A Sunday at church should feel like a family, not a franchise. Rain City Church has this in their DNA!

I've been part of this church community for the past three years and have appreciated many aspects…read moreof it: warm people, thoughtful teaching, and a focus on relationships. However, I recently learned that the church holds non-affirming views regarding LGBTQ+ identities and relationships. This was not made clear on the website or in any public-facing materials, which made the discovery especially painful. I witnessed others be hurt by what feels like a bait-and-switch, entering a space that seems welcoming only to later find out they are not fully accepted. Transparency matters and clarity is kindness. While churches are entitled to their theological positions, I believe it is important, out of respect for those seeking a safe and welcoming spiritual home, to clearly communicate those beliefs upfront. That way, people can make informed decisions about whether this is a place where they will be fully accepted and supported. This experience has been disappointing but a great learning opportunity. The pastors did make an effort to talk to me and followed up with some sermons about the matter which I have linked below. Personally, it felt like they were more concerned about avoiding the "homophobic" label than about owning the real harm religion has caused LGBTQ+ folks but that's neither here or there; take a listen and consider the theology for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93qb9GjVFzA and a sermon made a few weeks after https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_09mZrx447s

I have enjoyed getting to know and explore more of Kalos Church and its leadership throughout 2020…read moreafter moving back to Seattle from Texas. I can see its earnest desire to do their best and lead the church with integrity through a challenging year. I've been inspired and impressed with their courage to tackle difficult subjects and to be honest when the answers are hard to come by. It's clear that they have a clear calling from God to his people and to the Eastside in particular. I would encourage anyone looking for a fresh expression of growing in their faith to explore Kalos online and/or in person as they begin meeting in person starting in January 2021.

Westminster is a scripture based, friendly, non-denominational church group. It's a fairly large…read morechurch, but in many ways it has a 'small-church' feel. Some of my favorite things about Westminster are: - Sermons usually contain a lot of application that leads from scripture to how we can practically strengthen our relationship with Christ. A recent sermon series went through the whole book of Joshua, for example, but didn't just stick to the history; along the way addressed the 'giants' in our lives (doubt, fear, past sin, etc), and showed a scriptural framework in which to start confronting them. - Spiritual growth is rightly treated as a process that keeps going throughout our lives. Both individual growth in Christ, and corporate growth as a church, are emphasized. Nor is this lip-service only; I have seen Westminster grow greatly as a local expression of the body of Christ over the years. - Westminster is perhaps the most inter-generational church I have gone to. This is not just 'all-ages' attending, but that there is interaction between the generations in classes, volunteering, etc. There are grow-groups and classes where people can either fellowship with their own age/life-stage, study a topic of mutual interest, or discuss a sermon - but these groups are not isolated from the rest of the church body. - There is genuine fellowship, often around study or service, vs. just self-entertainment. - It is very easy to find a place to serve!

I actually never been to this church but I'm planning on finding a biblical church. Lol I read some…read moreof the reviews and cracking up in that one person who gave a bad review and said the service was boring and that they miss Joel olsteen church. Well that tells me this church is definitely worth my time cause if a Joel olsteen fan doesn't like this church then they r doing something right. News flash Joel olsteen is a false teacher. Fyi. It's call prosperity gospel. You might want to do some exegetical study on scriptures and you'll find out why that is 100% anti-gospel
