The sales associate was fantastic. She read us perfectly, let us browse, and only stepped in when it made sense. Ended up buying a beautiful custom gold ring with a stunning quartz crystal and gold veining running through it, plus matching diamonds on the sides--my birthstone. My fiancée also got a gorgeous matching quartz pendant with diamonds. Both pieces are absolutely beautiful and we love them. Highly recommend this place. Great staff, beautiful work, zero pressure. This was by far the best store we encountered in Ketchikan, and quite frankly the best store we found during our entire visit to Alaska where our cruise visited several towns in Alaska. If you start your cruise on Ketchikan, do your souvenir shopping here, nothing compares in other locations and you'll be disappointed that you waited. Just when we thought the day was done, the cruise was over, and we could put our wallets away... we found this gem of gems in Ketchikan. This shop was one of the highlights of our trip to Alaska. I am so glad we went in because their selection is great, their service is wonderful, and their treasures are... well, treasures! My hubby and I bought a small totem poll to bring back home with us. We also bought matching mammoth bone bracelets. We had no idea that was a thing -- mammoth bone/molar! We love showing everybody our bracelets because they are an amazing talking point about our trip to Alaska. Please shop here! Shop local in Ketchikan -- all of the shops at the front of the cruise ship port are owned by the cruise companies themselves. Rain Barrel is a store that sells knives, sculptures and rents out golf carts with plastic doors that fit 4 adults. Everything for sale is locally themed and centers around wildlife, eskimos, Native Americans and Alaska. The golf carts are $40 an hour. We didn't rent one so can't speak to what they are like. read more

Cute little shop with lots of Alaskan goodies. Some authentic some not, just need to read the stamps on the bottom of the items. Not hard to do. Their prices are not outrageous and seemed to be competitive when it came to their authentic Alaskan souvenirs. Our favorite thing about this shop that caught our eye were the little electric cars. All I can say is FUN, FUN, FUN!! You really can't beat $40 for an hour of fun tooling around town in it. The gentleman was very informative, gave us a map with clear directions and told us exactly where to go and what we would see. He even gave us his personal cell phone number and told us if we had any problems or got lost to call him directly. My family of 4 had a blast! We laughed and had more fun doing this than some of the pricier excursions we had done on our cruise! We will definitely stop here again if we're ever in Ketchikan. Went on an Alaskan cruise and stopped in Ketchikan for the day. We found this neat little boutique type store that also rents golf carts. We rented one for an hour, which was plenty of time to cruise all around the area they would allow you to go. The cart was a newer cart and had zippered doors, which was nice because there was a light rain. The man helping us with the cart seemed very nervous about the carts. He gave very specific directions about how to operate them and where to go. He was so overly cautious, it made me a little nervous renting it. Either way, it was a great experience and we had a blast sight seeing the area. read more

Great DIY tour of Ketchikan. Rented one of their carts on a cloudy day and went geo-caching around the town. You do have to stay on the marked roads but it's not hard. They do tell you and explain everything and both brothers were very nice. Not sure what's up with the bad review here. They explained what happened and it seems that they were in the right here. Just follow the rules and it's great! $40 for an hour and well worth it since the cruise tours are outrageous! Loved the DIY cart tour and beautiful store. read more

Each year that we come to Alaska my husband adds to his knife collection and we always buy at this store. The owner is warm and friendly and spends alot of time helping us. After searching Anchorage, Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan you truly won't find better knives or more quality pieces. Our cruise ship stopped at the adorable town of Ketchikan. This gift shop had friendly service (Wendy) and a nice selection of local arts and crafts, at very reasonable prices. The items that I had shipped to Orlando, Florida arrived promptly and were carefully packed, without any damage. I'll be ordering more gifts from Rain Barrel, for sure. read more

I came into Ketchikan on a Princess cruise and did an excursion then looked about town. I found the Rain Barrel had an excellent choice of ULU knives and Jesus was most helpful and patient with me as I picked out a couple of the knives. At the register, Wendy also was very nice and helpful with me having the knives sent by mail to Texas. The knives arrived a couple of days after my return. We arrived in Ketchikan on a cruise ship and rented a small street approved golf cart to tour the city of Ketchikan from Rain Barrell. The price was very reasonable. We had an awesome time. We could easily park this little cart anytime we saw something while touring the city. It's battery powered and had plenty of power to move us around. We followed the salmon ladder, caught the totem pole museum, followed along the harbor and managed to even get in some shopping. A great way to see the city and sights. read more

We recently were in Ketchikan on our June cruise with Disney and went to the Rain Barrel. both the gentleman and the lady there, I believe the owners, were very polite and pleasant. Bought 2 great pocket knives and they were the B. Merry authentic knives that said Alaskan made on the blades. both Mammoth ivory and bone. They even shipped them home to me so I did not have to do customs. My mom bought several pieces of jewelry. can not wait to go back because they will get my business. spent almost an hour in that store. read more

RENT THE ELECTRIC CARTS! For $40 an hour, this is the best deal in town and incredibly fun! Ketchikan is small, and the owners give you a simple map to show which roads to take. We even went through the McDonald's drive-thru and then ate our lunch while watching bush planes take off. The cart seats four people, and you have the freedom to go where (and when) you want. Rain Barrel also has great authentic gifts made by Alaskans, and the staff is incredibly cool. The store is located next to the lumberjack show! read more

Found this shop to be very nice. Plenty of wonderful items to purchase. They focus on local artists and certainly work hard to represent them well. They have something for everyone. I liked the organized and clean look of the shop. I looked throughout my Alaskan trip for hand made Alaskan made knifes. I collect all sorts of knives and wanted one or two Alaskan artist knives for the collection. I purchased two knives from the Rain Barrel. Both were represented as Alaskan made. When I got home I realized that one of them was a Chinese manufactured knife. The BOX was Alaskan but the knife itself was not. The other was definitely an Alaskan made knife. I paid much more for the Alaskan collectible knife than the Chinese knife but neither was inexpensive. My advice when shopping here for Alaskan made artifacts is to LOOK CLOSELY at the item and look UNDER the price tags, too. You can also negotiate with the shop for a better price. The bottom line is that I believe this shop tries very hard to offer something special to its customers. They also have to sell something that is price competitive with other vendors. (The reality is that Alaskan made items are going to cost a lot more than most tourists want to pay.) read more

We had a short layover in Ketchikan and visited The Rain Barrel. It is a cute shop with unique native art and jewelry that would make meaningful gifts or mementos. Then we saw the golf carts for rent and decided to try them. What a fun time! We zipped around town (the carts can't go up hills or on roads with 55mph speeds, so we didn't leave town) and managed to see all the sites in the short time we had. The carts cost $40/hour and seat 4 people. I would definitely recommend them, especially for tired and foot sore travelers. read more

Beautiful store with friendly staff and a variety of items. However, when I arrived home I found that the items I bought for my nephews had "Made China" printed on the wood. Two of the gifts had the China logo completely covered by the price sticker! I also bought a $30 knife: its container/box was made in the USA, but the knife itself had "China" etched into the back. If you're looking for items made in Alaska, I suggest you perform a complete inspection (check the back and under the price sticker) BEFORE you get to the register! Their less expensive merchandise on June 5, 2014 was not 100% local. read more
