womack Army Medical Center. When the tests were done at either Fayetteville Heart Center or at the hospital, a follow up appointment was scheduled for one month after the test. I went to the follow up appointment for the test done in the office, I was told the tests weren't read by a doctor yet. After that visit, I knew I was not going to be returning to Fayetteville Heart Center for care. When I was checking out the young woman at the checkout desk asked if I wanted to make a follow up appointment for six months and I said no. Later when I checked My Chart to see if the results of test results were done. I saw that she had scheduled an appointment for me anyway. It took three months for the results of the test done in the hospital to be placed in my health record. I had much better care at WAMC for the appointments I had there. I'm glad they had space available for me. They figured out what was causing that particular issue and it was resolved. I found another cardiologist to go to, and when I contacted Fayetteville Heart Center to see what I needed to do to authorize my records to be sent over to the new cardiologist office I spoke to three people. I got three different answers.

She had a curve of 31 degrees diagnosed by a local pediatric orthopedic doctor. The doctor told us that there were no cures and nothing was shown to improve the scoliosis. He told her to go home and study in school and help mom around the house. I could not believe there was no hope. I am a mom. We do our research. According to my research there are tons of options. One was chiropractic. Dr. Walker met us and consulted for free. The only thing he offered was some relief from pain and possibly that it would not get worse. Three weeks into treatment with Dr. Walker, I took my daughter to UNC. We had a new set of x-rays and exam. When the doctor brought the films in for us to see, he was beaming from ear to ear. His typical doctor reserve was gone. He showed us her new films. I could immediately see a difference. (I had noticed a difference in how my daughter was standing but thought it was sincerely wishful thinking.) The physician stated that the new images showed that her curve had improved 11 degrees. She was siting at 20 degrees curve! He said to her, "your life is open to you." There is no medical foundation for this kind of improvement. Scoliosis left on it's own usually gets worse! For those who might wonder if it had to do with positioning or that the calculations were wrong, I will tell you that side by side you can see the difference. And, at this appointment my daughter gained 1/2 inch of height. No, she didn't necessarily grow, but her curve improved and she gained height. Here is what I know. Dr. Walker's office is very professional. He was willing to treat my daughter with a vision and hope with us that he could make a difference. He made no promises that he could reverse her condition. But cared enough to try to help. But, who can explain this change? We are sticking with Dr. Walker through this journey. We are so grateful for his compassion and caring.
